Why Did MN Wild Trade for Vladimir Tarasenko and What Should Fans Expect?

Yahoo2 days ago
Minnesota Wild fans have been waiting a long time for July 1, 2025. For years, tomorrow is supposed to be the day everything changes regarding the future of this organization.
Not only does Kirill Kaprizov become eligible for a long-term contract extension, but the Zach Parise and Ryan Suter buyout penalties are set to mostly fall off the books too.

President of hockey operations Bill Guerin has made it very clear in recent weeks, however, that we shouldn't be hoping too hard for Kirill to ink a deal immediately after the NHL calendar year rolls over. And after what happened Monday, there won't be any big free agent splashes either.

What should Minnesota Wild fans expect from Vladimir Tarasenko
That's because Guerin made a trade today instead, sending out 'future considerations' to the Detroit Red Wings, in exchange for 33-year-old veteran winger, Vladimir Tarasenko and his entire $4.75 million salary next season.
Earlier in his career, Tarasenko was one of the top scoring wings in the National Hockey League. He's scored over 30 goals six times during his 13-year NHL career, including 116 goals and 106 assists in three seasons with the St. Louis Blues between 2014 and 2016.

But in recent seasons, Tarasenko has been a shell of the superstar he was a decade ago. He hasn't scored 30 goals since 2021-22 and last season, Vlad's only in Detroit, he took a huge step back.
In 80 games with the Red Wings, Tarasenko scored just 11 goals and 22 assists, spending a large chunk of his 18:51 TOI on the third line. His 33 points in Detroit last year was the Russian winger's lowest total of any season where he played 20 games or more.
Why did the Wild trade for Tarasenko?
So… why did the Minnesota Wild make the deal for Vladimir Tarasenko? A couple of reasons. First off, Detroit was looking to dump the salary of an incredibly talented player, for essentially nothing in return. Meanwhile, other free agent options would have required more money and more term.
We knew the Wild wanted to add a scoring winger to their arsenal; we figured that would come via free agency. But players such as Brock Boeser, Nikolaj Ehlers and Mikael Granlund would have taken more term and probably dollars than the Wild wanted to invest.

According to Michael Russo (The Athletic), the Wild plan to play Tarasenko on the second line, where he will have either Ryan Hartman or Marco Rossi at center. Guerin hopes that will reinvigorate the 33-year-old's career, and in turn, give Minnesota the high-caliber scoring forward they so desperately desire.
The plan now, per Russo, is for the Minnesota Wild to sit back on the cap space that will remain, after Kaprizov gets his extension, and wait for the perfect fit forward to present himself either before the NHL Trade Deadline or next offseason.
This trade essentially buys them a year to scour the landscape for a winger they do want to invest in via trade or free agency, or further develop from within their deep prospect pool.

Dwight Howard's wife files for divorce just six months after marriage: report

Amber Rose Howard, the rapper and reality star wife of former NBA center Dwight Howard, has reportedly filed for divorce six months after the couple tied the knot. Rose, who goes by the stage name Amy Luciani, filed for divorce on July 1 in Georgia, claiming that the marriage was "irretrievably broken," TMZ Sports reported, citing court documents. The documents also state that Rose is requesting alimony, asking that the marital assets and property be "equally divided." Rose has also removed any pictures of Howard from her social media accounts. Their relationship was made public in December, as they revealed being engaged to each other on Instagram. Rose also released a children's book with Howard as her last name. Rose's reality fame comes from her time on Seasons 11 and 12 of "Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta." She also released an album entitled "Amy's World" in 2023. Meanwhile, Howard spent 18 seasons in the NBA, ultimately putting together a career worthy of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He was an eight-time All-Star, three-time Defensive Player of the Year, and won an NBA title with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2020-21 season. Howard's stardom began with the Orlando Magic, who drafted him first overall out of Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2004. He spent eight seasons with Orlando before joining the Lakers on his first of three stints with the team. Howard also played for the Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers. Howard, who has not publicly discussed the divorce filing, is in the middle of his first season with Ice Cube's BIG3 League. I Recommend This Security Cam to Anyone on a Budget, and Now It's Over 50% Off Today for Prime Day

