A new chapter begins in F1 history with the news this morning that Christian Horner has left his position as CEO and Team Principal of Red Bull Racing.
Horner was fired from his position as CEO and Team Principal of Red Bull Racing after a successful two-decade tenure. The leadership of Red Bull Racing will now fall to Laurent Mekies, who previously ran the team at Racing Bulls. Under Horner's leadership since 2005, Red Bull has evolved into a dominant force, winning six Constructors' Championships and eight Drivers' titles.
Despite the success Christian Horner helped lead at Red Bull, his tenure has been marred by controversy lately. An internal investigation cleared Horner of sexual harassment and coercive behavior allegations in 2024, but the leak of illicit, supposedly texted and imaged material certainly didn't sit well with Red Bull leadership. Red Bull's new engine partner, Ford, expressed its disappointment through two statements regarding the handling of the allegations and the insufficient level of transparency. The organization experienced internal conflicts, which led to the departure of essential staff members, including Adrian Newey.

What ultimately led to Christian Horner's departure was the faltering performance of Red Bull on the circuit. The team won 21 out of 22 Grand Prix during 2023, won 9 in 2024 and has achieved only two victories this season. The Constructors' standings now show McLaren in the lead position by a significant margin, indicating that Red Bull Racing faces a major strategic challenge.
In addition to Horner's firing and performance issues, the team is also dealing with the distinct possibility that its top driver, Max Verstappen, could exercise an out clause in his contract after this season. Verstappen has been very public about his disappointment with the car this year and has seen his performance suffer over the past two races. Rumors of a jump to Mercedes have been hot recently, and early this season, so too were talks of the four-time F1 world champion.

Christian Horner being fired is just the first step of many in what looks to be a season of change for the once mighty and proud Red Bull Racing F1 team.

When is 'F1' coming to streaming? Here's our best guess

"F1" raced onto the scene as one of the most anticipated movies of the summer The Apple Original sports drama sees "greatest that never was" Formula 1 racer Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) recruited by an ex-teammate (Javier Bardem) to help bring his struggling F1 franchise, APXGP, back from the brink. Sonny takes him up on the offer, but butts heads with the team's hotshot youngster, Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris). It's a sports movie with drama both on and off the track, and plenty of thrilling action — fellow TG writer Malcolm McMillan went so far as to proclaim it "the movie of the summer — and it's earned solid reviews and has performed well at the box office so far. If you'd prefer to skip the trip to the theater and see the movie at home, we unfortunately do not yet have an official "F1" streaming date. However, that hasn't stopped me from trying to predict when the movie might come to Apple TV Plus: here's my best guess. At the time of writing, the only way to see Brad Pitt and Joseph Kosinski's "F1" movie is by heading to your nearest movie theater, and we'll likely have to wait a little while before it's available to stream at home. That's because "F1" only hit the big screen on June 27. And if you're hoping to watch it at home as soon as possible, "F1" will presumably first release on Premium Video-on-Demand (PVOD) storefronts before coming to a streaming service. While we don't have a confirmed "F1" streaming date yet, we at least know where the movie will be available first. As it's an Apple Original Film, you can expect to stream "F1: The Movie" on Apple TV Plus. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Unlike with other streaming services, it's a little trickier to predict when "F1" might come to streaming. My best guess right now is that the "F1" movie will be available on Apple TV Plus at some point in fall 2025. That's not a very precise window, but the wait for past Apple Original Films has varied wildly. For example, we waited 100 days for Ridley Scott's "Napoleon" to come to streaming, 84 days for "Killers of the Flower Moon", and just 70 days for "Argylle" to come to Apple's streaming service. Greg Berlanti's underrated period romantic comedy "Fly Me to the Moon" took a lot longer, arriving just over four months after it originally premiered. If we split the difference between and assume an approximate 85-day wait, we might see the "F1" movie streaming on Apple TV Plus on or around September 20, 2025. Of course, that's just my very unofficial guess. I'll be sure to update this article as and when we get more concrete info or a confirmed "F1" streaming date. If you're looking to make the most of your Apple TV Plus subscription in the meantime, be sure to check out our guide to the best Apple TV Plus shows you can watch right now.

Cineplex reports June box office revenue totalled $51.8M, up from $51.4M a year ago

TORONTO - Cineplex Inc. says its box office revenue for June totalled $51.8 million, marking the first quarter since 2019 that it topped $50 million in each month. The movie theatre company says a steady stream of blockbuster titles, combined with strong demand for its premium formats drove sustained attendance and revenue growth throughout the quarter. The result for June was up from the $51.4 million the company took in at the box office in June 2024. Cineplex says the results for June were helped by the strength of the live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon and F1: The Movie. Box office for the second quarter as a whole totalled $158.5 million, up from $114.5 million in the same quarter last year. Cineplex has 172 movie theatres and entertainment venues across Canada. This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 10, 2025. Companies in this story: (TSX:CGX)

Christian Horner's Comments on Ferrari Resurface After Red Bull F1 Exit

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Christian Horner's thoughts about the Ferrari F1 team have resurfaced after his abrupt exit from Red Bull Racing on Wednesday. The Milton Keynes-based team announced it was parting ways with Horner with immediate effect. Horner served Red Bull for 20 years, playing a big role in achieving six constructors' championships and eight drivers' championships. Red Bull showcased its most recent dominance under his leadership in the current ground effect era that began in 2022. The following year, in 2023, saw the outfit secure 21 Grand Prix victories out of a 22-race calendar. It was in the same year that Horner was asked about a potential move to Ferrari. The then-Red Bull boss stated that Ferrari must prioritize becoming a winning team, and admitted that heading it was a high-pressure job. He said: "I think the biggest problem for Ferrari is that it's a national team. It needs to get back to being a race team. Scuderia Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur and Oracle Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner arrive in the paddock together during qualifying ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Mexico at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on October 26, 2024 in Mexico City, Mexico. More"It's an Italian institution and there's probably too many people at the top end. Everybody has an input and has a say. "From the outside looking in, one of our strengths is that we move quickly, we make decisions and we stick to them. And if we make the wrong decision, we change the decision. "I think, for Ferrari, the newspapers have such an influence on what happens there. So it's a lot of pressure being at Ferrari." Rumors about Horner joining Ferrari swirled again in the paddock during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend a few weeks ago. F1 journalist Joe Saward recalled Ferrari chairman John Elkann's interest in Horner back in 2022 and revealed whether the Briton would still be interested in leading the red team. He wrote: "This story was true about three years ago when Ferrari chairman John Elkann jetted over the England and dropped in to see Christian and asked him if he would like to move to Maranello. Horner said 'Thanks for the offer' and Elkann rang his pilots and told them to spool up the jets. "Horner's response is unlikely to change if Ferrari does come calling again, but he said that they had not. For many in F1 joining Ferrari is considered a career move akin to throwing oneself on a bonfire (with a flameproof wallet) because the team seems to be unfixable. It is nearly a generation since Ferrari won its last Formula 1 title. "It is probably inevitable that Vasseur's future is beginning to be questioned. He has been there for a couple of seasons and things have not gone particularly well." While these were Saward's thoughts about Horner before his Red Bull ousting, it remains to be seen if Horner would change his mind about Ferrari after Red Bull parted ways with him.
