When it was announced that fan-favorite writer Scott Snyder was launching another title for ComiXology Originals and Image Comics, many were excited. However, the intrigue deepened when it was revealed that Scott would collaborate with his son Jack on the project. Thus, on October 10th, 2023, ComiXology Original's 'By a Thread' was born, featuring art by the talented Valeria Favoccia. Synopsis
Ten years ago, a deadly and mysterious infection spread across the Earth's terrain, forcing humankind to live in communities precipitously built above the ground.
Growing up on Needle Three, Jo barely remembers a time before darkness enveloped the world. But when our hero's community comes under attack by the despotic Charon and his forces, Jo and his friends must decide whether or not to venture across the wasteland in search of a safe haven as the world hangs by a thread.
Arriving on June 3rd, Scott and Jack are thrilled to bring fans the second volume of their exciting tale. Ahead of the June 3rd premiere, we're excited to showcase artist Valeria Favoccia's concept art and character descriptions for Scott and Jack's 'By a Thread.' ART and CHARACTER DESCRIPTION by Valeria Favoccia: Charon:
When I first heard about him, I suggested his name after the ferryman who carries the souls into the afterlife and I'm very happy that we decided to keep it! I wanted him to look almost inhuman, something that gives you creeps just staring at him, with a solemn presence and a shaman inspiration. I've read some people saying that he looks like Vessel, the Sleep Token singer, but I didn't know the band when I created him, even if it's true that they have similar vibes.
Ren
She was the hardest one to bring to life. We worked a lot on her design to reach the final result. Her biggest inspo were the swan and Lady Gaga. I love how Gaga has this ethereal elegance but with a creepiness underneath and I wanted to recreate something like that. Also, the Swan is elegant as well, but lethal and fierce. Her weapons remind me of wings and even her cape, when she fights!
Admiral
For her, I've used the same inspo/design that I used for crystal soldiers and Rowan & Juniper's Father's uniform. She's determined, she doesn't care about the outside world and she's very dedicated to her role, so I didn't want to spill too many emotions on her, just a powerful, cold, military woman.
Juniper
She's Rowan's twin sister and when I thought about her design I wanted to make it a mirror version of Rowan. So, she has her hair short too, but it goes down her face, she has a cape too, but her one is straight and a sign of power. I wanted a practical outfit that looked like a uniform. Also, I love Devil May Cry very much, so I wanted to give them some sort of Dante/Vergil vibes.
Charlie
She's the one who cares about the other the most. Her design was inspired by a friend of mine. I want her to almost look like an idol, with short light pink hair and puff lips. She's very clever, she's an engineer, so I wanted to give her a comfy, urban but cool design that almost looks like a repair shop worker.
Jo
Jo is my favourite one (don't tell the others!!) I was free to explore whatever design I wanted to create, and I think he came out on the first try. He has all the things that I enjoy drawing, messy hair with bold shapes, black scars that almost look like tattoos, a loose tank top and overall, an urban but all-black outfit. I just enjoy drawing him, I wanted something that feels as natural as possible for me, but also to reflect his aura. He's grumpy but brave, he almost lost every hope but has huge beliefs in his friends. Looking at him, you know that he won't let go that easily without fighting until the end.
Canon
He's the purest soul of the group. I didn't want him to look like a stereotypical Japanese nerd boy, so I gave him a nice twist with his hair -which I think makes him look cool- and I play a lot with his shirt, giving him a fun design to wear. Also, his red glasses are his signature as they give him a more childish look but also joyful.
Muscles
This was supposed to be a guy in the beginning, if I'm not wrong, a buffed and strong one, but I just wanted a huge girl even too much huge to be real but that nobody asks questions about her stance, she's just like that. Of course, her outfit is inspired by wrestlers and boxers, and I wanted to play with her hair to give her a unique shape. If you look at her you can almost say that's some sort of a buffed Taranee from W.i.t.c.h. series. 😊
Hunter
I wanted them to look sneaky and stealthy, something unpredictable. The most important thing in Hunter are their eyes and I play a lot just with their gestures and expressions, I think that even if they're almost completely covered with clothes, they are one of the most expressive character of the group. I designed a hat which I think gave them some more dynamism (and also, I would love to wear one if I could!) and decided their colors that I think goes well with Muscles since I think about them as one thing.
ComiXology Originals 'By a Thread, Vol 2, Issue 1 by Scott Snyder, Jack Snyder, Valeria Favoccia, and Whitney Cogar comes to digital June 3rd.

