How police caught alleged childcare predator Joshua Brown - as terrified parents reveal warning signs

Daily Mail02-07-2025
The shock arrest of a male childcare worker charged with over 70 child sex offences against infants and toddlers followed a police probe into an 'associate'.
Joshua Dale Brown, 26, from Point Cook in Melbourne 's southwest, is facing more than 70 charges including sexual penetration of a child, producing child abuse material and recklessly contaminating goods to cause alarm or anxiety.
The latter charge refers to allegations that he added bodily fluids to children's food.
The alleged offending occurred during his time at Creative Garden Early Learning Centre Point Cook, where he worked between October 2021 and February 2024.
It has now been revealed that police made a breakthrough in their case against him after they investigated the alleged sexual crimes of Michael Simon Wilson.
Detectives investigating a rape allegation against Wilson 'uncovered evidence' of alleged acts committed by Brown, the Herald Sun reported.
Wilson was charged with 45 child sex offences on Wednesday, including bestiality, rape and possession of child abuse material, according to court documents.
It is understood Brown and Wilson are known to each other, but Wilson's charges are not related to any childcare centre and involve different alleged victims.
Wilson is due to appear in court in September on the same day as Brown.
An investigation into Brown was launched after the execution of a search warrant at his home, which allegedly uncovered a cache of child abuse material.
Up to 100 officers, some of whom were parents, were part of the probe following Brown's arrest in May, The Herald reports.
'It has been an emotion bomb,' one police source said, describing the task of contacting the 'next-level devastated' parents and guardians of suspected victims.
'We pulled out all stops. It hasn't stopped since then,' they said.
Although Brown was arrested on May 12, his identity and alleged crimes could not be published until police sought to have a court suppression order lifted on Tuesday.
Within a few hours, an alarming warning was issued by the Victorian Department of Health and Victoria Police, urging the parents of 1,200 children to have them tested for infectious diseases.
The transmission of STIs via food is low but is increased if a person has cuts or sores.
Chief Health Officer Dr Christian McGrath said on Wednesday the testing was out of an 'an abundance of caution... (but) there's not no risk, which is why we are making this recommendation'.
Brown worked at 20 childcare centres over an eight-year period between January 2017 and May 2025.
Police and health authorities have contacted 2,600 families of children who attended the centres in a bid to have them tested for unnamed diseases.
Alarmed parents have spoken to the Herald Sun, with a father slamming the Point Cook daycare centre for 'brushing off' concerns he raised over his son, who has autism, and will need to be tested.
His son allegedly came home from the centre with bruising from an unknown source in 2023. There is no suggestion Brown had anything to do with the alleged incident.
'The [centre] said there were no concerns ever raised with them in the past,' he said.
'That's bulls*** because I didn't raise the sexual assault thing but I raised with them the marks that were left on my son's arms.'
Another distraught father, Justin, said he had to figure out that his seven-year-old daughter was one of those impacted through news reports.
'To go and get a f***ing seven-year-old girl STI tested, and trying to remain calm. I could burst into tears now,' he said.
Father-of-three, Satbir, recalled the moment he handed his daughter over to be cared for by an alleged sex offender at the Point Cook centre.
'I dropped off my child into his hands a couple of times,' Satbir told AAP.
'I'm a bit worried, I (need) to find out everything. I've seen him in the classroom where I dropped my children.'
A spokesperson for G8 Education, which oversees Creative Garden Point Cook, told the Herald it was taking all allegations very seriously.
'At Creative Garden Point Cook, the safety and wellbeing of all children in our care is our highest priority,' they said.
'We are committed to providing a safe environment for all children and families.'
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan on Wednesday announced an urgent review of childcare safety would be prioritised by her government.
Daycare centres will be required to enforce a ban on personal devices from September 26 or be subject to a $50,000 fine.

Radio star Ben Fordham airs a WILD theory about what Wayne Carey was doing just before viral 'toilet tryst' video of him in a trendy Melbourne wine bar

