Arch Manning: I'm just focused on this season, not the 2026 NFL draft
Asked about his NFL future at SEC Media Days, Manning said that's not even on his radar.
'I'm really just worried about getting through this interview and then getting through the run tomorrow,' Manning said. 'I'm just focused on this year and getting better each day.'
Manning mentioned growing as a leader of the whole team as a top priority for him right now, and indicated that any decision about the draft would be made only after the season.
If Manning still looks like a likely first overall pick at the end of this season, it would be surprising if he returns to college. But both of his first overall pick uncles, Peyton and Eli, exerted a high degree of control over their NFL futures: Peyton made a surprising decision to return to Tennessee in 1997 when he was the most likely first overall pick, instead waiting to become the first overall pick in 1998. And Eli told the Chargers he wouldn't play for them when they picked him first overall in 2004, leading to a trade to the Giants.
Arch Manning has an even better opportunity to control his NFL future because the new landscape in college football means he's making millions of dollars at Texas. If everything isn't lining up to his liking heading into next year's draft, he could be back at Texas, and not in the NFL, in 2026.

Bill Belichick, Robert Kraft continue to be at odds
The recent comments from Patriots owner Robert Kraft regarding former Patriots coach Bill Belichick seemed to suggest a thawing of the frozen-shoulder relationship that has emerged between them. Belichick didn't see it that way. He apparently viewed Kraft's remarks about the hiring of Belichick being the best move Kraft has made as a slight, a diss. A backhanded compliment. Which prompted Belichick to push back with his own thinly-if-at-all veiled comments about Kraft. "I took a big risk by taking the New England Patriots head coaching job," Belichick told ESPN. "I already had an opportunity to be the Head Coach of the New York Jets, but the ownership situation was unstable." Of course, those two statements aren't entirely consistent. Belichick wanted nothing to do with coaching the Jets. So it's not as if he had any interest in the bird in the hand that he surrendered when he flew off to New England. "I had been warned by multiple previous Patriots' coaches, as well as other members of other NFL organizations and the media, that the New England job was going to come with many internal obstacles," Belichick added. "I made it clear that we would have to change the way the team was managed to regain the previously attained success." It's no surprise that Belichick took a negative view of Kraft's comments. Last year, ESPN reported that Kraft had warned Falcons owner Arthur Blank to not trust Belichick, which surely didn't help Belichick's effort to land on his feet in Atlanta. (The Patriots disputed the report.) While taking a shot at Kraft may have given Belichick a rush of dopamine, there's a very real potential consequence to Belichick popping off. Owners who are already reluctant to give Belichick another NFL job can look at his comments about Kraft and conclude that, in time, Belichick will be saying the same kind of things about his next NFL boss. Of course, there seem to be various other reasons for NFL owners to not hire Belichick. The question is whether that vibe will change if/when he can turn a basketball school into a football school.

Super Bowl champion Bryan Braman dies at age of 38 after cancer diagnosis
Bryan Braman, who helped the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl in the 2017 season, has died at the age of 38. Braman's agent said the linebacker, who also played for the Houston Texans, had died on Thursday. He is survived by his two children, aged 11 and eight. According to a GoFundMe page set up to help Braman with his medical expenses, he was diagnosed with cancer in February. The page had raised $88,000 and many of his former teammates had given donations, including JJ Watt, who contributed $10,000. Qualified NFL players are eligible for health insurance for five years after they retire. Braman's final season came in 2017, with the Super Bowl his last ever professional game. Braman joined the Texans in 2011 as an undrafted free agent after stints with Long Beach City College, Idaho and West Texas A&M in college. He soon established himself on special teams and was known for his punt blocking ability. Once such highlight came with the Eagles, whom he joined in 2014, during their Super Bowl run when he blocked a punt by the Atlanta Falcons in a tight 15-10 win in the divisional round. He recorded one tackle in the Super Bowl itself as the Eagles beat the New England Patriots 41-33 to win their first NFL championship since the 1960 season.
