Manchester United fans top the table for bad behaviour as Premier League arrests confirmed

Daily Mirror04-05-2025
The figures for arrests during the Premier League across the last two seasons have been released - and no stadium has seen more arrests than Manchester United's Old Trafford
Premier League giants Manchester United are finally back on top of the league - the league for bad behaviour!
The club's old Trafford ground saw more arrests for crowd trouble than any other Premier League club. United accounts for 12 per cent of all arrests at the 20 Premier League grounds for alcohol-related offences, Class A drug offences, violent disorder offences and arrests for possessing flares or throwing them and for throwing missiles.

There were 75 arrests at Manchester United 's Old Trafford ground for all offences during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons compared to just seven at Brentford - the lowest in the league.

The arrest rate at United - who have the highest average crowd in the league - is more than double the league average of 31 per ground over the two seasons. Just last month (April) Manchester United fan Alfie Holt, 20, was arrested and charged at Old Trafford after slapping Manchester City player Jack Grealish. He has since been banned from the ground.
There was a mass brawl in the Old Trafford stands in January (2025) when United beat Rangers in the Europa League and in March last year (2023) there was more brawling in during the Europa League tie with Spanish club Real Betis.
The club's fans have had little to cheer about since its heyday under Sir Alex Ferguson when it won 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions League titles during his 26-year reign.
Successive managers since his retirement in 2013 including David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Erik ten Haag and current boss Ruben Amorim have failed to return success to the club on the pitch.
Even when they were riding high the club courted controversy when star player Eric Cantona pleaded guilty to assaulting a Crystal Palace fan in 1995 with a Kung Fu kick and a volley of punches after being sent off.

West Ham has the second worst record for trouble with 60 arrests followed by Manchester City in third place on 59 arrests, Arsenal fourth on 47 and Newcastle United fifth on 46.
Home Office figures for arrests for the two seasons were analysed by the betting tips subscription service TipMan Tips. Spokesman Fraser Bricknell said: 'These figures show that criminal behaviour is a prevalent issue across all the Premier League clubs.

'They highlight the need for a police presence at football matches. The fear is however that many more people are getting away with criminal acts such as drug posession, carrying flares and throwing missiles at stadiums.'
Chelsea has the sixth worst record on 38 arrests followed by Everton in seventh place on 36, Spurs eighth on 31, Nottingham Forest ninth on 29 and Liverpool tenth on 28.

Leicester City came eleventh on 27 followed by Crystal Palace in twelfth place on 26 arrests, Aston Villa thirteenth on 23, Southampton fourteenth on 20 and Wolves fifteenth on 18.
Brighton came sixteenth on 16 arrests with Fulham seventeenth on 13, Ipswich eighteenth on 12, Bournemouth nineteenth on 10 and Brentford bottom of the table with just seven arrests - the lowest in the league.

Total number of arrests at Premier League grounds by club during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons for alcohol, pyrotechnic, missile, Class A drug, violence and missile-related offences:

Manchester City - 59
Arsenal - 47
Newcastle United - 46

Chelsea - 38
Everton - 36
Tottenham Hotspur - 31

Nottingham Forest - 29
Liverpool - 28
Leicester City - 27

Pubs, supermarkets and bookies expecting huge boost when Lionesses play Euro final

Millions are expected to tune in to the must-watch clash between England and Spain, whether it be from home, pubs, beer gardens or in front of big screens Pubs, bookies and supermarkets are gearing up for a bumper weekend as the nation gets ready to roar on the Lionesses in the Euros final. Punters will be drinking until the wee hours after pubs received special permission to stay open as late as 1am to celebrate the occasion. ‌ And those planning to watch it at home have already begun stocking up - as supermarket giants expect a huge boost in sales. Asda has forecasted 1.3 million sales of bags of crisps and 300,000 pizzas. ‌ Meanwhile Tesco expects to sell three million cans of beer and cider, over 3.5 million bottles of wine, 450,000 bottles of champagne or sparkling wine, and 70,000 pizzas across the weekend. But despite the opposition, the supermarket believes that Spanish brews such as San Miguel, Cruzcampo, and Estrella are likely to be the beer of choice. ‌ Spanish lager is now by far the most popular beer bought in the UK, with volume growth at Tesco last year up by more than 15% versus the year before. And the bookies are also predicting a surge, as the Barmy Army back their beloved Lionesses to go all the way. Betting shop Coral expects this Sunday's Women's European Championship final to be to see a record-breaking number of fans having a flutter. Coral's John Hill said: 'Millions of pounds will be bet on the women's Euros final with British bookmakers, and the majority will be on the Lionesses to lift the trophy. For the first time in this tournament, England will start a match as the underdogs, but that tag might just suit them." William Hill added that 66% of bets taken in the Women's Euros have backed England. And after the government gave pubs a special dispensation to stay open late, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper wished the Lionesses good luck ahead of the final. She said: 'The Lionesses have shown throughout this summer why they are true national stars. They have shown unbelievable grit and determination and are an inspiration to us all. 'Watching football in the local pub is a great British tradition and by extending licensing hours, we will hopefully be able to celebrate late into the evening. I want to wish the best of luck to Sarina Wiegman and the England squad, who we hope will be able to bring it home once again and continue on as champions of Europe.'

