Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Yair Lapid, Opposition Leader in the State of Israel, in Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed welcomed Lapid, and the meeting focused on the evolving bilateral relations between the UAE and Israel.
The two sides also discussed key regional developments and the latest updates in the Middle East, including international efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
During the meeting, the UAE top diplomat reaffirmed the UAE's support for international initiatives aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire in Gaza Strip, ensuring the release of all hostages, and preventing further escalation of the conflict in the region.
Sheikh Abdullah also underscored the importance of bolstering efforts to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the need to establish mechanisms that ensure the safe, sustainable, and unhindered delivery of aid to civilians.
Sheikh Abdullah further emphasised the need to work toward a credible political horizon to resume negotiations for a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution. Such efforts, he noted, are essential to reinforcing regional security and stability and to ending the cycle of extremism, tension, and escalating violence.

Two IRGC personnel killed defusing explosives in Iran

Two members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) have been killed while attempting to defuse explosives left over after Israel's attacks in June. The Tasnim news agency, citing a statement from the IRGC, said that "two members of the Guards were killed on Sunday in Khorramabad while clearing the area of explosives left by the Zionist regime's aggression". The Fars news agency also reported on Sunday the death of an Iranian soldier in Yazd, central Iran, from injuries sustained during Israel's strikes on the country. Twelve days of attacks between Israel and Iran, sparked off by an Israeli assault on 13 June, left more than 900 dead in Iran and 28 dead in Israel. A ceasefire between the two countries took effect on 24 June. Hosting Brics, Brazil's president hits out at 'genocide' in Gaza

Brazil's president insisted the world must act to stop what he described as an Israeli "genocide" in Gaza, as leaders from 11 emerging Brics nations gathered in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. "We cannot remain indifferent to the genocide carried out by Israel in Gaza, the indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians and the use of hunger as a weapon of war," President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva told leaders from China, India, and other nations. His comments came as Gaza truce talks between Israel and Hamas resumed in Doha, and as pressure mounted to end the 22-month war, which began with Hamas's October 7, 2023, attacks. Lula said on Sunday that "absolutely nothing could justify the terrorist actions" of Hamas on that day -- which resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people, mostly Israeli civilians. But he also offered fierce criticism of Israel's subsequent actions. Israel's retaliatory campaign has killed at least 57,418 people in Gaza, also mostly civilians, according to the Hamas-run territory's health ministry. The United Nations considers the figures reliable. The Brics gathering includes Israel's arch foe Iran, but also nations like Russia, which have close ties with the country. Brics countries have been in disagreement over how strongly to denounce Israel's bombing of Iran and its actions in Gaza. But one diplomatic source said the text would give the "same message" that Brics delivered last month. Then Iran's allies expressed "grave concern" about strikes against Iran, but did not explicitly mention Israel or the United States. Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is due to visit the White House on Monday for talks with US President Donald Trump, who is pushing to end the war and has said he hopes for a ceasefire deal in the coming week.

Sheikh Mohammed reveals new AI strategy for streamlining services

, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has unveiled a new government strategy under which artificial intelligence will be used to manage resources. The new policy will enable the UAE to make government services easier and faster, said Sheikh Mohammed. "We're proud to launch the UAE Federal Government Strategic Plan 2031 – a new chapter in shaping a smarter, faster and more efficient government," said Sheikh Mohammed, as reported by Dubai Media Office. "This phase focuses on using AI to streamline processes and improve how we manage resources across the federal government. In the past, success was measured by the strength of regulations, the size of teams and the complexity of procedures. "Today, success means making things easier and faster – delivering seamless services and using resources wisely in a complex world," said Sheikh Mohammed, also Vice President. "Tools may change and goals may shift, but one thing stays the same: our commitment to excellence in serving the people of the UAE." Sheikh Mohammed has directed teams across ministries and strategies based on more innovative and flexible foundations, incorporating AI as part of the 'We the UAE 2031' vision, the media office said. The planning cycle will involve 38 federal groups and brings together key public officials, including directors of strategy, future planning and finance. Last month, Sheikh Mohammed announced a National Artificial Intelligence System would become an advisory member of the UAE Cabinet, starting in January next year. 'The world is going through comprehensive restructuring, scientifically, economically and socially and our goal is being ready today for the coming decades and ensuring continuing prosperity and a decent life for the following generations,' Sheikh Mohammed said at the time.
