M-League to take a break to help Harimau Malaya
The Malaysian Football League (MFL) said that the M-League, scheduled to start on Aug 8, will take a short break during the CAFA Cup, thus allowing the national team to call up the best available players for the tournament.
MFL acting chief executive officer Shazli Shaik said: "Since the CAFA Cup takes place just before the Fifa window, we are giving way to the national team.
"We know that assembling the national team will involve players from major clubs such as Johor Darul Ta'zim, Selangor and possibly Sabah and KL City.
"Priority will be given to the national team, and during that period, there will be no league matches," he said.
The CAFA Nations Cup will feature eight teams, including 2026 World Cup qualifiers Iran (world No. 18) and Uzbekistan (No. 57). The other expected participants are Oman (No. 77), Kyrgyzstan (No. 103), Tajikistan (No. 104), Turkmenistan (No. 142), and Afghanistan (No. 160).
Shazli stressed that the national team's agenda would not disrupt the M-League, as no fixtures will be postponed to accommodate Harimau Malaya.
"There's no issue of postponement as the league calendar is yet to be released. We've taken the national team's request into consideration to ensure it doesn't interfere with league proceedings.
"In the past, such requests were made while the league was already ongoing. We're now in constant communication with the national team."

They had already been in control before that and it felt like England's best hope was for complacency from their opponents. The best example of that came with the game still goalless, when Spain goalkeeper Cata Coll played a careless short pass to Laia Aleixandri in her own area. Lauren Hemp was alive to the opportunity and pounced, but Coll made the save. Yet even at 1-0 England were still in the game, and they took their chance in the 57th minute when Kelly crossed from the left for Russo to level. England – with more fans on their side in the crowd of 34,203 – sensed yet another comeback win was on the cards, and it took Coll's fingertips to keep out a Kelly effort midway. The game continued into extra time, and from there to the gripping tension of penalties, in which Beth Mead's first kick for England was saved after she was forced to retake. Kelly a fitting hero in England's gritty Euro victory
IT almost felt like football fate when Chloe Kelly stepped up to the penalty spot on Sunday against Spain, with the chance to make history for England in clinching their second consecutive women's European Championship title. The 27-year-old, who had been doubtful to make Sarina Wiegman's Euros team only six months ago, did her trademark run-up, lifting her left leg and skipping onto her right, before launching a powerful shot into the top corner. 'Incredible game of football. I just came onto the pitch and wanted to make something happen,' Kelly said. 'Of course, taking the penalty, I actually missed three in training yesterday, (but) it's the belief in this squad, I'm really proud to be English right now and proud to be part of an amazing group of girls.' Kelly was the hero in England's 2022 victory at Wembley, scoring in extra time before famously twirling her shirt above her head in celebration. She came to the Lionesses' rescue several times in Switzerland, scoring in the shootout in their quarter-final victory over Sweden, and smashing home her own rebound of a missed penalty against Italy in the semis. Red Giants battle Asia Warriors to stalemate
PETALING JAYA: Selangor drew 0-0 against the Asia Warriors, led by Japanese legend, Keisuke Honda, in a friendly match at MBPJ Stadium today. The match also served as the unveiling of Selangor's 2025-2026 M-League squad. Among the fresh faces in the Red Giants' lineup were Willian Lira, Moses Raj, Picha Autra, Chrigor Moraes and Zach Clough. In the ninth minute, Selangor captain Faisal Halim nearly created a goal with a pinpoint cross to Lira who forced a save from Asia Warriors' veteran goalkeeper Made Wirawan. The 44-year-old Wirawan suffered a knee injury in the 12th minute, and was replaced by Yoo Jaehoon. Selangor's best chance came in the 55th minute when Sharul Nazeem Zulpakar, who replaced Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar at halftime, spun and unleashed a low shot, only to be denied by Yoo. Asia Warriors suffered another blow late in the game when Daisuke Sato was stretchered off in the 78th minute.
