Now, International Federation of Pilots also says AI 171 report 'raises questions, provides no answers'
NEW DELHI: The preliminary report into the crash of the June 12 Air India AI 171 crash in Ahmedabad continues to draw flak. Now, the International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations (IFALPA) has warned against coming to "hasty conclusions".
The report, whose details were known to a section of the western media 44 hours before the same was made public in by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) in India, has led to a suicide theory being propounded that has been slammed by pilots and other aviation experts.
"Whilst this preliminary report by its very nature raises many questions, it does not provide answers, and any extrapolation of its content can only be regarded as guesswork, which is not helpful to the good conduct of the investigation.
IFALPA also notes that the report clearly states that no safety recommendations are being provided at this stage," IFALPA said after reviewing the report.
"The victims, including the families of the crew and passengers of Air India 171, deserve our collective
professionalism while the full investigation is conducted," it adds.
Before IFALPA, the India Commercial Pilots' Association (ICPA) had slammed the "reckless and unfounded insinuation of pilot suicide" that has been doing the rounds after the preliminary report into AI 171 crash was made public on Saturday.

While not sharing the cockpit voice recorder transcript, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) report had this one line: "One of the pilots is heard asking the other why did he cutoff.
The other pilot responded that he did not do so."
ICPA, which is the union of erstwhile Indian Airlines, said in a statement issued Sunday: "We are deeply disturbed by speculative narratives, particularly the reckless and unfounded insinuation of pilot suicide.
Let us be unequivocally clear: there is absolutely no basis for such a claim at this stage, and invoking such a serious allegation based on incomplete or preliminary information is not only irresponsible-it is deeply insensitive to the individuals and families involved.

Expressing their "unwavering support for the flight crew of Air India flight Al 171," the ICPA statement added: "Pilots undergo extensive psychological and professional screening, recurrent training, and operate under the highest standards of safety, responsibility, and mental fitness.
To casually suggest pilot suicide in the absence of verified evidence is a gross violation of ethical reporting and a disservice to the dignity of the profession.

"As aviation professionals, we trust and respect the rigorous investigative protocols established by competent authorities. These inquiries are designed to uncover facts methodically and without bias. Until the official investigation is concluded and the final report is published, any speculation-especially of such a grave nature-is unacceptable and must be condemned.... The crew of Al 171 acted in line with their training and responsibilities under challenging conditions.
They deserve support-not vilification based on conjecture," it said.

For third day in a row, Delhi schools get hoax bomb threat emails
For the third consecutive day on Wednesday, seven schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails in the morning, prompting authorities to conduct search operations on the premises. All the threats turned out to be a hoax. Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials said the St Thomas School in Dwarka called them to notify about the threat at 5.26 am, followed by Vasant Valley in Vasant Kunj at 6.30 am, Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar at 8.11 am, and Mother International in Hauz Khas at 8.12 am. One fire tender was sent to each school. Similar threats were also received by two branches of Prudence School located in Ashok Vihar and Pirtampura, as well as Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodhi Estate, which promptly shut down the school for a day. The day also saw the police briefly apprehending a 12-year-old boy for allegedly sending fake bomb threats to St Stephen's College and St Thomas School on Tuesday. The police said the boy, a student of a private school, was apprehended in South Delhi, from where he had sent the emails. He was picked up and later released after counseling. 'When he sent the email, his parents were out of the city… During counseling, the boy revealed that he wanted the schools to be shut down and randomly tagged the email IDs of the college and the school,' a source in the police said. Similar threat emails were received on Monday by three Delhi schools – the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) School in Rohini's Sector 14, the Navy School in Chanakyapuri, and another CRPF School in Dwarka's Sector 16. Sources said the contents of the emails are the same, and the sender is also suspected to be one person. The email read, 'Good Morning… Explosive devices are hidden inside backpacks and placed around the classrooms of the school. This is extremely serious. You will all pay for your sins. Roadkill and Benji are the persons responsible for this bloodbath. Release our names to the press/media.' According to an officer, Wednesday's email was suspected to have been sent through VPN (Virtual Private Network), and the sender used the Tuta Mail service provider based in Germany. The police said they would write to Tuta Mail seeking details of the user. An officer said that legal action is being pursued, and the cyber units of the respective district police are conducting an inquiry into the bomb threats in their areas. Since last May, several schools in the Capital have been receiving similar hoax threats. More than 200 schools received bomb threats on their official email IDs in May 2024. Soon after, similar emails were sent to several hospitals, colleges, and the Delhi Airport. In May this year, Udyog Bhawan at the Central Secretariat had received a bomb threat via email, triggering extensive checking that ultimately resulted in the building being declared safe. In June, a Delhi-bound Air India flight from Mumbai had received a bomb threat after an airline crew member discovered a paper that said, 'Bomb in flight Air India 2948, Air India 171' written on it. However, checks by the DFS and the Central Industrial Security Force revealed the threat to be a hoax. Retired army man and wife found murdered in Bikaner home; tenants under scanner
1 2 Jaipur: The decomposed bodies of a 67-year-old retired army man and his wife were discovered inside their home in Muktaprasad Colony of Bikaner town on Tuesday, in what police believe is a suspected double murder. Officers said the bodies appeared to be at least three days old, and preliminary findings from the postmortem suggest the couple may have been strangled. A man who was living in the house as a tenant was detained for questioning. Police identified the victims as Gopal Verma and his 62-year-old wife, Nirmala Verma. The couple lived alone in their house in Sector 4/11. Both their sons work in different multinational companies. One of them live in Noida, while the other lives in Canada. According to police, Gopal Verma's son, who lives in Noida, repeatedly tried to call them but received no response. Concerned, he asked his uncle who lives nearby, to check on them. The uncle found the house locked and no one answered his knocks, prompting him to call the police. Investigators found a bag and some personal items in a room on the first floor, suggesting that part of the house may have been rented out without proper verification. Relatives in the town expressed suspicion about a former tenant, who has since been detained. "Prima facie, it seems the crime took place on Sunday. A long scarf appears to have been used to strangle the couple," an officer said. SP Bikaner Saurabh Tiwari said a man was detained and police are verifying the background of all former tenants. Local residents, joined by some public representatives, staged a sit-in on Tuesday demanding immediate arrests. Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Govt To Introduce National Agri-Market Policy To Boost Farmer Earnings
Nagpur: The Maharashtra government will soon unveil a national market policy aimed at ensuring better prices for farmers' produce. "The government is committed to farmer-centric reforms. To help farmers secure fair prices for their crops, we will soon introduce a national-level market framework," said marketing minister Jaykumar Rawal in the legislative assembly on Tuesday. He was responding to a notice raised by MLA Krishna Khopde regarding irregularities at the Nagpur Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC). The minister's statement came amid a heated debate in the assembly, where legislators Pravin Datke and Ashish Deshmukh also questioned the functioning and regulatory oversight at the Nagpur APMC. Rawal confirmed that serious irregularities had been identified in a recent inquiry, and disciplinary action had already begun. A fact-finding report submitted by the PL Khandagale Committee prompted the district deputy registrar of co-operative societies in Nagpur to initiate a second round of inquiries into the market's operations.
