Padma Lakshmi Cooking Competition Ordered by CBS for 2025-26 Season

Yahoo17-04-2025
Padma Lakshmi is moving from the world of cable into network television. CBS has ordered 'America's Culinary Cup,' the working title of an upcoming cooking competition series from the former 'Top Chef' host. The series is set to premiere during the 2025-26 broadcast season.
Lakshmi will serve as the creator and executive producer of the series alongside Susan Rovner, CEO of Aha Studios. Rovner was previously the content chief for NBCUniversal, the parent company of Bravo. Contestants for 'America's Culinary Cup' will be invitation-only as the series will challenge some of the nation's most decorated chefs. The competition is specifically designed to test their 'creativity, endurance, presentation, leadership and more,' a press release for the series reads.
'We're inviting elite chefs from across the country to represent their unique culinary style and battle it out,' Lakshmi said in a Thursday statement. 'This competition echoes the thrill of sports and the American spirit as we cheer on our favorite chefs. I'm very excited to work with CBS and partner with Susan on 'America's Culinary Cup.''
The upcoming series is produced by Lakshmi for Delicious Entertainment and Rovner for Aha Studios.
For nearly two decades, Lakshmi has been the face of culinary competition shows. After hosting specials for the British culinary show 'Planet Food,' Lakshmi became the host of 'Top Chef' in 2006. She later departed the series after 20 seasons in 2023 to focus on other creative pursuits. One of those pursuits is Hulu's 'Taste the Nation With Padma Lakshmi,' which aired its second season in 2023. Between 'Top Chef' and 'Taste the Nation,' Lakshmi has been nominated for 16 Emmy awards.
'America's Culinary Cup' marks a pivot for CBS. Historically, the network has rarely prioritized culinary shows. The broadcaster did air the short-lived 'The American Baking Competition' in 2013. But for most of television history, Fox has been the broadcast home for these types of programs.

There are currently no plans to air "Mandy" season 4 in New Zealand but if you are a Brit currently there for work or vacation you can catch the show on BBC iPlayer by using a VPN such as NordVPN. Season 04 Episode 01: "Pretty Woman" - A glamorous stranger convinces Mandy of the importance of the correct paperwork. S04 E02: "Mad Mandy: Fury Road" - Something is holding Mandy back. But what is it? Can she overcome it? Does she even know what it is? Is there anything she can do about it? S04 E03: "Seed" - Mandy's dreams are shattered by the arrival of a mysterious night-time visitor. S04 E04: "Mand On The Run" - An old friend brings a chance of redemption for Mandy, but also misfortune, death, danger and destruction – a heady mix, especially for a Tuesday afternoon. S04 E05: "Wormhole" - For once, Mandy has the perfect job. The hours are fine, the pay is good, the fag breaks are reasonable. There's only one problem: people. Yes, them again. Can Mandy outwit them at last? S04 E06: "It's Not You, It's Mandy" - Mandy is forced to confront a dramatic change to her whole way of life, and she must look for meaning in places where she's either been too tired or too bored to look for it before. The series is now in its fourth series - did you think audiences would take Mandy into their heart as much as they have? No, it's complete surprise to me I think it would just be a pilot that would disappear without trace … Some viewers have reacted to it in unusual ways. I've heard that at least four of them have turned vegetarian after watching an episode of the last series where Mandy gets a job in an abattoir, so that's good. Especially for cows. And what is it, do you think, that keeps them coming back for more? There's nothing else on? I suppose it's always nice, after a hard day's work, to see someone have a worse time that you and still come through without serious mental health issues or HR getting involved. Will Mandy ever be capable to hold down a permanent job? I think that would ruin the whole premise of the series, if she suddenly could do a job realisably well? Nothing would happen! It would just be Mandy sat at a desk. How do you think Mandy evolved as a person through the past four series? She hasn't evolved at all, that's what makes her charming. She's learned nothing. Just keeps making the same mistakes, like all of us. Will you ever have a use for Mandy's leopard print outfit? I wear it whenever I do a big shop. Where does the inspiration come from, for the most obscure situations that Mandy finds herself in? They're all based on absolute fact. A lot of them are inspired by things that have happened to me. I've had a number of jobs that I've been fired from. Some I haven't even lasted an hour in. Acting's about the only job I've lasted more than a week in. So I have to stick with it. Which episode for you is the standout for this series -or is it too hard to pick? There's bits of all the episodes that I think are great. But I can't tell you what they are because they'll spoil it. And also I can't remember them clearly. You made this series a cruelty-free production – what can you tell us about that? We decided to use only cruelty-free make-up products that haven't been tested on animals. We warned all the actors what we were doing and none of them had a problem with it. I think there should be a special logo at the end of the show to prove it. Most of the actors were amazed that some products aren't cruelty-free. Some, well-known brands still test on animals and most people aren't aware of that. Have you ever passed your driving test? If not, good luck finding a driving instructor. No, I haven't passed my driving test. Although I have done 1000s of hours of lessons. I just don't think I'm one of nature's natural drivers. I'm waiting for the self-driving cars to kick in now. John Oliver Says ‘Late Show' Cancellation Is 'Incredibly Sad'

