IPO market outlook for H2 2025 remains cautiously optimistic amid improving economic conditions

Hans Indiaa day ago
Mumbai: The outlook for India's initial public offering (IPO) market in the second half of 2025 remains cautiously optimistic, experts said on Sunday.
Ratiraj Tibrewal, CEO of Choice Capital Advisors, believes that economic conditions are likely to improve in the coming months as global and domestic challenges such as inflation, interest rates, geopolitical tensions, and currency volatility begin to ease.
This positive outlook follows a strong performance in the first half of 2025, when companies raised Rs 45,351 crore through IPOs despite ongoing global trade tensions and macroeconomic concerns.
The amount raised represents a 45 per cent jump compared to Rs 31,281 crore collected during the same period the previous year.
Interestingly, while the funds raised increased, the number of IPOs fell to 24 in January–June 2025 from 36 in the same period the previous year.
This suggests that companies are opting for larger issue sizes, supported by strong investor demand.
According to data shared by merchant bankers, nearly 67 per cent of the IPOs listed in the first half of the year debuted at a premium, with an average return of around 25 per cent for investors.
Big names such as HDB Financial Services, Hexaware Technologies, Schloss Bangalore, and Ather Energy hit the market during this period.
Most of these public issues included a mix of fresh equity and offers for sale, with funds being used for expansion, debt repayment, and working capital.
The period also saw a spike in companies preparing to go public. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) received draft IPO papers from 118 companies, more than double the 52 filings in the same period the previous year. This indicates strong future activity in the market.
JM Financial emerged as the leader in the IPO space, managing 10 issues that collectively raised Rs 26,838 crore in the first quarter of FY26 alone, according to Prime Database.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, said that improving earnings in Q1 and Q2 of FY26, along with progress on the India-US trade deal, could further boost market sentiment.
However, he also warned that the high base of Rs 1.3 lakh crore raised in the second half of 2024 may make year-on-year (YoY) comparisons more challenging, especially if there is a slowdown in foreign and retail investor inflows.

Havells India's Q1 net profit falls 33 pc sequentially, revenue down 17 pc

Mumbai: Havells India on Monday reported a net profit of Rs 347.53 crore in the first quarter (Q1) of FY26, down 32.78 per cent on quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) basis from Rs 517 crore in Q4 FY25. Revenue from operations also dropped by 16.63 per cent, falling to Rs 5,455.35 crore from Rs 6,543.56 crore in the previous quarter, according to its stock exchange filing. Total income for the quarter also followed suit and stood at Rs 5,524.53 crore -- marking a 16.45 per cent decline from Rs 6,612.28 crore in Q4 FY25. Year-on-year (YoY), the company also saw a drop in its profit. Consolidated profit after tax (PAT) fell 14.75 per cent from Rs 407.51 crore in the April-June quarter of the previous fiscal. Revenue from operations also declined 6 per cent YoY from Rs 5,806.21 crore in Q1 FY25. The company's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) fell to Rs 570 crore, slightly lower than Rs 576 crore in the same quarter previous year. The EBITDA margin dropped to 5.6 per cent, compared to 9.9 per cent a year ago, as per its exchange filing. Havells attributed the weak performance to an unusually mild summer this year, which hurt demand for cooling products like fans and air coolers. It noted that while industrial and infrastructure demand remained strong, consumer sentiment was weak. "Tepid summer this year, in contrast to the strong season last year, led to significant decline in cooling products," the company said in its exchange filing. Among its segments, wires and cables performed strongly, with revenue rising 27.1 per cent to Rs 1,933 crore compared to Rs 1,521 crore a year ago. However, the lighting and fixtures business slipped 3.1 per cent to Rs 374 crore. The company also highlighted that the performance of its Lloyd brand was impacted due to unseasonal rains and a shorter summer, leading to higher inventory levels and flattish growth in the first half of the calendar year. The results were announced after market hours. Ahead of the announcement, Havells' stock closed 0.95 per cent higher at Rs 1,533 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

Jane Street Reenters Indian Markets After $567 Million Deposit: Sources

India's markets regulator has allowed Jane Street to restart trading after the US high-frequency trading firm deposited $567 million, two sources aware of the matter said on Monday. The regulator sent an email to the firm on Friday in which it said that following the deposit of the money, the restrictions imposed by its interim order are no longer applicable, said the sources, who declined to be named because they are not authorised to speak to the media. In an interim order issued on July 3, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) had barred the firm from buying and selling securities in the Indian market and froze $567 million of its funds. Jane Street could resume trading if an equivalent amount was deposited in an account that gives the regulator rights over the money until its investigation is complete, the order stated. Email queries sent to Jane Street and SEBI were not answered immediately. The country's stock exchanges, the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd and BSE Ltd, have been directed to closely monitor the activity of the US-based quant trading firm, the sources said. The two exchanges are yet to facilitate Jane Street's buying and selling of Indian securities, said one of the sources. "While the firm has been allowed to resume trading in India, it has given an undertaking to SEBI that it will not trade in options. The firm also does not intend to trade in cash till it has explained its trades to SEBI," the second source said.
