Glastonbury fans fume at 'atrocious' decision in Charli XCX's headliner

Charli XCX took to the stage to headline the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival, but fans were left fuming that Lorde didn't make an appearance for their collab Charli XCX delivered a blazing performance for her debut Glastonbury Festival headline slot, prompting many fans to echo a similar sentiment. The 32 year old British pop sensation began sharing music on Myspace in 2008 and swiftly became a staple of the London rave culture. With a succession of early 2010s singles and mixtapes under her belt, Charli XCX hit number one in the UK charts in 2012 with Icona Pop collaboration 'I Love It'. Her success soared following the global smash hit 'Fancy' with Iggy Azalea in 2014. ‌ Charli XCX reached new heights in the music industry last year after releasing hit album Brat. The album topped the charts in the UK, Ireland, and Australia. And it also made an impressive debut at number three on the Billboard 200. ‌ Her 2024 album, 'Brat', also garnered her eight Grammy nominations at the 67th annual awards including Album of the Year, as well as bagging three wins - Best Dance Pop Recording for "Von Dutch", Best Dance/Electronic Album, and Best Recording Package. Charli's fiancé, George Daniel of The 1975 fame, who also topped the bill at Glasto on Friday, was amongst the excited festival-goers. The excitement buzzed amid speculation that Lorde would grace the stage with Charli to perform their collaboration 'Girl, So Confusing' , reports the Manchester Evening News. However, Lorde's surprise gig at Woodies Stage at 11.30am meant she didn't join Charli XCX, leading to some disappointed fans voicing their feelings online. On X (the social network formerly known as Twitter), @ctphonehomee expressed dismay: "So lorde not being here is atrocious??" and @V4MPIRESHAWTY queried: "WHERE IS LORDE". ‌ One fan, @begforloves, expressed their surprise: "Now why would Lorde not be there", while @mattyscruff chimed in with: "not the crowd screaming bc they assumed lorde was coming out". @allyallonsy01 echoed the sentiment, stating: "I was hoping lorde was gonna come out". Taking to the stage in a black crop top and skimpy paints, she seductively teased the crowd and cameras. However, with those in attendance lapping up the display, it appears viewers at home weren't as impressed. Taking to Twitter /X, some fans blasted the singer for seemingly miming. One user fumed: "Oh ffs can't watch Scissor Sisters and Charli XCX is bloody dreadful. Could literally be any random person miming. WTF for a Glastonbury Saturday night, disappointing." Another added: "Predictable but shame nonetheless that charli xcx can't sing live #Glastonbury2025 #charlixcx FAKE." And a third said: "Charli xcx Embarressing [sic]that, turning up to walk around stage pretending to sing…"

Turkey Foreign Office advice explained and is it safe to visit

The latest Foreign Office advice for holiday goers travelling to Turkey this summer. Millions of people planning holidays to countries near Isreal and Iran may be worried about safety due to rising tensions in the region. On June 22, the US launched airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites as part of ongoing conflict between Isreal and Iran. Since then, there have been no further US strikes and American officials have said they do not want a wider war. On Monday, Iran fired missiles at a US base in Qatar, calling it a response to earlier US attacks. By Tuesday, a ceasefire between Israel and Iran had been announced by the US president. ‌ One popular holiday destination that sits relatively close to Iran and Israel is Turkey, but the country has not been involved in the recent military action. ‌ The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) regularly shares travel safety advice, and for Turkey the FCDO currently advises against all travel within 10km of the Syrian border due to ongoing fighting and a heightened risk of terrorism, the Echo reports. Conflict continues in parts of Syria near the Turkish border, and roads in Turkey's Hatay Province may be closed at short notice. In Turkey's Hakkari Province, located in the southeast, visitors must obtain permission from the local Governor's Officer to enter areas close to the borders with Iraq and Iran. The FCDO says: "If visiting with a travel agent or tour group, confirm with them whether you need an individual permit." Those in the region are urged to keep up to date with local media and follow the advice of the local authorities. Mount Ararat, in Ağrı Province of eastern Turkey, is a special military zone. You must have permission from the Doğubayazıt government office and pay a fee if going. If you're travelling with a tour group or travel agent, double check whether you'll need a separate permit. Anyone visiting the area is advised to "take extra care" and stay updated with advice from local authorities. ‌ Your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). For every country, the travel agency says before you travel check that: your destination can provide the healthcare you may need you have appropriate travel insurance for local treatment or unexpected medical evacuation ‌ Additional advise from the Foreign Office states: "If you are a British national wanting to cross the land border from Iran into Turkey, you will need to request facilitation from the British Embassy in Ankara by contacting the FCDO before travelling to the border, indicating whether you are contacting from Iran or from the UK on behalf of a relative." If you plan to leave Iran by land, be aware that you do so at your own risk. In some cases, simply holding a British passport or being seen as having links to the UK can lead the Iranian authorities to detain you. Meanwhile, regular protests are taking place in Istanbul and other parts of Turkey. The Foreign Office has warned that these demonstrations can turn violent, and police respond by using tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds.. If you choose to travel, make sure to thoroughly research your destination and have appropriate travel insurance. The Foreign Office currently has no safety concerns for popular Turkish holiday spots like Istanbul, Marmaris and Bodrum. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!

'Inspiring' Lewis Capaldi surprises fans again after secret Glastonbury set

Lewis Capaldi surprised another set of festival goers a day after his Glastonbury performance and was hailed for being an inspiration Lewis Capaldi has been at it again after an emotional Glastonbury comeback on Friday. The Scottish singer stunned the Worthy Farm crowd with a surprise set at this year's festival. But it wasn't just the British fans he wanted to make it up to. Taking to Instagram on Saturday, the Someone You Loved singer, 28, wrote: "Had to come back and make it up to you all x" ‌ And in similar fashion to his gig a day earlier, Lewis surprised fans in Switzerland after previously having to pull out of a show in 2023. The clip shared by Lewis showed the crowd being told in Switzerland in 2023: "Lewis Capaldi can't sing for us right now. ‌ "So we're going to sing for Lewis Capaldi." The scenes showed how the crowd at the time at OpenAir St Gallen coming together to show support for the star by singing his hit tune. Lewis then told his followers: "You filled in for me when I couldn't be there." And a video then showed him walking back on stage to huge applause as he said: "Switzerland 2025 I wanted to make it up to you." After waving at his adoring crowd, he then said: "My name's Lewis Capaldi and I'm f***ing back baby. Here we go." He paused mid song once again to emotionally take in the moment as the crowd serenaded him. As he finished the song he shared a sweet laugh at the scenes as fans flashed love heart signs with their hands. ‌ Fans in the comment section were keen to also share their support to the pop star. One user gushes: "The LEGEND IS BACK," while another praised: "What a comeback," with a love heart emoji. A third told him: "You are so incredibly loved. It was great to see you on that stage," an another added: "This is why we need to support each other with understanding, support and grace. I LOVE this. And it's very, very helpful and inspiring. Brilliant! Blessings to all." ‌ Following his impressive and emotional comeback, Lewis has released his first new song in two years. He had sent shockwaves on social media when he dropped a teaser for his brand new song in a poignant Instagram video just hours before his Glastonbury appearance. The song, titled Survive, clearly means a lot to the BRIT Award winning artist who has faced much turmoil over the past two years after stepping out of the limelight due to his mental health. Alongside the video, Lewis wrote: "It's been a while." And in classic Lewis style, the artist's new song is full of emotion. Lyrics on the track include "I swear to God I'll survive" and "I'm going to get up and live until the day that I die."
