NEET-UG to be conducted at 125 centres amid tight security today
To ensure a fair and orderly conduct of the examination, 104 static magistrates, 20 nodal officers and 96 police escorts have been deployed across the state. Also, 15 magistrates have been placed on alert at the district control room. Additional district magistrate (law and order), Patna, has been appointed as the nodal officer responsible for overseeing the smooth conduct of the exam.
Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh and SSP Avkash Kumar had earlier held a joint briefing to emphasise the importance of maintaining a clean, fair and peaceful examination environment. Centre superintendents and invigilators were instructed to remain vigilant, responsive and committed to strictly enforcing the guidelines issued by the
National Testing Agency
(NTA). The DM also directed that all deployed police officers and magistrates must report to their respective examination centres on time.
Following last year's paper leak incident, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police had issued an advisory on Friday, warning NEET-UG candidates about the risk of cyberfraud ahead of the exam.
The advisory urged candidates to exercise caution and not to trust any phone calls or messages that promise access to question papers or answers before the examination.

Chhattisgarh ex-Maoist's daughter cracks NEET with 265 rank; father now serves as police
RAIPUR: In the heart of Chhattisgarh's conflict-affected Bastar region, a remarkable story of hope and transformation has emerged. Sandhya Kunjam, the 19-year-old daughter of a surrendered Maoist, has secured an impressive 265th rank in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and is now on her way to medical college. Her father, Ramesh Kunjam, 39, once a teenage Maoist cadre, is now a respected head constable in the District Reserve Guard (DRG) of Chhattisgarh Police. 'Now, my daughter Sandhya will embark on a journey I never imagined possible during my days in the forest,' Ramesh told TOI. Sandhya has consistently excelled in academics. Last year, she secured 306th rank in NEET. Encouraged by her father to try again, she worked harder and improved her rank to 265 this year. 'My dream is to join medical college, but even if I get BDS, veterinary or dentistry, I want to serve and succeed,' she said with quiet confidence. Sandhya was born in Jagargunda, Sukma district—an area long troubled by insurgency. Her father Ramesh joined the Maoist movement at the age of 13 and was involved in a deadly encounter at Tarrem in 1998, in which 16–17 security personnel were killed. Disillusioned by the violence and hardship, he surrendered in Dantewada in 2001. 'Maoism was an eye-wash,' he now says. After surrendering, Ramesh joined the police force and has since worked to protect the very communities he once fought against. Within a year of surrender, Ramesh married and started a family. Today, he is a proud father of two daughters and a son. His eldest, Sandhya, often asks him, 'What took you to the field of violence?' Ramesh, who studied only up to Class 5 in Bijapur's Silger region, was recruited by Maoists as part of routine 'bharti' (enlistment). Life in the camps was harsh—marked by rain, hunger, sleepless nights, and the constant fear of loss. 'When the Maoists came to our student organisation, they recruited us. But with no food, no shelter, and comrades disappearing, I started questioning why I was still there,' he recalled. When asked how he reconciles his past with his present, Ramesh said his children sometimes question his Maoist days. His reply: violence offers no lasting solution. 'This journey from the jungle to a police uniform, from struggle to education—is our family's new hope,' he said. Sandhya received coaching support from Kshitij Coaching Centre in Sukma, a government initiative aimed at helping students in remote regions. Of the 58 students from Sukma who appeared for NEET this year, 43 cleared the exam.

Three sentenced to life imprisonment for murder
Rajamahendravaram: Ina gruesome murder and robbery case that shocked Rajamahendravaram in 2013, the X Additional District and Sessions Court-cum-SC & ST Court has sentenced three accused to life imprisonment. The convicts, Devabathula Nag Mahesh alias Mahesh (37), Devabathula Lakshmana Rao (38), and Nakka Chandu alias Chepa (34), all residents of Rajamahendravaram, were found guilty of the cold-blooded murder of Puchchala Nagabharathi, a 48-year-old woman. The victim, Nagabharathi, who lived in Lakshmiwarapupeta, was running a school canteen near Jampeta. Mahesh and Lakshmana Rao used to supply snacks to her canteen. A casual business relationship developed into personal familiarity over time. On one occasion, she placed a large order for samosas for a function at her house. When the accused went to deliver the order, they observed that she was wearing gold jewellery. Motivated by greed, they conspired to rob her at a later time and brought in the third accused, Nakka Chandu, into their plan. On December 2, 2013, around 1 pm, the three accused went to the victim's residence and stole the jewellery and cash from her and house. When she resisted, they brutally murdered her on the spot. Her husband, upon discovering the incident, complained to the police and a case was registered. The investigation was led by then CIs M Ramesh and S Gangaraju, who apprehended the accused, recovered the stolen property, and filed the charge sheet in court. After a prolonged trial, Judge S Uma Sunanda pronounced the judgment, convicting all three and sentencing them to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000 each for the murder charge, and five years of imprisonment with an additional fine of Rs 3,000 each for theft. District Superintendent of Police D Narasimha Kishore commended the efforts of Additional Public Prosecutors K Radhakrishna Raju and D Srivani Bhai for their effective arguments. He also appreciated 3 Town Inspector Varri Apparao and other staff for closely monitoring the trial process.
