Irish champion jockey's admission as he faces ban
The Irish champion jockey was aboard Windlord in the Listed Gala Stakes for his principal backers Juddmonte when it seemed he used his whip eight times during a tight finish – a number that's allowed in Ireland but not in Britain.
With the UK's Flat racing rules capping the use at six, his incident is set for review by the British Horseracing Authority's whip committee next week, which could lead to a potential 14-day ban.
Such disciplinary action might put Keane's chance to ride Field Of Gold in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood at risk, depending on the timing of any suspension.
"I'd imagine (I will be suspended) but it's my own fault," Keane admitted.
"I'm so used to eight (strikes) as it is at home, I just have to abide by the rules here.
"That's the only way I can put it, I know six is the amount over here but when I was in a ding-dong battle, I suppose it just went out of my head unfortunately.
"It's unfortunate but it's my own fault."

GAA to investigate after confusion over final score of Tipperary-Kilkenny game
THE GAA ARE set to investigate after confusion emerged over the final score of today's All-Ireland senior hurling semi-final between Tipperary and Kilkenny. Tonight the GAA confirmed the official score was 4-20 to 0-30 in Tipperary's favour and acknowledged the confusion with the GAA set to await the full report from referee James Owens 'in order to establish how the initial mistake occurred'. The confusion centred around a Noel McGrath shot in the 70th minute into the Hill 16 end which was waved wide by an umpire. The scoreboard in Croke Park increased Tipperary's tally from 4-20 to 4-21, but no white flag was raised. It transpired to be Tipperary's final score of the game with a Jordan Molloy Kilkenny point the only additional score. Advertisement Tipperary boss Liam Cahill and his Kilkenny counterpart Derek Lyng both revealed afterwards that they believed Kilkenny were chasing a three-point deficit towards the end of the game. That position contributed to Kilkenny's approach of chasing a goal with both Eoin Cody and John Donnelly taking shots to try to find the net on separate occasions. ***** The full statement reads: 'The GAA can confirm that the official score at the end of the Tipperary v Kilkenny GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship Semi-Final was 4-20 to 0-30. The GAA acknowledges there was confusion over the final score. The CCCC is awaiting the full referees report in order to establish how the initial mistake occurred.' 14-man Tipperary defeat Kilkenny in dramatic All-Ireland semi-final clash
The 42 Reports from Croke Park Tipperary 4-20 Kilkenny 0-30 TRAILING ON THE scoreboard by a point and then hit by the dismissal of forward Darragh McCarthy, Tipperary's prospects seemed on the slide in today's All-Ireland semi-final. Yet they hung in contention and stunned Kilkenny to advance as substitute Oisin O'Donoghue crashing home a terrific 69th minute goal. That pushed Tipperary ahead and they defended heroically in injury-time, Robert Doyle blocking a John Donnelly shot on the line late on, as they set up a final meeting with Cork on 20 July. Robbie Keane reacts to Mikey Johnston talk live on Brazilian sports show
Robbie Keane has told a Brazilian sports show that Ireland winger Mikey Johnston can be a hit at Serie A leaders Flamengo. Ferencvaros head coach Keane was called out of the blue by his former Inter Milan teammate Vampeta, a co-host of Jovem Pan Esportes. The pair were signed around the same time in the summer of 2000, and both left that winter - Keane to Leeds United on-loan and Vampeta to Paris St Germain. Keane, with 14 appearances, played twice as many games as his Brazilian pal. The call began with Vampeta asking Keane how he was, before passing the phone over to co-host Pilhado, who quizzed the former Ireland skipper in English. Keane added that Johnston was getting 'better and better' as a player. Johnston was on Saturday linked with a sensational €6m move to Flamengo, who are currently top of the Brazilian Serie A. West Brom are currently in Austria for a pre-season training camp, but Johnston has not joined his teammates, according to the latest reporting in the Express and Star. Baggies officials are working on the potential move and Johnston is expected in Brazil this week to finalise the deal. It would be a most remarkable transfer, with Johnston becoming the first Irish player to line out in Brazil's top-flight. Keane last week was involved in another surprise move by a Boys in Green star, when he signed Callum O'Dowda to his Hungarian champions from Cardiff City. Here's how the conversation with Jovem Pan Esportes went… Vampeta: 'Hello Keane, amigo, how are you?' Robbie Keane: 'How are you?' Vampeta: Fine Keane: Yeah, are you good? Vampeta: Yes, good man. Keane: How are you my friend? Vampeta: Fine. One minute please. Pilhado: Hi, I'm Vampeta's friend, how are you? Let me ask a question. We are in a programme in Brazil live, I want to know, do you know Mike Johnston, a striker from Ireland? Keane: Yeah, Michael, he's a winger, a left-winger, he's really small and fast. Pilhado: (Translates answer) But let me ask you something, he is a good name for Flamengo, a Brazilian team here? Keane: 'I'm with my Brazilian (fades out, but likely referring to Ferencvaros assistant coach Leandro de Almeida)... The fans will like him, because he is really fast and skillful. Pilhado: 'Do you think he is a good player for a big team in Brazil? Keane: 'Yeah, I think he is getting better and better. Also, he is a good guy. Pilhado: 'Thank you so much. Vampeta tells me he loves you.' Keane: 'Tell him I love him.' Pilhado: 'Roberto Carlos is with us also.' Keane: 'Ah, Roberto, my best friend. I love him.' Pilhado: 'Thank you so much.' Keane: 'Ciao guys.' You can watch the exchange here...
