Dubai: Dubai students have come out with flying colours in India's ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) and ISC (Indian School Certificate) exams, with at least three of them celebrating scores of 99% or more.
The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations in New Delhi released the results of the Class X (ICSE) and Class XII (ISC) Year 2025 Examinations on Wednesday. The results have been released earlier than usual this year. They were previously announced in the first or second week of May in recent years.
Like last year, Dubai schools have scored 100 per cent pass percentage.
At GEMS Modern Academy (GMA) in Dubai, Tanush Nayan Shenai topped the ICSE Grade 10 batch with 99.2%, closely followed by Aarav Goyal who scored 99%.

GMA toppers speak
ICSE topper Tanush Nayan Shenai said: 'I am extremely grateful to my school, teachers, parents, and God for their constant support and guidance. They have truly inspired me to pursue excellence in academics and strive towards my future journey as an aspiring engineer-entrepreneur and, most importantly, as a better human being.'
Gayathri Ranjit Menon, who topped the ISC students, said she is going to the University of Edinburgh to pursue a degree in Veterinary Medicine. Sharing her mantra for success, she said: 'A little progress each day adds up to big results. This mantra helped me work consistently throughout the weeks of preparation for the board exams. I would like to sincerely thank my family, friends, and all my amazing teachers for constantly pushing me to excel.'
Competency-based assessments
Nargish Khambatta, Principal of GEMS Modern Academy and Senior Vice President – Education, GEMS Education, said this year's ISC cohort of 144 students delivered a batch average of 90.9%, while 300 ICSE students achieved a batch average of 88.6%. 'Today, we simply celebrate with hearts full of joy, gratitude, and pride. The journey ahead is bright, and we'll walk it together. Bravo, boys and girls, you inspire us all,' she said in a statement. Meanwhile, Lisa Crausby OBE, Group Chief Education Officer, GEMS Education, appreciated the students' success 'despite the shift to competency-based assessments'.

'This year, a record number of students scored above 90%, with many earning distinctions and perfect scores in individual subjects—a true testament to their dedication, consistency, and the quality of education they receive at JSS. Our toppers have excelled across streams, demonstrating not just academic brilliance but a commitment to continuous growth. These achievements reflect the strength of our academic vision and the tireless efforts of our students, faculty, and families,' said Lata Nakra, the Principal.

Fomo in studies? UAE's IB toppers say passion, 'fear of missing opportunities' key to scores

As IB results were announced on Saturday, some UAE students achieved scores that rank them among the top 0.1 per cent of IB Diploma candidates globally. But when asked what got them there, rather than long hours of last-minute cramming, most spoke of purpose, curiosity, and staying true to themselves, even when things were unpredictable. Aanya Khandelwal, a student of GEMS Modern Academy (GMA) and part of the Rahhal programme, was one of the few to achieve the perfect score of 45. But her journey through the IB wasn't typical. While others were in classrooms, Aanya was often representing youth voices at the United Nations. 'I actually worked for the United Nations (UN),' she shared with Khaleej Times, describing a demanding schedule where she regularly missed school. 'Very often I would miss school because, nearly every Thursday, I would have UN calls that I needed to attend. And at least for a month, every semester or so, I would have a UN conference to attend elsewhere.' Balancing global diplomacy and academics might seem overwhelming, but Aanya found a rhythm that worked for her. 'Consistency with many hours of studies is not something that I'd pride myself on… I generally used to study close to test dates,' she admitted. 'I think consistency is something that's more integral with something that is more content based, like biology.' Taking four Higher Level subjects while being on Rahhal pushed her limits, but Aanya said the IB gave her space to grow intellectually and emotionally. 'Subjects like English, literature, politics, economics; a lot of them were interpretive. I was really lucky that my exposure with the UN gave me a deeper understanding. I didn't have to push myself as much when it came to politics, for example, because I already had context.' Staying present in the classroom For Melis Yilmaz, another perfect scorer from Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills, the challenge was more traditional — but no less personal. She is now preparing to study medicine at Imperial College London. 'I took Biology HL, Chemistry HL; those were the hardest subjects for me, yet, I enjoyed them the most and felt less pressure,' she said. Melis wasn't someone who studied endlessly throughout the year. During regular terms, it was a couple of hours a day. 'But four to six weeks before exams, I started studying five to six hours a day,' she said. What helped her most was staying present in the classroom. 'I would emphasise the importance of giving a 100 per cent of your effort during class, because then you have less to revise over in exam times since you understood everything properly the first time around. Also, I had the best teachers who always answered my excessive questions, and made time for me whenever I asked for it,' added the Turkish expat. Unlike many others, Melis found coursework like the Internal Assessments, the Theory of Knowledge essay and the Extended Essay more stressful than the final exams. 'But again, what helped was selecting topics for my coursework which I actually felt interested in,' she said. 'Academic excellence is only possible when you like your subjects and feel passionate about the fact that there is so much knowledge in the world and you want to get to know as much as you can.' Excel sheet to track revision progress At DIA Al Barsha, Kanishka Kesharwani topped her school with 44 points and is headed to Durham University to study law. For her, success came from a deep sense of self-awareness — combined with a little fear. 'I believe my motivation was largely self-driven, and a big part of that came from the supportive environment my family provided — they never imposed any academic pressure on me,' she said. 'I've always seen potential in myself, but I'm also deeply aware of how overconfidence can lead to missed opportunities. That awareness kept me grounded and motivated.' After underwhelming mock results, she turned to structure for comfort. 'I immediately created a color-coded Excel sheet to track my revision progress out of fear. But watching topics shift from red to green gave me a unique sense of fulfillment,' she added. To her peers and juniors, she offered a simple piece of advice, 'don't let go of opportunities just because they require extra effort.' Kanishka also made it a point to plan ahead. 'College applications took up most of my time until October, followed by internal assessments through December. Between December and the February mock exams, I made it a point to spend time with friends and family. Those memories are just as valuable as the academic milestones.'

