Student allowed to retake exam after saving friend's life
A STUDENT in China's Shandong province who missed his Gaokao exam after trying to save his friend's life, was allowed to retake the paper, China Press reported.
On May 10, Jiang Zhaopeng from Shandong Urban Services Vocational College was making his way to the exam venue when his classmate on the same e-hailing ride suffered a seizure and stopped breathing.
Jiang immediately administered CPR as the e-hailing driver rushed them to the nearest hospital.
Despite the Gaokao being an important exam which could determine a student's entire academic and career future, Jiang said he did not regret his actions.
Many netizens pleaded with the Education Ministry for Jiang to have a second chance at taking the exam.
Their pleas were heard as the Shandong Provincial Education Admissions Examination Institute allowed Jiang to retake the exam last Sunday.

The daily also reported that the 22-year-old first placed RM4,478 in an online investment platform which offered lucrative returns in just 24 hours.
He realised he had been scammed after finding out that the platform charged exorbitant fees to withdraw his investment.
With the help of a friend, the student contacted a lawyer from Hong Kong who claimed he was able to recover the money.
The student followed the lawyer's instructions and transferred a total of RM23,700 to a local bank account before realising he had been scammed.

However, the accused's lawyer, Revin Kumar, appealed for the court's discretion to grant one, submitting that his client had fully cooperated during the investigation and was willing to comply with any additional conditions imposed. "The accused is currently undergoing treatment for bipolar disorder at a private clinic and is on prescribed medication. He is also prepared to surrender his passport and report to the police as required,' he said. The court subsequently allowed bail at RM20,000 with two sureties. SHAH ALAM: A foreign student who allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend in the neck has claimed trial at the Sessions Court here. Chinese national You Wei, 22, was accused of causing grievous hurt by using a weapon to Wu Jalin, 20, on the second floor of a private university in Subang Jaya at 6.30pm on July 14. According to the charge sheet, You stabbed Wu, also a Chinese national, on the left side of her neck with a knife, which could have caused death. The charge, under Section 326 of the Penal Code, was read out to him in English before judge Norazlin Othman. If convicted, You faces a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine or whipping. DPP Nurul Sofea Jaysal did not propose any bail for the accused pending an Immigration Department review. His passport is valid until Oct 31, 2026. In mitigation, You's counsel Revin Kumar said his client had a mental health condition. "He receives bipolar disorder treatment at a private clinic," said Revin, adding You had been remanded for seven days since his detention on July 14. The court then granted You bail of RM20,000 with two sureties and to report once a month. He was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court and not to harass the victim or any prosecution witness. Norazlin then set Sept 17 for case mention.
