US: Leaders of women's sexual wellness firm, OneTaste, convicted in forced labour trial
The prosecutors argued that the two women ran a scheme for years that groomed individuals, many of them victims of sexual trauma, to do their bidding.
They further claimed that Daedone 57 and Cherwitz, 44, used economic, sexual and psychological abuse, intimidation and indoctrination to force OneTaste members into sexual acts that they found uncomfortable or repulsive, such as having sex with prospective investors or clients. Followers were told to perform questionable acts as a way to obtain 'freedom' and 'enlightenment' and to demonstrate their commitment to OneTaste's principles. Also, they did not pay promised earnings to the members-turned-workers and even forced some of them to take out new credit cards to continue taking the company's courses.
In her closing statement, Assistant US Attorney Nina Gupta said that the defendants "built a business on the backs" of victims who "gave everything" to them, including "their money, their time, their bodies, their dignity, and ultimately their sanity."
Meanwhile, Daedone's defence team cast her as a "ceiling-shattering feminist entrepreneur" who created a unique business around women's sexuality and empowerment. Cherwitz's lawyer argued that the witnesses who testified were not forced to do anything. When they did not like the organisation anymore or wanted to try other things, she said, they simply left. "The fact that they are regretting the actions that they took when they were younger is not evidence of a crime," she said.
OneTaste began in San Francisco in 2004 as a self-help commune that viewed female orgasms as key to sexual and psychological wellness and interpersonal connection.

Syria arms depot blasts kill 12, wounds more than 100
DAMASCUS: A series of explosions killed at least 12 people and wounded more than 100 at a weapons depot in northwestern Syria on Thursday, a monitor said. "Multiple blasts at a weapons and ammunition warehouse belonging to the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) killed at least 12 people and wounded more than 100 in Maaret Misrin, in northern Idlib province," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Those killed included a woman and a child, said the Britain-based monitor, which relies on a network of sources on the ground. The TIP is a jihadist group active in the Idlib region made up of Uighur fighters who joined the Syrian civil war to fight against former president Bashar al-Assad. Syria's health ministry had reported four deaths and 116 wounded in the blasts, in a preliminary toll published by the official news agency SANA. Authorities did not immediately say what may have caused the explosions. AFP images showed a huge plume of white smoke over the town, where several children were among the injured.

With the addition of two more countries to the visa-on-arrival list for Indians, the country now also has visa-free access to 59 countries. As per a report by news agency IANS, the ranking reflects the number of destinations that passport holders can enter without a prior visa. Malaysia, Indonesia, the Maldives, and Thailand are some countries that offer visa-free access to Indian passport holders. Countries such as Sri Lanka, Macau, Myanmar, etc., offer visa-on-arrival (VOA). The rankings, based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), show that Asian countries are on the rise in passport power, with emerging economies like India, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and China closing in on traditional heavyweights like the US and the UK. This trend is reflected in IATA data, as Asia-Pacific airlines led global air travel growth in the first five months of 2025 with a 9.5 per cent increase. (With inputs from agencies)
