HOOD Unveils Micro Futures for BTC, SOL, XRP: Riding on Crypto Demand?

Yahoo7 hours ago

Robinhood Markets HOOD is expanding its crypto footprint with the launch of micro futures for Bitcoin (BTC), Solana (SOL) and XRP. Designed for retail traders, these smaller contracts lower the barrier to entry, requiring less capital and offering flexible exposure to volatile digital assets.By allowing directional bets and hedging with minimal margin, Robinhood is positioning itself as a user-friendly gateway to crypto derivatives. The move follows growing demand and builds on its recent acquisition of Bitstamp and pending buyout of WonderFi, strengthening its crypto ecosystem. With 25.9 million funded accounts, Robinhood is well-positioned to capitalize on the rising interest in altcoin trading. In May, the company's crypto notional volume soared 36% month over month and 65% year over year to $11.7 billion. This latest move builds on HOOD's broader push into futures trading, which began in October 2024, with traditional assets like crude oil and the S&P 500. The platform's entry into digital asset derivatives accelerated earlier this year through a strategic partnership with CME Group CME, granting Robinhood users mobile-first access to some of the most liquid futures products available.CME Group's May launch of XRP futures attracted more than $500 million in monthly notional volume, underscoring rising institutional appetite for crypto derivatives. Meanwhile, CME Group's existing Solana futures had already laid a solid foundation for expanding into altcoin-based contracts. As micro futures open up access to a broader investor base, Robinhood is likely to see increased transaction volumes, supporting its broader push into cryptocurrencies while making futures trading more mainstream.

In May, CEO Rick Wurster told Reuters that regulatory signals appear increasingly supportive, paving the way for larger financial institutions to scale their crypto offerings. In April, Schwab announced plans to roll out spot cryptocurrency trading within the next year. Schwab already offers access to spot Bitcoin ETFs, which began trading in 2024, signaling its intent to build a more comprehensive crypto trading platform for its clients.

Bitcoin Carried Crypto Markets in 2025's First Half as Altcoins Crumbled. What's Next?

On the surface, the crypto market barely moved in the first half of 2025. Despite all the tantrum about tariffs, impending recession, war, and heightened expectations of crypto friendly policies and a digital asset strategic reserve with Donald Trump's return to the White House, the total market capitalization of cryptocurrencies, measured by TradingView, inched up a measly 3% to $3.27 trillion over the past six months. Looking closer, the performance was starkly uneven, with bitcoin BTC holding up the rest of the market. BTC climbed 13% in the first six months of 2025, continuing to outshine the broader market. Meanwhile, Ethereum's ether ETH, the second-largest crypto asset, tumbled 25%, and Solana SOL shed nearly 17%. Smaller and riskier tokens endured even sharper losses: the OTHERS index on TradingView, which excludes the 10 largest assets by market cap, plunged 30%. Despite the modest start to the year, some analysts see room for renewed upside. Joel Kruger, market strategist at LMAX Group, noted that July has historically been a strong month for crypto, averaging 7.56% returns since 2013. 'We enter a period that has traditionally delivered stronger returns,' said Kruger. 'With the second half of the year historically producing outsized gains, the broader setup remains encouraging.' Kruger also highlighted that the crypto treasury strategy trend is increasingly expanding beyond bitcoin, with firms announcing plans to accumulate digital assets like ETH. Coinbase analysts also maintained a positive outlook for crypto through the second half of the year, driven by favorable macroeconomic backdrop, potential rate cuts by the Federal Reserve and increasing regulatory clarity in the U.S. with lawmakers advancing legislation for stablecoins and the broader crypto market structure. Still, the next couple months could be lackluster, Bitfinex analysts warned. The next quarter-year starting with July has been historically the weakest for bitcoin, averaging only 6% gains since 2013, they said in a Monday report. "This is also where average volatility is subdued, adding to our bias of range bound price action continuing for longer," the authors noted. The Smartest High-Yield Dividend ETF to Buy With $100 Right Now

Investors looking for high dividend yields need to be careful they don't overreach on the income front. When it comes to ETFs, a curated screening process is vital. One high-yield dividend ETF stands out for its focus on company quality, high yields, and dividend growth. 10 stocks we like better than Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF › Dividend investors have to take a lot of different factors into consideration when buying individual stocks. Those factors don't go away just because you are buying a dividend-focused exchange-traded fund (ETF). In fact, because you are giving your money to someone else to manage when buying an ETF, you should have a good understanding of how the fund invests your money. The Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF (NYSEMKT: SCHD), which trades for well under $100 per share, stands out as an attractive option for income investors. From a big-picture perspective, the Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF essentially does what you would likely do if you were buying dividend stocks one by one. The ETF invests in companies that are financially strong and well run, have histories of dividend growth, and sport attractive yields. To do this, the Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF tracks the Dow Jones Dividend 100 Index, which focuses on only those companies that have increased their dividends for 10 consecutive years or more (real estate investment trusts, or REITs, are removed from consideration). Once it has this list, a composite score is created based on cash flow to total debt, return on equity, dividend yield, and the company's five-year dividend growth rate. Each factor is important. Cash flow to total debt looks at financial strength. Return on equity examines business quality. Dividend yield is, well, dividend yield. And the five-year dividend growth rate represents stability and management's commitment to returning capital to shareholders. The 100 highest-scoring companies are included in the Dow Jones Dividend 100 Index and weighted by market capitalization. The Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF works to replicate the holdings and returns of the index, and it does so with a very modest expense ratio of 0.06%. The first reason to like the Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF is that its underlying screening criteria largely match what income investors are usually looking for in a dividend stock. The second reason to buy it is performance. The ETF's dividend yield is 4.0% as of this writing, well above the scant 1.3% you would collect from an S&P 500 index fund. The yield is clearly attractive, but look at the graph above. Over time, the dividend has trended higher along with the price of the ETF. That means a growing income stream and share price appreciation, which is pretty much the ideal outcome for most dividend investors. Meanwhile, thanks to regular rebalancing by the Dividend 100 index, the Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF also regularly adjusts its holdings so it is invested in the most attractive dividend stock candidates based on the screening requirements. If you have $100 and want to own a reliable dividend investment, then the Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF is likely to be a smart choice for you. That $100 will get you three full shares as of this writing, and if your brokerage offers fractional shares, you can buy closer to four of them. Sure, there are dividend-focused exchange-traded funds that are less complicated. They might track indexes that simply select stocks based only on dividend yield, for example. But buying based on yield alone can leave you with a portfolio of high-risk investments. The Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF helps you screen for quality dividend stocks without having to do any of the complicated work. A generous yield, growing dividend, and capital appreciation can all work together to make this a top pick for income investors.