Marcus Rashford, 27, 'is BACK with ex-fiancee' Lucia, 26, two years after split - as she 'joins him in Barcelona to help him settle' after Man United exit

Marcus Rashford's summer continues to go from strength to strength after his reported reunion with his former fiancee two years after their split. The former Manchester United forward completed a season-long loan move to Barcelona this week, joining the Catalan club after breathing new life into his career on loan at Aston Villa last season. There had been doubt over his on-field future after Villa opted against signing him permanently and he was made part of Manchester United's 'Bomb Squad', but Barcelona swooped and Rashford didn't look back. Now, his a boost in his personal life is said to have followed his positive career change, with The Sun reporting that he is back with childhood sweetheart Lucia, 26. The outlet reports that Rashford, 27, asked Lucia to help him settle in Spain, providing a calming influence he felt he needed. The England footballer got engaged in May 2022 but the two went their separate ways a matter of months later It is reported that Lucia joined Rashford in Barcelona, taking the forward's photo and then checking his outfit before he posed beside a traditional red phone box for his announcement video. In the video, Rashford could be seen emerging, saying: 'Hello? Barca? For sure, I'm coming.' In June 2023, a source said that Rashford and Lucia felt 'the relationship ran its course', with the pair remaining 'very close friends'. It came as the then-Manchester United player, then 25, was since been spotted partying with a number of girls on a night out in Miami, Florida, and was seen returning with one of the group to his hotel at 5am in pictures obtained by The Sun. The sportsman jetted out to the Sunshine State this week and is said to have enjoyed the company of a number of bikini-clad women by the pool. A source told MailOnline of the split: 'Marcus and Lucia haven't been together for a number of months. It's nothing complicated; the relationship ran its course and they remain very close friends, and have a lot of mutual respect for one another.' 'Marcus is laser-focused on the next phase of his football career and is putting all of his focus in to that. He is about to come back to the UK after a successful trip coaching kids in Miami, and heads to England's training camp this week.' Rashford proposed on a postseason getaway in California after had been dating since the age of 15 when they were pupils at Ashton on Mersey school in Greater Manchester. Marcus had been planning the proposal for weeks and popped the question to Lucia at a lavish villa after they shared a romantic meal at celebrity seafood restaurant Catch LA, a source told The Sun. 'They celebrated afterwards with a group of close friends — including his United teammate Jesse Lingard,' the source said. Marcus shared news of the engagement on Instagram, posting an image of the pair embracing as they stood atop a bed of white roses in front of a heart-shaped archway. Another source said: 'All involved are thrilled at the recent news of the engagement,' and spoke of Lucia's influence on the Premier League star, who has received plaudits for his charitable work off the field but has struggled to perform on it since having shoulder surgery. 'Lucia has been a big part of Marcus' life... offering stability, a sense of belonging and assurance that can be rare to find,' the source told The Sun. The high school sweethearts had been together for eight years when difficulties associated with the Covid pandemic triggered a split. But the pair confirmed they had reunited in January 2022, just months before they got engaged, and their relationship is now reportedly back on track. Rashford fell out of favour at United after being criticised by current manager Ruben Amorim On the field, Rashford was banished from United by manager Ruben Amorim after the England star's work rate was called into question. He did not play for United again and joined Villa on loan, who opted to not make his move permanent and send him back to Manchester. Barcelona have the option to make his move permanent next summer for a fee in the region of £26millon.

‘Rat in the camp' may have tipped off shooter who executed gangsters Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr

Insiders said gang bosses are certain someone trusted tipped off the gunman 'INSIDER TIP' 'Rat in the camp' may have tipped off shooter who executed gangsters Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A LATE change of plans in the hours before Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jnr were killed has raised suspicions of a 'rat in the camp' who helped orchestrate their murders. A masked assassin shot dead the Lyons clan chiefs after they watched the Champions League Final in Monaghan's bar, Fuengirola on May 31. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 The pair were gunned down after watching the Champions League Final in Fuengirola on May 31 2 The attack happened inside Monaghans Bar in the Costa Del Sol We previously told how there were fears among the Lyons crew a traitor had leaked inside info to the shooter. Insiders said gang bosses are certain someone trusted tipped off the gunman just hours before the Mafia-style hit at a pub packed with holidaymakers in Fuengirola, Spain. Sources revealed the hunt was on to 'find who betrayed them to the guys who killed them.' And now former detective Gerry Gallagher has given his take on the potential dynamics of the calculated assassination plot. He says: 'There are several possible scenarios there. 'Logic dictates that if your name is above a bar and there's a long-anticipated sporting event playing on the television, there's a very good chance that it will draw a crowd. 'The other scenario is possibly that one or both males had been placed under surveillance, and the perpetrator was aware of where they would be and that they would be in a vulnerable situation. 'There's another possibility that the person who carried out the murders had received inside information that they would be there and exploited that.' We told how Spanish police believe the killing was a targeted gangland hit linked to the decades-long conflict between the Daniels and Lyons mobs. According to Spanish police, the assassin escaped by running across train tracks and through a tunnel to avoid CCTV cameras. Execution of gangsters Ross Monaghan & Eddie Lyons Jnr in Spain WAS linked to Scots turf war, senior cops claim Investigators are now pursuing multiple lines of enquiry, including whether there was involvement of individuals connected to the Daniels crew. The alleged hitman accused of killing the pair won't face an extradition hearing until November - five months after his arrest. Michael Riley, 44, is charged with the murders of the underworld figures at Monaghan's Bar in Fuengirola, Costa del Sol, on May 31. Authorities in Spain want him sent there to face criminal proceedings. Riley, of Huyton, Liverpool, was arrested by Merseyside police on June 13 under an international arrest warrant issued by the Spanish authorities. His extradition hearing was due to take place on October 9 at Westminster Magistrates Court, but it will now be heard on November 20.