Radio presenter Ben Fordham has aired a wild theory about Wayne Carey's now viral alleged 'toilet tryst' video, claiming he was trying to save a woman's life. The North Melbourne great found himself at the centre of a media storm last week after a video went viral online, allegedly appearing to show a woman leaving a bathroom at a trendy Melbourne bar, with another man following her out of the bathroom around 20 seconds later. A voice behind the camera can be heard saying: 'She looks embarrassed.' Another adds: 'What's he doing in there?' Carey, 54, has found himself at the centre of a media storm over the viral video, having confessed he was the man in the clip, before blasting the actions of the two women who appear to have taken the video. He branded it 's*** shaming' and 'cyberbullying', while both parties have insisted that there was no 'tryst' in the toilets. They have both contacted the police and are seeking legal advice on the matter. However, 2GB presenter Fordham issued a hypothesis, claiming that the Melbourne woman in the video, who has since been identified as Kate Aston, had been choking on some food, with Carey entering the bathroom to help her. The woman at the centre of a viral video with AFL star Wayne Carey has hit out at those who filmed her and revealed that she's suffered 'immense distress'. Kate Aston, 38, (pictured) a Melbourne marketing and communications executive, has described the dissemination of the clip as 'a deliberate act of bullying' 'He could have been down there in the latrines and he could have heard someone in a state of distress... she might have been choking on a prawn or an oyster or some piece of food,' Fordham told ex-Geelong player Sam Newman on his podcast You Cannot Be Serious. 'The Duck [Carey] might have rushed in there and given her the Heimlich manoeuvre. 'And he might have been pumping and thrusting to remove the prawn or the obstruction or whatever it might have been. He might have saved a life. 'That's the way I view the Duck. I view him as the good guy, not the bad guy.' Carey, who had been enjoying an evening out at the Toorak Cellars bar in Armadale, in Melbourne's south east, fumed about the viral video on the You Cannot Be Serious podcast last week, claiming: ''I've gone through disbelief, sadness, I've gone through anger. 'This woman has been thrown into this just because I could kick a footy.' Newman had asked Carey prior to recording the podcast whether there was truth to the allegations that were being levelled against him. 'I said: 'I'd like to ask you, did you know the girl before you went down to the latrines, and were you in the same, not the same cubicle, were you in the same enclosure and speak to her there?' Newman said. 'He said: 'No.' I said: 'Good, well, that's good'. 'She was there, she walked out. He said: 'When I walked out, I was on the phone, I was on the phone to my partner, Jess'. 'And I said: 'Good.' It looked as though. He said there was absolutely nothing in it. The girl has said there was nothing in it, so he's taking umbrage at being accused of being a home breaker.' Carey took a brief trip to Sydney last week, jetting to New South Wales on Thursday before flying back on Saturday. He cut a relaxed and unbothered figure as he was pictured walking through the airport. Fordham, meanwhile, replied to Newman's revelation, revealing he sympathised with Carey's frustrations over the matter. 'If that's the case, I can understand why he's filthy, but I just couldn't, I was waiting for you to ask him the question on the podcast, and I don't know whether you just didn't want to become roadkill because he was on a bit of a mission at the time... but that's what I wanted to know. 'Only because he spoke about it for so long and he was going into so much detail. I just couldn't help but wonder, did you happen to step into the same cubicle or not? Obviously, he didn't. Two people can walk out of the [toilet] in the same direction a few minutes apart, having spent no time together at that location. Fordham added: 'It's a gross invasion of someone's privacy and it affects a lot of people.' The AFL great (pictured with Jessica Paulke) revealed he has contacted police about the footag and is now going to 'let the law take care of it' Carey, meanwhile, hit out at the two people who had filmed him leaving the toilets. He added that he knew who the people were but was reluctant to reveal their names, adding that he would be leaving the matter to his lawyers and the police. 'You've got two vile, disturbing, probably p**sed women who want to do this to another woman,' Carey said last week on the podcast. 'That's all they were doing, they were s**t-shaming another woman. 'If two men had done that, they would be raked over hot coals; it would be the biggest story going around.' Carey added that his partner, Jessica Paulke had spoken to the woman in the video to offer her support to Aston over the matter. 'But because it's two women doing it to another woman … you don't know what's going on, this other woman has had all sorts of stuff going on in her life, I've since found out. 'You talk about vile and disgusting, what they've done and who they have affected by a few sh**s and giggles drinking their chardonnay, sitting up there, doing whatever. Aston posted a lengthy statement to Instagram Stories on Thursday, revealing that she had initially chosen to remain silent to protect her professional reputation and her mental health, but has come forward to hold those who released the video to account 'Once again, I'm not going to name them because that would be as pathetic as what they are. I'll let the law take care of it.' The woman who was seen leaving the bathroom before Carey has also blasted the 'malicious actions' of the two women who took the video clip. Kate Aston, 38, is a marketing and communications executive from Melbourne. She described the clip as 'a deliberate act of bullying' in a lengthy statement on Instagram. She revealed that she had chosen to stay silent to protect her reputation and mental health. But over the weekend, she spoke out to hold those who had published the video to account. 'Overnight, from footage of me simply exiting a toilet at a bar, I've had my life turned upside down,' she wrote. 'What has happened to me could happen to anyone, and no one should have to go through what I have been put through – the damage, the speculation, the impact on my livelihood, all from the malicious actions of a small few.' 'At a time when I am navigating my next career move and visibility matters, the personal and professional toll has been immense,' she said. 'Who would want to employ me, date me, be associated with me? What's left now that this has all happened to me?' Carey, who made 244 appearances for North Melbourne between 1989 and 2001 before moving to play for Adelaide for a season, added that he would be following through 'to the tenth degree' to ensure that a penalty is handed down. Carey, meanwhile, has explained that he will be seeking legal advice on the matter 'I could sit there and film people going in and out of toilets. Who does she think she is, Morgan Freeman narrating a wild life (documentary)? (She said) "I heard people grunting like pigs". Completely made-up crap. 'These two women think it's OK to film her and slut shame her online and post it online. What sort of penalty should these two women get? 'We are speaking and we will follow this through to the tenth degree. I'm blown away that women in their 40s could think this was a good idea. How would they explain this to their children? 'This is women being cruel to another woman. They have shamed another woman and it is so wrong. It happens far too often and it doesn't get called out. Men do it and it gets called out as it should. Let's see where this goes to from here.'

