As per estimates, Delhi's 20% population, or nearly 50 lakh people, live in more than 675 slums, spread over nearly 7.5km—0.5% of 1,483 square kilometres of the city's total area. Delhi Development Authority has already initiated an exercise to conduct a detailed survey of central land encroached upon by slums.
Officials said the district-wise mapping of JJ clusters will include key details such as the existing land use, number of households and the total area of each cluster. The survey of all vacant lands under DUSIB's jurisdiction will include details such as the size of land parcels, whether it is encroached, availability and condition of boundary walls, current land use status and use of the land as per the approved layout plan.
"This comprehensive assessment will help in identifying viable land parcels for future housing development initiatives and monetisation," said an official.
To provide the slum dwellers with pucca houses, the govt came up with Delhi Slum and Jhuggi Jhopri Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, 2015, stressing in situ rehabilitation.

LG VK Saxena along with PWD minister Parvesh Verma on Tuesday inspected two key locations in the city — ITO in central Delhi and Sadbhawana Park in northeast Delhi. LG and PWD minister Parvesh Verma at ITO, inspecting the drain work. (RAJ K RAJ /HT PHOTO) Officials said the PWD has implemented technical upgrades at the location this year, such as work on drains and water disposal system. 'ITO will no longer represent waterlogging but stand as a model of sustainable solution. I congratulate our engineers and officials who worked tirelessly on the ground to make this transformation possible,' Verma said. The team then visited the DDA-developed Sadbhawana Park, which has an advanced sewage treatment plant and it treats wastewater collected from the surrounding area, which is then reused for the park's irrigation and maintenance. 'Sadbhawana Park offers a glimpse into Delhi's future — where development goes hand-in-hand with environmental sustainability. Through this STP, not only are we scientifically treating wastewater, but we are also saving thousands of litres of potable water every day. This is an inspiring model that we plan to replicate in other parts of Delhi as well,' the LG said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will launch the campaign, which will be carried out from 6am to 6pm, by planting saplings in Ayodhya and Azamgarh. Out of 37 crore saplings to be planted on the day, 18.6 crore will be of teak and sheesham, 10.8 crore will be of fruit-bearing varieties, and 5.8 crore will be medicinal saplings like drumstick and neem. The govt will give two moringa saplings each to the families identified as beneficiaries under the zero-poverty programme, under the 'Sahjan Bhandara' programme. 12.5 saplings to be planted under MGNREGA
Lucknow: Yogi govt is set to plant over 12.5 crore saplings across UP under MGNREGA scheme, not only to enhance greenery, but also to generate large-scale rural employment, under 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' theme, encouraging people to dedicate a tree to their mothers. Lakhimpur-Kheri was given highest plantation target of 42 lakh saplings, followed by Sonbhadra and Hardoi. Around 1.9 lakh plantation sites were identified, with plant species selected on the basis of local climatic and geographical conditions. The initiative ensures plantation efforts are sustainable and tailor-made for each location. In a special move to promote nutrition and health, each beneficiary of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (rural) will receive two drumstick (moringa) saplings, known for medicinal and nutritional value and enhance nutritional security for rural families. TNN The rural development department was given lead role in implementing the campaign. A comprehensive plan was developed, encompassing aspects such as site selection, plant variety, irrigation, care and protection. Success of the campaign will be measured not by plantation numbers alone, but by survival and growth of the saplings. For this, arrangements for regular watering, tree guards, maintenance and monitoring will be made under MGNREGA.
