Gold Rallies Rs 580 To Rs 97,030 In Delhi; Silver Climbs Rs 500
'Gold prices edge higher, but remain under pressure, as softer US PPI and CPI data for April indicate disinflation,' says Abans Financial Services CEO Chintan Mehta.
Gold prices rallied Rs 580 to Rs 97,030 per 10 grams in the national capital on Monday amid strong trends in the international markets, according to the All India Sarafa Association. On Friday, the precious metal of 99.9 per cent purity had closed at Rs 96,450 per 10 grams.
Gold of 99.5 per cent purity climbed Rs 580 to Rs 96,580 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes) on Monday. It had settled at Rs 96,000 per 10 grams in the previous market session.
'Gold prices edge higher, but remain under pressure, as softer US PPI and CPI data for April indicate disinflation. At the same time, the US Treasury yield is approaching 4.5 per cent, extending Friday's rebound after rating agency Moody's downgraded the US credit rating from Aaa to Aa1," Abans Financial Services Chief Executive Officer Chintan Mehta said.
This move has reignited interest in gold, as investors reduce exposure to US Treasury bills and seek a safe haven asset, Mehta added.
Additionally, silver appreciated by Rs 500 to Rs 98,500 per kg (inclusive of all taxes). The white metal had ended at Rs 98,000 per kg on Friday.
Meanwhile, the most traded contract for gold futures rallied Rs 1,182 or 1.28 per cent to trade at Rs 93,623 per 10 grams on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX).
Silver futures for July delivery increased Rs 662 to trade at Rs 95,980 per kg on the commodities bourse.
On the global front, spot gold went up by USD 39.05 or 1.22 per cent to USD 3,241.82 per ounce.
'Focus during the week will be on the US macroeconomic data such as manufacturing/ services PMI, and housing data," Pranav Mer, Vice President, EBG – Commodity & Currency Research, JM Financial Services, said.
The data release will provide more impetus for the US Federal Reserve's future monetary policy cycle.
According to Goldman Sachs, gold will rise to $3,700 per ounce by the end of 2025, as central banks continue to buy tonnes of the precious metal every month.
The commodity is also likely to climb as ETF investors increase their holdings in anticipation of interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve and amid growing recession concerns.
In the event of a recession, Goldman Sachs forecasts that gold could rise to as much as $3,880 per ounce, the investment banking firm said in a note.

According to the official, this project is being sponsored by the Shillong-based North Eastern Council (NEC), a regional planning body, and implemented by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati. The NEC is the nodal agency for the economic and social development of the northeastern region, which consists of the eight states -- Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura while the IIE is an organisation under the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Nagaland University's Kohima campus has been designated as one of the four incubation centres in the northeastern region, the official said, adding that a total of 44 beneficiaries would be incubated in the first batch of incubatees. The 44 beneficiaries include 16 from Arunachal Pradesh, six from Assam, four from Manipur, with the remaining 18 from Nagaland. On-boarding of the incubates would be done in July 2025. Nagaland University Vice-Chancellor Jagadish K. Patnaik said that the varsity is the only Central university in the state, and has been selected to host one of the four incubation centres in the northeastern region under a prestigious Central government initiative. "This opportunity reaffirms the university's commitment to academic excellence and nation-building through innovation, research, and inclusive development. We expect to collaborate with stakeholders across academia, industry, and government to make this endeavour a resounding success," he added. Elaborating on the activities that would be taken up under this initiative, Dhrubajyoti Bordoloi, Coordinator, Entrepreneurship Development Centre and Incubation Centre, of the university, said, "Industry experts and established entrepreneurs would provide mentorship to the incubates. Additionally, an effort has been made to foster an entrepreneurial mindset and intent among the youthful population of the state through the conduct of numerous awareness camps in various institutions and villages." The selection of the incubates was finalised in Financial Year 2024-25 through the 30 entrepreneurship development cells established under the project. A total of 145 beneficiaries were selected by the experts appointed by the nodal agency across the northeastern region, with 44 beneficiaries assigned to the Nagaland University Incubation Centre.

Supreme Court dismisses Byju's settlement plea
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed pleas filed by the BCCI and Riju Raveendran — brother of Byju Raveendran — seeking withdrawal of insolvency proceedings against Byju's and to consider the settlement between the beleaguered edtech company and the BCCI. A Bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadeven refused to interfere with the April 17 order of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) which had ruled that since the settlement proposal was filed after the formation of Committee of Creditors (CoC), it required the approval of the lender's body under the provisions of section 12 A of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. Earlier in February 2025, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) had directed the petitioners to place their settlement offer before the new CoC, in which US-based Glas Trust, the trustee for lenders to which Byju's owes $1.2 billion, is a member. The Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) against Byju's was initiated in July last year by the NCLAT, admitting a Rs 158.90 crore claim from the BCCI as an operational creditor of edtech major. An Interim Resolution Professional (IRP) was also appointed in this matter. Later, a settlement was reached between the parties, and Byju Raveendran approached the NCLAT. The appellate tribunal set aside the insolvency proceedings against Byju's on August 2, 2024, after approving a dues settlement with the BCCI, which had entered into a Team Sponsor Agreement with the cricket body in 2019. This was challenged by Glas Trust before the Supreme Court. A Bench headed by then Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud halted the NCLAT order and directed the BCCI to deposit the amount in question in a separate escrow account till further orders. Meanwhile, Byju's Alpha, a special purpose financing vehicle established by Byju's in the US to receive proceeds of a $1.5 billion Term Loan B, has sued Byju Raveendran, co-founder and his wife Divya Gokulnath for "orchestrating theft of $533 million". Byju's Alpha said that following the $533 million judgment of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware against Riju Ravindran and Byju's ultimate corporate parent in India, the company has now filed a lawsuit against Byju Raveendran, his co-founder and wife Divya Gokulnath, and his consigliere (advisor), Anita Kishore. The lawsuit states that each of them co-orchestrated and executed a lawless scheme to conceal and steal $533 million of loan proceeds (the 'Alpha Funds'), according to a press release. They further stated that "it is clear that Byju, Divya, and Anita deliberately hid the assets of Byju's Alpha and repeatedly were deceptive about the location of the money in order to steal funds rightfully owed to the Lenders".
