Billy Napier earned the commitment of Buchholz (Fla.)'s Justin Williams on Sunday, bolstering the Florida Gators' future receiving room.

"BREAKING: Four-Star WR Justin Williams has Committed to Florida, he tells me for @on3recruits," Hayes Fawcett wrote Sunday on X. "The 6'0 190 WR from Gainesville, FL chose the Gators over Florida State, Kentucky, Missouri, & Indiana. 'From the Backyard to The Swamp #GoGators."
Williams is listed as the No. 15 overall athlete in 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2026 class.
"New-age offensive weapon that was a full-time wide receiver, but has since made the transition to running back and will likely get a bulk of his snaps there moving forward as he's a rhythmic mover with excellent contact balance that can string cuts together and extend runs," 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins wrote in a scouting report.

"Should be viewed as a do-it-all utility man that can make an impact in a variety of different ways at the Power Four level. "Likely to find most success in a single-back spread attack that wants to target him out of the backfield."

Williams was a finalist for Florida's Class 6A Mr. Football award. He was chosen as The Gainesville Sun's All-Area Big School Offensive Player of the Year after catching 85 passes for 1,473 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 108 more times for 1,023 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Williams had also visited the Indiana Hoosiers recently. If he sticks to his pledge, he'll follow a class of wideouts that includes Vernell Brown III, Dallas Wilson, and Naeshaun Montgomery.

Packers without pair of Day 3 draft picks due to injury to open training camp
The Green Bay Packers are opening training camp on Wednesday without two of the team's Day 3 draft picks due to pre-existing injuries. According to general manager Brian Gutekunst, fifth-round pick Collin Oliver is dealing with a hamstring injury and could miss a couple of weeks, while seventh-round pick John Williams is still recovering from a back injury that cost him the entire offseason workout program. Both Oliver and Williams opened training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Oliver, the 159th overall pick, missed all but two games during his final season at Oklahoma State after injuring his left foot early in the college football season. He's now dealing with a hamstring injury to open his professional career. Williams, the 250th overall pick, played a full season at Cincinnati in 2024, participated at the East-West Shrine Game and did all the pre-draft testing, but a back injury has kept him from participating throughout the offseason in Green Bay. He'll now miss time to start his first training camp. While his timeline is unknown, Gutekunst included Williams with Christian Watson among a group dealing with more significant injuries. Injury absences for rookies to open training camp can rob a young, inexperienced player of valuable on-field reps and opportunities to earn a role. Neither Oliver nor Williams was expected to be a starter in 2025, but Oliver has a chance to be a pass-rushing specialist who contributes on special teams, and Williams is a collegiate left tackle with an opportunity to be an important backup at guard. Getting on the practice field is the first step for the two Day 3 picks. Another draft pick dealing with an injury is seventh-round pick Micah Robinson, who has a knee injury and was on the PUP list as of Friday, but he was seen on the field for the early portions of Wednesday's practice, suggesting he's been cleared. The only other rookie injured is undrafted running back Amar Johnson, who has a hamstring injury.

Yankees make roster move after bullpen strategy backfires in Atlanta
Yankees make roster move after bullpen strategy backfires in Atlanta originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Yankees' sketchy pitching plan backfired Friday night, and now they need to scramble again to cover themselves. According to The New York Post's Joel Sherman, the team is designating reliever RIco Garcia for assignment after Thursday night's bullpen scramble in Atlanta. Garcia was one of four relievers used in the 8–1 loss, a self-inflicted mess following the All-Star break. The Yankees chose to open the second half with a bullpen game. After four days off. With a rotation already thinned by injury. J.T. Brubaker handled three innings in his debut. Garcia covered one. Ian Hamilton opened. It didn't work. And now the Yankees are short an arm again. This wasn't a surprise. It was preventable. They could have recalled a lengthened starter from Triple-A. Or gone with Will Warren, who last pitched on Sunday. Or Marcus Stroman, who pitched Friday and was lined up on extra rest. Instead, they used four relievers in Game 1 of a road trip and burned enough innings that someone had to go. Garcia was the odd man out. He'd just been picked up last week from the Mets, who DFA'd him as well. He has thrown 15.2 solid innings this year with a 3.45 ERA, but he was always an emergency arm they could cut if they needed to. So now the Yankees are scrambling again. Max Fried has been pushed back to the Toronto series. Cam Schlittler was scratched Friday with arm discomfort, but the Yankees are hopeful they will get him a start in the Blue Jays series as well. And with two games still to play in Atlanta, then a three-game series in Toronto, the Yankees are down to hoping someone steps up. Or steps in. The trade deadline is less than two weeks away, but the Yankees need to get there. Burning through the bullpen on the first day of the second half of the season wasn't a great start. And now they need another arm. Again This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 19, 2025, where it first appeared.

Shane Lowry Curses Royal Portrush after Mishap During Second Round at Open Championship
Shane Lowry Curses Royal Portrush after Mishap During Second Round at Open Championship originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Shane Lowry opened his campaign at the 153rd Open Championship with a steady one‑under‑par 70 in the first round, navigating Royal Portrush's tricky links with minimal drama. In round two, he is one-under par through 14 to sit at two‑under overall. It was on the par‑4 11th hole during Friday's second round that Lowry's frustration boiled over. After watching his drive veer offline, he could be heard shouting, 'No! Don't go left!' The Irishman then let loose, saying, '(Expletive) off. (Expletive) this place,'—a very usual occurrence when Lowry messes up. That outburst may surprise some, given Lowry's deep connection to Portrush. His stunning victory there in 2019 marked the first Open held in Northern Ireland since the 1950s, and the town still honors him with a large mural of his likeness. There is no ill will toward the venue from Lowry—just golf‑course emotions and the raw frustration that comes when a cherished haven turns against you. The afternoon's squalls and heavy rain only compounded the challenge. Sudden downpours and swirling winds left many contenders scrambling, turning what had been a birdie fest into a test of survival. Even Scottie Scheffler, who was on a birdie run, saw his flawless score blemished by a bogey. Scheffler is showcasing one of his best performances in recent weeks. Every step he took on the course, every shot he hit earned him some new fans in this foreign place. He truly showed his calibre as the World No. 1 on Friday. But the unfortunate part is that Lowry's horror of 11 did not just end there. The officials handed him a two-shot penalty after assessing that his practice swing moved the ball from its designated place. He is now even par heading into the story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 18, 2025, where it first appeared.