I've tested dozens of security cameras over the years from brands like Blink, Lorex, Ring, Arlo and more. And no matter which model I'm looking at, one thing always holds constant: A camera with premium features is typically going to come with a hefty price tag. Prices for just a single camera can easily run $200 or even more. So when you're trying to put together a system with multiple cameras, the total cost can get out of hand quickly. But the second-gen Arlo Essential 2K cam surprisingly manages to stand out from the pack, and I recommend it as an affordable security solution for those who are on a budget. For Prime Day today, it's marked down by 53% on Amazon, dropping the price to just $48. That's a seriously good price for a camera that offers many of the same features of Arlo's highest-end models. If you're in the market for more than one security camera, even better, as the two-pack is currently discounted by 58%, bringing the price down to $80 from its usual $190 price tag. What I like about the Arlo security camera While testing the Arlo Essential 2K Cam, I found the indoor-outdoor wireless camera performs well. The 2K resolution helps gather plenty of details, it's highly weather resistant and Arlo's app excels at walkthroughs on how to set up and use the cam. Other common features include two-way audio, color night vision and a built-in siren. Arlo isn't done yet. The cam's integrated spotlight did a great job of lighting up my backyard -- and if you prefer other smart home platforms, it plays well with Alexa and Google Home, as well as IFTTT (no Apple HomeKit support at this time, but it's a possibility). For more, here are CNET's picks for the best home security systems. Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money. Arlo wins at customization in the home security conversation I liked a lot of what the Arlo Essential does but it's not too different from what many other security cameras do -- just surprisingly affordable. I really like Arlo's UI and smart home integration too, with an app that's easy to understand and pop open for a quick look at your home when you're out on the town (and that doesn't even require a subscription). It's the deeper customization features that really impressed me. Those who like to tinker with their home security setup will love the beta-version custom detection options that come with higher-tier subscriptions, in addition to facial and vehicle recognition. I haven't seen custom setups like this on any other security camera before. In my tests, I was able to "teach" the cam AI to recognize when a pet toy appeared on camera or when certain objects were no longer present. I could also use this feature to tell me when the garage door opened or if something valuable (say, a piece of artwork) disappeared. Likewise, the vehicle detection options can tell if a specific vehicle is pulling up to your home. I've never seen anything else like this for those who really want to push their home security to the limits. Arlo's Essential cam is a great deal but keep in mind Arlo's subscription options. Arlo Best July Prime Day Deals 2025 CNET's team of shopping experts have explored thousands of deals on everything from TVs and outdoor furniture to phone accessories and everyday essentials so you can shop the best Prime Day deals in one place. See Now Arlo cams for yourself or others With Arlo's easy and informative setup process, the Essential camera is a great choice even if you or your family haven't tried a security camera before. As long as a user is comfortable trying out a new app and following the instructions, Arlo is an excellent experience. I rate the app and user-friendliness around Blink's level, another one of my favorite camera apps. With indoor/outdoor placement, the camera is also versatile so you don't have to worry about people not finding a place to use it. You could also spend a bit more to upgrade the camera with an extended battery and a solar panel, an effective combo if you want to avoid manually charging the battery as much as possible. It still needs a Wi-Fi connection but this combo is great for out-of-the-way spots like above my garage door or a high point on roof eaves. If you're thinking about getting this Arlo Essential camera as a gift, keep in mind Arlo locks quite a few important features behind its $8-plus monthly subscription, including smart alerts with object recognition and cloud video storage. So while the camera is usable without fees, there's a strong incentive to pay. Arlo does offer a free trial of its services but that could feel like a bait-and-switch to gift recipients who aren't expecting a security camera. If you want to give the cam as a gift, you may want to add some PayPal or Venmo cash to cover at least several months of a subscription. Apple's AirPods Pro 2 are $100 off for Prime Day

Before this year's Prime Day event began, there were already some great early deals on Apple products, allowing you to save on the Apple Watch, iPad, and the MacBook Air. Now we can add Apple's second generation AirPods Pro with USB-C charging case to the list, which is currently down to $149 ($100 off) at Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy, the best deal we've seen yet. The second-gen AirPods Pro improve upon Apple's original pair with much better noise cancellation, sound quality, and onboard volume controls. The latest refresh also ships with a USB-C charging case, as opposed to Lightning. Read our review. The AirPods Pro combine superb audio with excellent ANC, plus they have a transparency mode, which lets outside sounds in, allowing you to hear your environment while still listening to your music. They can even double as FDA-approved hearing aids, thanks to an update in iOS 18, which is part of the reason why they're still our best AirPods overall. Additionally, the AirPods Pro offer up to six hours of battery life with ANC enabled, while the charging case comes equipped with MagSafe, making it easy to place them onto a MagSafe or Qi2 wireless charger. The AirPods Pro feature an IPX4 rating, meaning they should be able to withstand a little water. They also offer deep integration with other Apple products, allowing for automatic device switching. For instance, if you're listening to music on your Mac and pick up your iPhone to watch a video, the AirPods Pro will automatically switch from the Mac to the iPhone. Apple's AirPods 4 are the latest update to its base-model wireless earbuds. The hard plastic buds should have improved audio quality and spatial audio with head tracking for the first time. Read our review. If you don't like the sealed feeling of the AirPods Pro 2's silicone tips, the AirPods 4 are also on sale at Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy, with the standard model without ANC matching its all-time low price of $89 ($30 off). Additionally, the AirPods 4 with ANC are down to $119 ($60 off) at Amazon and Walmart, which is by far the lowest price we've seen. The open-ear wireless earbuds offer many of the same features as the premium AirPods Pro 2, including conversation awareness, personalized spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, and transparency mode. The revised AirPods Max are much like the original model from 2020, but now with new color options and a USB-C port instead of Lightning. Finally, the AirPods Max with USB-C are down to an all-time low of $399 ($150 off) at Amazon, beating the previous best price by $50. While they haven't been updated for nearly five years (aside from the addition of USB-C in place of Lightning and some new colors), the AirPods Max remain Apple's most luxe headphones, offering top notch comfort and sound quality. At $150 off, the high price tag is a little easier to stomach. Sign up for Verge Deals to get deals on products we've tested sent to your inbox weekly.