Black Sabbath's ‘Legendary Lost Tapes' to be released for the first time

A collection of Black Sabbath recordings, from when the influential metal act was known as Earth, are set to be released for the first time. The four-piece, formed in 1968, were originally called The Polka Tulk Blues Band before changing their name to Earth soon after. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward recorded a series of demos in 1969 at Zella Studios, Birmingham, that were never made public. In the same year, Earth changed their title once again, this time to Black Sabbath, after their own song, which was inspired by Mario Bava's 1963 Italian horror movie of the same name. The news comes as Black Sabbath prepares to play their farewell show at Villa Park on Saturday (July 5). It has been announced that the tapes, titled Earth: The Legendary Lost Tapes, will be released on July 25 via Big Bear Records, although the band are reportedly not involved in the release. Jim Simpson, the band's first manager, has supervised the project. 'Before Black Sabbath, the band were known as Earth – a blues-driven powerhouse already making a name for themselves,' he said. 'This new release presents rare early recordings from that era, remastered from long-lost tapes.' He added: 'These recordings clearly demonstrate what fine music they produced right from the very beginning. We recorded these tracks at Zella Studio in Birmingham in 1969, but held back from releasing them as their style was evolving so quickly. 'Now, some 57 years later, the recordings assume a greater importance, illustrating how these four young men from Birmingham, barely out of their teens, were excellent musicians and a fine band, fully deserving of all the success that was to come their way.' On Saturday (June 28), Black Sabbath were awarded the freedom of the city of Birmingham prior to their farewell performance, which has been nicknamed 'Back To The Beginning'. Osborne, also known as the 'Prince of Darkness', has not played a full gig since 2018 as a result of his poor health. However, the singer has said he will be 'giving 120 per cent' as he prepares for the final performance alongside his original bandmates, whom he has not played with in 20 years. During an episode of Ozzy Speaks on SiriusXM, Osborne said: 'If my God wants me to do the show, I'll do it.' In February, fans expressed outrage over the 'ridiculous' price of tickets to the band's last gig, as pre-sale ticket prices ranged between £197.50 and £834. Tool, Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins and others are all set to support the band at their last gig.

SUPERMAN Post-Credits Scenes Reportedly Revealed and They Don't Set Up Any Future DCU Films — GeekTyrant

James Gunn's Superman just had its first official screening, and naturally, details are leaking online. With select press, influencers, and a few lucky DC fans in attendance, it was only a matter of time before post-credits details surfaced, and now they have. According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, Superman includes two post-credits scenes, and true to Gunn's word, they're not focused on laying down the DCU's future roadmap. Instead, they feel more like small moments meant to add flavor rather than fuel speculation. 'Superman has two post credits scenes, one is Superman with Krypto on the moon looking at the Earth. 'The second is Superman and Mister Terrific looking at a giant crack in a massive building because the ground split in half during the finale and Supes says it's crooked and Terrific gets all annoyed and walks away and kicks a rock. It's a funny scene.' So yeah… no cameos, no cosmic threat teased, no ominous new villain lurking in the shadows. The first post credits scene with Superman and Krypto has actually been featured on a poster and a TV spot. The Mister Terrific bit sounds more like something to make audiences laugh. For some fans, that might be refreshing. But for others, especially those expecting Marvel-style teases, it could feel like a letdown. That's by design, though. Gunn has made it clear he's not trying to turn every movie into a springboard for the next. Instead, he's aiming for stories that can stand on their own while naturally overlapping through shared characters. Take Guy Gardner, for example. We'll meet him in Superman, then see more of his story in Peacemaker before he pops up again in Lanterns , alongside Hal Jordan and John Stewart. It's a slower, more character-focused way to build a universe. Gunn isn't chasing interconnected chaos. He's crafting a world with breathing room. While Superman's post-credits scenes might not be headline-worthy teases, they will offer heart, a bit of humor, and no rush to get somewhere else.

Theory for James Gunn's SUPERMAN Says That Suggests Kal-El Was Sent to Earth… to Conquer It — GeekTyrant

A new fan theory is picking up traction that reimagines Superman not as Earth's protector, but as its potential conqueror. With James Gunn's Superman set to hit theaters in July 2025, some fans are digging into clues from the trailers and piecing together a pretty wild possibility… What if Kal-El wasn't just a refugee from a dying world… but part of a long game of planetary domination? It all stems from a video posted by @bluerayangel on X, who suggests that the movie might draw inspiration from Invincible 's Omni-Man, a seemingly noble alien who was actually sent to soften up Earth for takeover. The comparison's definitely interesting, and if Gunn is going that route, it'd be one of the boldest takes on Superman we've seen on screen. @bluerayangel says: 'Here's the theory you probably haven't heard yet. James Gunn's Superman seems to be struggling with his identity, his Kryptonian heritage, and his human upbringing with the Kents.' That emotional tug-of-war has been central to Superman stories forever, but the theory kicks things up a notch. They continue: 'In the trailer, we hear him talk about how he feels like, maybe he's not who he thought he was, and his father, Pa Kent, tells him, 'Your choices, your actions, that's what makes you who you are.' So what if? In this version of Superman, Jor-El is revealed to have sent Superman to Earth to conquer it.' It would radically shift not only how Kal-El views himself but also how humanity, and possibly Lex Luthor, views him. And that's exactly where the theory goes next. The user adds, 'Maybe they go with the Superman: Birthright comic storyline where Lex gets hold of the Fortress of Solitude and manipulates it. Maybe he finds a way to control what Jor-El says to Superman. 'Maybe he's the one that implants this idea that Superman was sent by Kryptonians to conquer. That Kryptonians themselves are evil. And the whole point of this story, this Superman, is to prove that people are not born evil.' It's not exactly a new idea to make Lex a master manipulator, but combining that with a corrupted message from Jor-El or a reprogrammed Kryptonian history could offer a fresh way to explore the character's internal battle. It also reframes the usual 'alien outsider' narrative into a story about free will and nature versus nurture. At this point, we don't have confirmation about how closely the film will follow traditional Superman lore. For all we know, this theory could be totally off-base. But the idea of Lex shaping Superman's beliefs, or even tampering with the Kryptonian message, feels like exactly the kind of meta-narrative twist Gunn loves to play with. Until more is revealed, fans will have to keep theorizing. But if Gunn's Superman really is wrestling with the possibility that he was meant to conquer Earth… that's a whole new kind of legacy to fight against.
