Hutchinson is currently the betting favorite to win both defensive player of the year and comeback player of the year, via the odds at DraftKings.com.
Hutchinson's defensive player of the year odds of +650 put him just ahead of Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt, Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons and Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, who are all at +700. Garrett has asked the Browns to trade him, and Hutchinson says he and Garrett have talked about the possibility of playing together on the Lions.
Hutchinson's comeback player of the year odds of +200 put him ahead of 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey at +300, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott at +350, Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence at +400 and Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy at +750.
If Hutchinson gets healthy, stays healthy, and plays like he was playing early last season, he could pick up two major awards at the 2026 NFL Honors. And if Hutchinson has a big year, he may not be at NFL Honors, because the Lions may be preparing to play in the Super Bowl.

The Orange and Brown Report's Pete Smith and Lane Adkins report that Gabriel's ahead of Sanders on the team's depth chart because of his playing experience, training camp reps, and most importantly, his passing abilities. 'Gabriel throws the ball about as well as any other quarterback in this draft class. While that specific is very important, it's how he processes, which doesn't lead to mistakes. He is consistent, experienced, and a leader from all accounts,' Smith wrote. 'Gabriel was the quickest read on the board when we had all those guys in. His ability to quickly recognize, diagram, answer questions, and dissect different looks from the defense was impressive, especially being a rookie. '(Gabriel), due to his experience, playing in a few different offensive systems that enabled him to do more mentally as well as physically, seeing much more quality looks defensively, and having played against better competition readied him more than Shedeur (Sanders).' Gabriel's one year of experience in the Big Ten is being touted as the key difference-maker here. And truth be told, Sanders played USC, UCLA, and Oregon during the 2023 season in the Pac-12, so it may ultimately not be that much of a difference-maker. The true difference-maker seems to be the attitudes both players have exhibited since their collegiate careers. Whereas Sanders reportedly came off as brash during pre-draft meetings, Gabriel has been a humble sponge of learning and understanding. Perhaps Sanders would come off as more ready if he had the same outlook on life as Gabriel.