High achievers in UAE praised for stellar IB performance

UAE pupils have secured outstanding scores placing them among the International Baccalaureate global high achievers. Top pupils from schools around the UAE earned scores well over 40 points in the International Baccalaureate exams reaching exceptional academic success. The pupils will now head out to prestigious universities after the IB exam results were announced this weekend. Several star pupils including at least three from Gems Modern Academy and two from Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills hit the maximum score of 45 and were celebrated by their friends and family for an achievement earned by less than 0.5 per cent candidates worldwide. Satvik Gupta, among the Gems Modern Academy pupils to score a perfect 45, said he learnt to handle stress over the past two years of intense studying and has gained skills that will support him through college. 'As I go on to study electrical and computer engineering at Carnegie Mellon, I hope to enhance the skills I learnt and apply them towards meaningful projects and experiences,' said the Dubai pupil who benefitted from adhering to discipline and time management. His classmate Aanya Khandelwal, who also got a perfect score, will study international law in a New York college. ' The IB experience was both challenging and fascinating,' she said. 'It helped me grow and push boundaries. Moving forward, I'll be studying in New York city with my eyes set on law school to study human rights and international law.' The Gems Education group said pupils from seven schools in the UAE who took the IB diploma exams this year secured an average point score of 34 and a pass rate of 95 per cent that exceeded the global average last year of 30 points and 80 per cent. Support from teachers Alia Abdel Hamid, from Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills, said she owed her perfect score of 45 in the IB exams to the 'incredible support' and commitment of her teachers and the school community. 'The commitment of my teachers and the broader school community created an environment where I could truly thrive,' she said in an Instagram post. 'I'm proud of what we've achieved together.' Melis Yilmaz, also from Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills, was overjoyed with her perfect score and said her school journey had been transformative. 'The demanding academic environment, combined with unwavering support, has fostered both intellectual and personal growth,' she said. 'The strong sense of community and the constant encouragement to think critically and embrace a global perspective have equipped me for the future in ways I could never have imagined.' The UAE IB Association congratulated all pupils who completed the IB programme. 'We commend the extraordinary dedication of every student, especially those who achieved the maximum 45 points, a truly remarkable accomplishment reached by only a small percentage of IB graduates worldwide. Their success is a testament to the rigorous academic discipline and holistic development fostered by the IB,' said Richard Drew, chair of the UAE IB Association. 'Equally, we celebrate the achievements of all students who have earned access to universities and pathways of their choice, whether in the UAE or abroad. Each journey is unique, and every outcome is the result of months, and often years of hard work, perseverance and curiosity.' He said the support of families, teachers and school communities had empowered the young pupils to thrive, adding that their commitment 'continues to shape the UAE's future as a hub for educational excellence and international-minded leadership'. Confidence instilled UAE school operator Taalem celebrated the exceptional performance of pupils with schools across the group achieving 100 per cent pass rates. Officials said pupils scored high scores and had obtained offers from leading universities in the US, UK, Europe and the UAE. 'School leaders have praised this year's graduates as thoughtful, well-rounded individuals, ready to thrive in a complex, global society,' said Nicki Williams, director of education Taaleem. 'These results are a testament to the determination of Taaleem's learners, the dedication of their teachers, and the unwavering support of their families. Across the group, the Class of 2025 has set a new benchmark for excellence and leaves inspired to make a positive impact in the world.' Heads of education said they were proud of the pupils and praised teachers for the conviction they had instilled in the teenagers that would see them through higher studies and their chosen career paths. 'Our students have once again shown what's possible with ambition, perseverance, and the right support,' said Lisa Crausbym group chief education officer at Gems Education. 'These outstanding results reflect their tireless effort and the dedication of our world-class educators. As our students take the next steps into higher education and beyond, they carry with them the confidence and capability to lead, to innovate, and to shape a better world.' Repton Dubai said 87 per cent of their pupils scored above the global average of 30 points with an average score of 35 points and their top pupils had earned spots in their first university of choice. ' These results reflect not only academic rigour but also the resilience, creativity and critical thinking our students embody,' said Michael Bloy, principal of Repton Dubai School. 'I congratulate every graduate and thank our dedicated staff and supportive families who have guided them on this journey.'
