In a significant crackdown, the Punjab Police on Sunday busted a trans-border arms and drugs smuggling module, backed by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, in Amritsar and arrested five key accused. The operation was conducted by the Amritsar Rural Police in coordination with central agencies. The authorities have seized an assault rifle, 90 live cartridges of AK Rifle, ten live cartridges (9 mm), ₹ 7.50 lakh drug money, a car and three mobile phones. In a post on social media platform X, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said: 'In a significant breakthrough, Amritsar Rural Police, in close coordination with central agencies, dismantles a major trans-border smuggling network of sophisticated arms and drug money, operated by Pakistan-ISI backed handlers.' 'The crackdown led to the arrest of five key accused. The seizure includes one AK Saiga 308 assault rifle with 2 magazines, two Glock pistols, 9mm, with 4 magazines, 90 live cartridges of AK Rifle, 10 live cartridges (9mm), ₹ 7.50 lakh drug money, a car and 3 mobile phones,' he added. The seized consignment was intended to be delivered to an associate of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, said the police. 'Preliminary investigation reveals the accused had direct links to Pakistan-based ISI operatives. The intercepted consignment was intended to be delivered to Nav @ Nav Pandori, a known associate of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, indicating a broader terror-gangster nexus,' the DGP said. The accused have been identified as Jobanjit Singh alias Joban, resident of village Rangharh, Gora Singh, resident of village Rangharh, Shenshan alias Shalu, resident of Rasulpur Kallar, Amritsar, Sunny Singh alias Ganna, resident of Rasulpur Kallar, and Jaspreet Singh alias Motu, resident of Mugal Mangri, Rupnagar. Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Amritsar Police nabbed four drug smugglers and recovered 6.106 kg of heroin from them. 'We have arrested four major smugglers and recovered 6.106 kg of heroin from them. Sarabjeet Joban has emerged as the kingpin. He was dropping consignments on the Indian side by identifying various locations for a long time,' said Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.

Srinagar: As Defence Minister Rajnath Singh began the Operation Sindoor debate in Parliament, security forces scored a massive win today by gunning down three Pakistani terrorists in an encounter near Srinagar, two of them involved in the Pahalgam attack in which 26 innocents were murdered in cold blood. Suleman Shah, a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, was identified as the mastermind of the April 22 terror attack that shook the nation. Security sources have confirmed that he was among the terrorists killed in the encounter this morning. Today's operation, named Operation Mahadev, neutralised two other terrorists: Abu Hamza and Yasir. Yasir, too, is believed to be among the Pahalgam killers. According to reports, the security forces acted on an intelligence input and launched the operation in the Mulnar area of Harwan. Reinforcements have been rushed to the area and a combing exercise is on. NDTV has also accessed a photo of the terrorist hideout that was targeted in Operation Mahadev. The visuals show multiple guns in the hideout located deep inside a forest area. According to sources, Carbine and AK-47 rifles, 17 rifle grenades and other arms and ammunition were recovered during the encounter. Security forces suspect that the terrorists were planning a big action in Jammu and Kashmir.

His death marks a major breakthrough in India's ongoing counter-terror operations in the Valley. At least three terrorists were killed in the gunfight, which took place around 20 kilometres from Srinagar's city centre. 'Three terrorists have been neutralised in an intense firefight. Operation continues," the Army's Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said in a post on X. The Dachigam encounter came amid a large-scale manhunt for those behind the Pahalgam massacre. Intelligence inputs gathered over the past month had indicated that some of the operatives involved in the April 22 attack may have moved into the Harwan–Dachigam region. Who Was Hashim Musa? Hashim Musa, also known as Suleiman Musa, was formerly associated with Pakistan's Special Services Group (SSG), the elite commando wing of the Pakistani Army. According to multiple intelligence sources cited in media reports, Musa was later inducted into the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. Security officials believe he was 'loaned" by elements of Pakistan's military establishment to support Lashkar's cross-border operations in Jammu and Kashmir, part of a pattern where ex-special forces personnel are informally embedded within terror groups to enhance their operational capabilities while maintaining plausible deniability. According to an India Today report, Musa had infiltrated Indian territory around September 2023 through the Kathua–Samba sector along the International Border. After entering Jammu and Kashmir, he was active across districts such as Budgam, Baramulla, Rajouri, Poonch, and Ganderbal. These movements were pieced together through intelligence assessments and the interrogation of overground workers (OGWs) detained following the Pahalgam attack. The April 22 Pahalgam Attack On April 22, 2025, heavily armed terrorists opened fire on civilians in the Baisaran Valley area near Pahalgam, killing 26 people. The attackers were equipped with M4 rifles and used tactics that suggested professional military training and coordination. Investigators later identified Musa as the key figure behind the planning and execution of the attack. Suspected Role In Earlier Attacks Reports also link Musa to at least three other attacks in 2024, including in Ganderbal and Baramulla, where security forces and civilians were targeted.
