Geopolitics, trade tariffs, and rapid tech shifts are creating constant unpredictability but this volatility isn't a threat but a growth opportunity, Nasscom president Rajesh Nambiar said on Tuesday at the industry body's People Summit. He believed India is well-placed to lead through its strengths in GCCs, ER&D, and a rising tech-driven talent pool.He opened the Summit with a call to reimagine work and reposition talent for a changing world. In an era defined by uncertainty, he outlined why leadership must evolve, starting with people."We look at the uncertainty as a challenge and then the fact that there is so much opportunity," he said. "This is not going to happen without a significant focus on people and talent becomes the undercurrent for everything. Our business leaders have to be people leaders and our HR leaders will have to be business leaders."He went on to add that culture and engagement will be a driving factor and that hiring should focus on skills, not degrees. Further, he felt that HR tech and AI must be embedded into workflows to stay competitive. Nambiar highlighted that in order to build a hybrid future of humans and AI, learnability should be at the core.At the Summit, Tamil Nadu's minister for Information Technology and Digital Services, P Thiaga Rajan spoke of the intersection of technology, people, policy, and infrastructure. He highlighted the need for AI to touch the lives of citizens at every level of society."The only real long term solution is that it has to be ubiquitous, it has to be comprehensive and it has to be across all levels of interaction," he said. "It can't be only people with smartphones or only people with laptops. It needs to be at every level of society. Technology on the government side and citizens on the other side. It has to be comprehensive."Nasscom also announced the formation of its new Talent Council — a strategic industry-led initiative dedicated to building a future-ready, globally competitive digital workforce . It announced Satish H. C., chief delivery officer at Infosys , as the chair of the Council."With over three decades of experience in global talent strategy, innovation, and digital transformation, Satish will lead the council's efforts to shape a globally competitive, high-trust industry workforce," Nasscom said in a statement.The Council will seek to unlock new models for talent mobility, retention, and models, while driving regionally distributed employability programs. Equally, it aims to strengthen data-driven decision-making by enabling access to exclusive research, market intelligence, and global best practices to shape organisational strategies.

Technical textiles is a potential sector that can see significant investments in Tamil Nadu by Taiwan companies, said V. Arun Roy, Secretary, Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department, Tamil Nadu. Speaking at the Tamil Nadu – Taiwan Technical Textiles Partnership Summit, organised in Coimbatore on Monday by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Tiruppur Exporters Association, and the Tamil Nadu government, he said Tamil Nadu has a large investment from Taiwan companies in electronics and footwear sectors. Since 2021, the Tamil Nadu government and Taiwan companies have signed 21 MoUs for $ 1.4 billion investment in the State. Technical textiles can be the next potential sector. The PM MITRA Park at Virudhunagar will have dedicated area for technical textiles apart from plug and play facilities for technical textiles. Indian and Taiwan companies should look at investing in the park. Garment exports from Tiruppur and Coimbatore districts grew 20% in 2024-2025 to touch ₹45,000 crores and registered 12 % growth in the first quarter of the current fiscal. The exports are expected to increase 15% this year. However, 'future of the textile industry lies beyond the cotton sector. We should tap opportunities in technical textiles and MMF. It offers more opportunities in value addition,' he said. Director of Handlooms, Tamil Nadu, Maheshwari Ravikumar said the Tamil Nadu government was in the process of issuing an order to offer capital subsidy for the processing sector; will introduce courses in technical textiles in polytechnics and industrial training institutes, and was studying the recommendations submitted in a report by Wazir Advisors to promote sportswear and athleisure production in the State. Over 55 one-to-one business meetings were held in Coimbatore on Monday between Indian companies and Taiwan companies as a part of the Summit.

Indian electronic exports hit USD 40 bn: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

He expressed confidence that India is on track to becoming one of the top five semiconductor nations in the world in the coming years, citing its increasing focus on capital equipment and the materials required for semiconductors."In just 11 years, we have increased our electronics production six times. That's a CAGR double digit which any corporate would be envious of. We have increased our exports eight times, crossed USD 40 billion exports in electronics manufacturing, which is a phenomenal pace of growth, something which very few countries of our size have ever seen," the Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology attributed this growth to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and noted that in just about three and a half years, India could design a complete 4G telecom stack. Today, it is installed on almost 90,000 telecom towers, which is more than the network of many countries in the world.

SRM University to develop a green hydrogen car
SRM University of Amaravati, is aiming at develop a 'Green Hydrogen' powered car within the next three years, which will be tested on the National Highway between Guntur and Vijayawada, revealed Dr. D. Narayana Rao, Executive Director – Research of the university. Dr. Narayana Rao told The Hindu, on the concluding day of the two-day 'Green Hydrogen Summit-2025' held at Neerukonda in Amaravati capital city, that the university aims to reduce the cost of producing green hydrogen from the current ₹350 to ₹200 per kilogram in the next couple of years. We also seek to lower the electricity consumption required to produce one kilogram of green hydrogen from the present demand of 50 units to 40 units. As assured to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu during the Summit's inaugural session, the University is committed to engaging all stakeholders in the sector to produce affordable green hydrogen in the State and contribute to developing Andhra Pradesh as a hub for this technology. Transport sector Mr. Narayana Rao further explained that green hydrogen, with its remarkable attributes, such as high energy density has wide- ranging applications in different sectors including transportation. He predicted that in the next three years, hydrogen powered cars, buses, JCBs, trains and airplanes will be a reality in India and globally. He said: 'Today, steel industries worldwide use coal, but, green hydrogen can serve as an excellent substitute. Steel produced using green hydrogen is known as green steel, and European countries now insist on importing only green steel. So, it is imperative for countries involved in bulk production of steel to transition to hydrogen in the coming years.' Pudimadaka hub He explained that the government of India has launched the National Hydrogen Mission (NHM) with an impressive outlay of ₹19,750 crore. The key objectives of NHM are indigenous manufacturing of electrolysers, particularly pressurised alkaline electrolysers, fuel cells, creating job opportunities and to produce 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. These goal present both opportunities and challenges before industry, national research institutions and universities. Aligning with the NHM, the government of Andhra Pradesh has taken swift steps to developing Pudimadaka near Visakhapatnam as a green hydrogen hub. The target set by Mr. Naidu for this hub is to produce 1.5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen and 3 lakh tonnes of green ammonia. Objectives of SRM University Amaravati Dr. Rao explained that, 'The first goal of SRM University is developing a hydrogen powered combustion engine for the car.' He expressed hope that an automobile manufacturer would come forward to develop such a car. He added that, the Ministry of Railways has already developed a hydrogen-powered fuel cell-based train with ten coaches and they will be demonstrating it in September 2025, between the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana.
