DJ Akademiks hits back at Charlamagne Tha God over Drake, iHeartMedia, and UMG Lawsuit
Charlamagne addressed the situation on The Breakfast Club, poking fun at Akademiks' dedication to covering the case.
In response, Akademiks watched the clip on his livestream, calling out Charlamagne and The Breakfast Club for being owned by iHeartMedia and dismissing the idea that Drake's petition lacked merit.
"It's absolutely untrue that Drake dropped the petition because there was nothing there," Akademiks stated. "The reality is Drake was asking iHeart for information, documents, and possible payments that could prove they were getting paid by Universal." He also pointed out that the FCC's probe into iHeartMedia for alleged payola practices played a role in the decision.

Drake's legal battle with Universal Music Group (UMG) remains ongoing. The rapper has accused UMG of boosting Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us" to damage his brand amid contract negotiations, a claim the label has denied.
Beyond legal issues, Drake has also faced a tough week on the charts. His tracks "Gimme a Hug" and "Nokia" have dropped out of the Billboard Hot 100's top 10, while Kendrick Lamar's "Luther" continues to hold the No. 1 spot. Akademiks blamed a lack of radio airplay and label support for Drake's declining chart positions.
As the Drake vs. UMG saga unfolds, Akademiks remains vocal about what he sees as industry manipulation, while Charlamagne continues to push back on his takes.

Nicki Minaj brings up Drake while reigniting tension with SZA
Nicki Minaj continued her public feud with singer SZA this week, making a series of controversial remarks online, including an eyebrow-raising comment about rapper Drake. The tension between the two artists stems from Minaj's suspicion that SZA supported her former manager, Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) president Terrence "Punch" Henderson, amid one of Minaj's earlier outbursts. In a now-viral tweet, shared by Akademiks TV, Minaj alleged that she was Drake's original choice to appear alongside Sexyy Red on the track 'Rich Baby Daddy' from his For All the Dogs album. 'I wonder if she know I turned down being on the 'shake dat a** for Drake' song,' Minaj wrote. 'He wanted me & Sexy on it... I said I want to wait for PF2 for me & him to do a Dricki song so it felt more special.' Nicki Minaj reveals Drake originally wanted her and Sexyy Red to be on 'Rich Baby Daddy,' but she turned the offer down, wanting her and Drake to collaborate on her album. Nicki continues violating SZA. — Akademiks TV (@AkademiksTV) July 17, 2025 Minaj didn't hold back, further insulting SZA with an inflammatory statement. "Now that silly goose still out here shaking dat a** for Drake every day. After swallowing his b-lls. Allegedly. Oh Mza give it up," she added. Though she did not provide evidence for the claims, the comments quickly drew attention due to their graphic and personal nature. Drake and SZA previously dated briefly in 2009, as mentioned in the 21 Savage track 'Mr. Right Now,' according to Complex. SZA has not directly responded to the latest accusations but recently addressed Minaj's earlier insults, writing on X, 'I don't give a fck bout none of that weird sht you popping... Y'all have blessed night!' Minaj also directed criticism at other industry figures this week, including Jay-Z and Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez. She even contacted the FBI after interpreting comments made by TDE affiliate MackWop as a potential threat during a livestream.

Josh Peck can't believe Drake & Josh got away with wild Oprah moment
In a recent interview, former Nickelodeon star Josh Peck opened up about one of the wildest moments from his early TV career, the now-infamous Drake & Josh episode in which his character runs over Oprah Winfrey. The episode, titled Josh Runs Into Oprah, first aired in 2006 and quickly became one of the most talked-about storylines from the show. 'To this day, I'm amazed it made it past the script stage,' Peck said. 'It's just insane, the whole plot centers on me hitting Oprah, and somehow that was fine.' Looking back, Peck says the idea felt bizarre even then, but no one expected it to become such a cultural flashpoint. 'It was such a wild concept, even by early 2000s sitcom standards,' he added. 'But I think that's what made it so memorable. We were doing slapstick comedy, and it just went there full-on.' Now 37, Peck has transitioned into more mature roles and podcasting, but moments like that episode continue to follow him online. 'It's weird how much that scene still circulates. I'll randomly get tagged in memes where people are just shocked we hit Oprah with a car,' he said with a laugh. Despite the absurdity, Peck says he has no regrets. 'I'm proud of what we did, but man… we really hit Oprah with a car.'

'Pretty Little Baby' singer Connie Francis passes away
Legendary singer Connie Francis has passed away at the age of 87. Her close friend and label president, Ron Roberts, confirmed the news on Facebook late Thursday, July 16, writing: 'It is with a heavy heart and extreme sadness that I inform you of the passing of my dear friend Connie Francis last night.' The announcement came just weeks after Francis had shared that she was hospitalized for 'extreme pain' and undergoing tests. Francis, born Concetta Franconero in Newark, New Jersey, rose to fame in the late 1950s with hits like 'Who's Sorry Now?,' 'My Heart Has A Mind Of Its Own,' and 'Where the Boys Are.' In 1960, she became the first solo female artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 with 'Everybody's Somebody's Fool.' Her global popularity was boosted by her multilingual recordings and appearances on iconic platforms like American Bandstand and The Ed Sullivan Show. Though her music career was groundbreaking, Francis also endured a series of personal hardships. She survived a rape in 1974, lost her voice temporarily due to nasal surgery, and tragically lost her brother to a mafia-related murder in 1981. Mental health struggles followed, leading to multiple involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations, which she later revealed were misdiagnosed. Despite these setbacks, she staged comebacks, advocated for victims' rights alongside Ronald Reagan's administration, and raised awareness for trauma recovery through partnerships with Mental Health America. Francis was married four times and adopted a son, Joseph Garzilli Jr. Reflecting on her life in 2017, she said she hoped to be remembered 'not so much for the heights I have reached, but for the depths from which I have come.' She is survived by her son.