One of Australia's most elite all-girls schools is rocked to its core after principal's heartbreaking announcement about a Year 9 student

An elite private all-girls Catholic school in Brisbane has been rocked after the tragic death of a student. All Hallows' School closed on Tuesday after making the heartbreaking announcement that Year Nine student Stella Medeiros-Hodge had died by suicide over the weekend. The school has a reputation as one of the best girls schools in the country with parents charged upwards of $35,000 each year for domestic students. Catherine O'Kane, the principal of the 159-year-old institution, revealed the tragic news in an email sent to parents, caregivers and the extended school community. She said Ms Medeiros-Hodge had died on Sunday, in the correspondence sent on Tuesday afternoon. 'It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of Stella Medeiros-Hodge, Year 9 (Whitty), overnight on Sunday,' the email, seen by the Courier Mail, read. 'Stella is the beloved daughter of Lucia and Iain and the sister of Isabella (Year 12).' Understandably, the email told the school community Ms Medeiros-Hodge's family had requested privacy. 'I know that our community will respect this with the utmost sensitivity and care,' the email continued. Ms O'Kane encouraged parents to speak with their daughters about how they can sensitively react to the news on social media. On Tuesday, parents were seen arriving at the school to pick up their children at 2pm. The principal warned parents to monitor their children's interactions with social media and the amount of time they spend online. She also confirmed the scheduled school activities that have been postponed and did not say when they would resume. Spirit week activities would not continue as normal and the Adderton house mass scheduled for Wednesday morning has been postponed. Ms O'Kane said she expected other scheduled activities will continue as planned. Details of Ms Medeiros-Hodge's funeral will be shared with the school community when available.

‘Daddy, police!': new video shows Ice arresting Oregon father at preschool

New video has been released showing masked immigration officers taking an Oregon father into custody while dropping off his child at a Portland-area preschool last week. In four clips obtained and verified by Oregon Public Broadcasting, Mahdi Khanbabazadeh, a 38-year-old chiropractor, can be seen asking US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) agents to 'wait for three minutes' because 'there is a baby in the car'. Minutes later, after the child exited the vehicle, the video shows Ice officers breaking the driver's side window of the car. Three of the video clips were taken by a dashboard camera; in the fourth, taken by a witness, an onlooker can be heard saying, 'This is not OK, and no one here will identify themselves to me,' as masked agents handcuff and escort Khanbabazadeh away. Ice arrested Khanbabazadeh outside Guidepost Montessori school in Beaverton, Oregon, on 15 July. A citizen of Iran, Khanbabazadeh entered the United States on a student visa. Ice said the father had overstayed his visa, but his family told local news that he was married to a US citizen and had already applied and interviewed for a green card. Immigration agents stopped Khanbabazadeh en route to the daycare, but allowed him to proceed to the school to drop off his child. There, Ice said he 'stopped cooperating, resisted arrest and refused to exit his vehicle'. In a statement, the agency added that officers broke a window, and the child was not harmed. Khanbabazadeh is still being held at a detention center in Tacoma, Washington, according to local news reports. Oregon Public Broadcasting obtained the four video clips from Khanbabazadeh's family. The first video, recorded at 8.17am, shows Khanbabazadeh rolling down his window during a traffic stop. As Khanbabazadeh searches for his identification, his child says, 'Daddy, police!' from a carseat in the back of the car. In response to a question about where they are headed, Khanbabazadeh says, 'Daycare.' In the second video clip, recorded at 8.32am from what appears to be the daycare parking lot, Khanbabazadeh implores officers to wait. 'There is a baby in the car,' he says. 'Is it hard to wait for three minutes?' Sign up to This Week in Trumpland A deep dive into the policies, controversies and oddities surrounding the Trump administration after newsletter promotion In the third and final dashcam video, recorded at 8.42am, an Ice officer breaks through the driver's side window of the car. Khanbabazadeh can be heard saying, 'I am getting out,' to which a masked Ice agent replies: 'Well, you should have done it already.' In the final video, taken by a bystander, Ice agents handcuff Khanbabazadeh while he is pressed up against his car. Khanbabazadeh can be heard saying, 'I'm Iranian, I don't know why they are doing this. I am a doctor,' while the bystander says, 'No one here will identify themselves.' Randy Kornfield, who was dropping off his four-year-old grandson at the Montessori school during Khanbabazadeh's arrest, told Oregon Public Broadcasting that one of the school's teachers asked the officers to identify themselves. He said the agents got into a heated exchange with the teacher at the request. This was the first confirmed federal immigration arrest at an Oregon school, according to local news. Local and state leaders, including Beaverton's mayor, Lacey Beaty; the Oregon governor, Tina Kotek; and Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, condemned the arrest.