John Oliver is calling the cancellation of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert 'incredibly sad.' While speaking to reporters over the weekend, Oliver was asked his thoughts about the news, which CBS revealed in a surprise announcement on Thursday. More from The Hollywood Reporter What Will Stephen Colbert Do After 'Late Show' Ends? He Has Options David Ellison Met With FCC Chairman in Push to Finalize Approval for Paramount Deal Writers Guild Calls for Investigation After 'Late Show' Cancellation, Citing Bribery Concerns 'Obviously, I love Stephen, I love his staff, I love that show — it's incredibly sad,' the Last Week Tonight host responded. 'I'm partly excited to see what they're gonna do for the next 10 months. It's terrible, terrible news for the world of comedy.' Oliver and Colbert both served as correspondents on The Daily Show — though not at the same time — and are friends, with Oliver having appeared on Colbert's show over the years. Oliver also noted he grew up watching The Late Show in England, when David Letterman was host. 'Late-night shows mean a lot to me, not just because I work in them, because even growing up in England, I would watch Letterman's show, which of course was Stephen's show, and think about what a glamorous world that was,' he said. 'So to have got to have been on Letterman's show and Stephen's show was always one of the most fun things. So it's very, very, very sad news. I look forward to seeing what [Colbert is] gonna do next because that man will not stop.' Colbert shared the show's live audience during the taping of Thursday's show at the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York, drawing boos from the audience. He said he'd been told about the decision the night before. In a statement, CBS said the cancellation was 'purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.' Last Week Tonight, meanwhile, is on hiatus until July 27. Oliver was talking to reporters in Erie, Pa. — home of the newly rebranded minor league baseball team, the Moon Mammoths. The team formerly known as the Erie SeaWolves will play four games under the new moniker, but it's unclear if the name will be permanent. 'This is entirely for the people of Erie and this team to decide now,' Oliver said, according to 'If they want to go back to the SeaWolves, this has been fun. If they want to keep the Moon Mammoths forever, have it.' Erie Mayor Joe Schember declared the day as Moon Mammoth Day and presented Oliver with a key to the city. The new name is inspired by George Moon's discovery of a mammoth skeleton in Lake Pleasant in 1991. Saturday night's game drew a record crowd of 7,070 at UPMC Park. Keith Olbermann pours cold water on claims Colbert was fired for political reasons

Ex-MSNBC host Keith Olbermann has weighed in on whether Stephen Colbert was canceled by CBS for political reasons, throwing cold water on the theory he was axed for his criticism of Trump. "Sorry. That's not what happened here. If it had, they wouldn't be keeping him on until next MAY," Olbermann said in a post on X. CBS announced they'd canceled "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" Thursday, stating that the over 30-year-long franchise would come to an end in May 2026 with no subsequent host taking over following Colbert's departure. The show was previously hosted by David Letterman from 1992-2015. Olbermann authored the post in response to an X user who posted that Colbert's firing was a sign that the United States had descended into fascism. "We are officially at the 'pulling comedians off the air who criticize our dear leader' phase of fascism," the user posted over a picture of the late night host. Following the network's announcement of Colbert's ouster, numerous left-wing politicians and journalists spoke out, alleging that the talk show host was fired for political reasons, speculating that axing Colbert – a fierce critic of President Trump – was an attempt to placate White House officials amid a pending merger between CBS' parent company Paramount and Skydance. "CBS's billionaire owners pay Trump $16 million to settle a bogus lawsuit while trying to sell the network to Skydance. Stephen Colbert, an extraordinary talent and the most popular late night host, slams the deal. Days later, he's fired. Do I think this is a coincidence? NO," Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders posted on X. "If Paramount and CBS ended the Late Show for political reasons, the public deserves to know. And deserves better," Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., wrote on X. CBS settled with President Trump after he sued the network alleging election interference over a "60 Minutes" interview with his 2024 opponent former Vice President Kamala Harris which he alleged was deceptively edited. A clip from the interview, in which Harris was asked about the war in Gaza, was released on "Face the Nation" prior to the "60 Minutes" broadcast and featured the former VP delivering an answer that was widely derided as "word salad." When the interview was finally broadcast, a different, more concise response was swapped in its place. CBS, however, claimed that "The Late Show's" cancellation was due to financial reasons, saying the show lost some $40 million a year. Colbert is No. 1 in the late night timeslot among network talk show hosts (though he regularly comes behind Fox's Gutfeld), averaging around 2.4 million viewers per episode. Overall viewership for late night talk shows has steadily declined in recent years, leading to a decrease in total ad revenues. Colbert was tapped to host the "Late Show" following Letterman's retirement after he hosted the widely acclaimed "Colbert Report" on Comedy Central. Upon taking the reins of the franchise, Colbert eschewed the well-known formula of hosting a show that appeals to the broadest swath of Americans, opting instead for a highly partisan, Trump-critical program. Fox News Digital has reached out to CBS for comment. When former President Joe Biden won the 2020 election, Colbert popped champagne on air and danced, proclaiming his joy in the election result. "Ladies and gentlemen, Joe Biden did it! He's our next president! I'm so happy!" he proclaimed, adding that he cried tears of joy upon learning Trump would no longer be president.
