Kentucky Derby 2025: Baffert's return, and Journalism is the horse to watch
Previewing the 151st Kentucky Derby, focusing on Journalism's chances and Bob Baffert's return.
Kentucky Derby week has arrived and "the most exciting two minutes in sports" is now less than a week away.
As the first leg of the American horse racing Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby is the most-watched and highest-attended horse race in the United States. This year's running at historic Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, will be the 151st in the race's illustrious history.
One of the biggest story lines for this year's Derby is the return of legendary trainer Bob Baffert to the track for the first time in four years. Baffert's Medina Spirit won the race in 2021, but was disqualified afterward for a positive drug test. That resulted in Baffert being banned from Churchill Downs for three years, a suspension that ends with this year's Derby.

NBCUniversal considering to launch a sports cable network, WSJ reports

(Reuters) -Comcast's NBCUniversal is considering launching a sports cable network that would feature content also on its Peacock platform, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. The potential channel, which would be offered in specialized packages, could debut as early as the fall, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter. According to the report, the proposed channel would primarily feature sports that are also streamed on NBCUniversal's Peacock streaming platform. The network would be offered to cable and satellite providers as part of specialty channel packages, the report added. Talks remain at an early stage and a final decision regarding the launch of the network has not yet been made, WSJ said. NBCUniversal and its parent Comcast did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment. The news stands in stark contrast to the broader challenges of the industry, as traditional television continues to lose ground to the rise of on-demand content and the growing trend of cord-cutting. However, live sports remain a bright spot, thriving even as other segments struggle. Meanwhile, NBCU is moving forward with plans to spin off most of its cable networks into a new company, signaling a significant shift in its media strategy. MoreHow to Watch Red Sox vs Phillies Date: Wednesday, July 23, 2025 Time: 7:00 PM ET Channel: ESPN, ESPN Deportes Stream: Fubo (WATCH NOW) The Phillies are trying to keep pace with the Mets, who are currently tied for the lead in the NL East. Their 58-43 record is ten games ahead of the next closest team in the division, but it will likely be a battle with New York till the very end, making every game crucial for Philadelphia. Boston sends Lucas Giolito to the mound to snap their two-game losing streak, and despite moving on from Rafael Devers, they are still right in the middle of a tight AL East race. They have to start gaining some ground on both Toronto and New York to claim the division crown, but they are very much in postseason contention. Keep an eye on Kyle Schwarber, who, after his 3-3 home run performance to seal the All-Star Game victory, has hit three homers since the break, including one yesterday.
