Zumba row: Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen strikes a different note
KOZHIKODE: Differences of opinion have emerged within Muslim organisations over the ongoing controversy surrounding zumba sessions in schools, with Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen (KNM) state president T P Abdulla Koya Madani striking a different note.
In a veiled reference to the remarks by some leaders of feeder organisations of the Samastha Kerala Jem-Iyyathul Ulama and Wisdom Islamic Organisation (WIO), Madani said religious scholars should have shown more maturity before making public statements. He said the scholars should refrain from making statements that create divisions in society.
'Those who spark communalism should understand they won't be able to contain it. Instead of resolving real issues plaguing Kerala's public and higher education sectors, they are indulging in controversies that distract (people) from basic concerns,' Madani said after inaugurating the KNM state workers' convention in Kozhikode on Sunday.
He said: 'There should be no attempts to create sectarian divide among children in public schools under the pretext of the zumba controversy. Religious leaders must show greater maturity and avoid the approach that sow divisions in society.'
WIO general secretary T K Ashraf ignited the controversy by opposing the introduction of zumba in schools.

But None Of This Matters Because all these political and cultural hurdles are rendered irrelevant by a single, immovable legal reality: Article II, Section 1 of the US Constitution 'No person except a natural-born Citizen… shall be eligible to the Office of President.' That's it. That's the end. Zohran Mamdani was born in Uganda in 1991 to non-American parents. He became a US citizen only through naturalisation in 2018. In constitutional law, that is checkmate. What Does 'Natural-Born' Actually Mean? It means citizenship at birth without naturalisation. Born on US soil? Eligible. Born abroad to American parents? Eligible. Born abroad to non-American parents and later naturalised? Never eligible. It's why Elon Musk, despite his billions, memes, rockets, and political sway, can never be President. It's why Arnold Schwarzenegger, despite governing California and marrying into the Kennedy dynasty, could never run for President. And it is why Zohran Mamdani, no matter how viral his campaign reels become, can never stand before the Capitol with a hand on the Bible. Are There Loopholes? Only one: amend the Constitution. Congress has tried. In 2003, Senator Orrin Hatch proposed the 'Equal Opportunity to Govern Amendment' to let naturalised citizens run. It failed. Every such attempt has failed. The Founders wrote this clause to keep 'ambitious foreigners' out of the presidency. Two and a half centuries later, it remains unbending. The Final Frame Zohran Mamdani may yet become Mayor of New York, where vibe is policy and charisma is budget. He may enter Congress, where his Urdu-poetry-infused TikToks on housing justice will collect millions of views. He may even become a national progressive icon. But President? Never. Not because he is socialist. Not because he is Muslim. Not because he is brown. But because he wasn't born in America. The Constitution does not care about ideology, faith, or skin colour here. It cares only about place of birth. Because Article II is the one text no filter can soften, no algorithm can rewrite, no insurgent movement can overthrow. His revolution may be vertical, captioned, colour-graded in Mira Nair hues. But it will never be inaugurated.

Telangana MLA T Raja Singh quits BJP, objects to appointment of new state party chief
Telangana MLA T Raja Singh on Monday resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party, expressing 'shock and disappointment' at media reports saying that former Member of Legislative Council N Ramachander Rao was set to be the next state party chief. Singh, the MLA from the Goshamahal constituency in Hyderabad, said in a letter to current Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy that the decision disappointed 'lakhs of karyakartas, leaders and voters who have stood by the party through every high and low'. He said that some individuals, driven by personal interest, appeared to have misled the BJP's central leadership, and claimed that this risked causing avoidable setbacks to the party. 'This is not about personal ambition, this letter reflects the pain and frustration of lakhs of loyal BJP karyakartas and supporters who feel sidelines and unheard,' Singh said. The Goshamahal MLA, however, said he remained committed to the ideology of Hindutva, and that he would 'continue to raise my voice and stand with the Hindu community with even greater strength'. In August 2022, he was briefly arrested for allegedly making disparaging remarks about Prophet Muhammad. However, the court had ordered his release, saying that the police did not follow proper procedure during his arrest. The BJP suspended Singh for the remarks in August 2022, but reinstated him in October 2023. On December 3, 2023, he went on to win his third term as an MLA from Goshamahal. Even when he was suspended from the party, Singh had engaged in hate speech against Muslims multiple times. In January 2023, the MLA urged Hindu women not to befriend women who wear the burqa. The MLA insinuated that Hindus now face danger from Muslim men as well as women as he said: 'There was a time when we faced danger from Aftab, but now there is danger from Ayesha as well. It is this Ayesha that introduces [Hindu women] to Aftab.' In March, Singh was once again booked making inflammatory remarks against Muslims during an event in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district. At the event, held on March 10, Singh had made derogatory references towards Muslims and also claimed that India will be declared a Hindu nation by 2026. At another rally in March organised to support the renaming of the city of Aurangabad in Maharashtra, Singh had asked Hindus to take action if they find cases of 'love jihad'. The city was officially renamed as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar in September.

AIMIM To Join Team Opposition In Bihar Polls? What Asaduddin Owaisi Said
New Delhi: As the political temperature in Bihar rises months ahead of the Assembly polls, the NDA and the Opposition camp are holding frenetic negotiations over seat-sharing. Against this backdrop, AIMIM's Asaduddin Owaisi has said he does not want an NDA government in Bihar and the party has spoken to leaders in the RJD-Congress Mahagathbandhan on the alliance subject. The Hyderabad MP pointed out that "nothing came out" of similar attempts in the last election. The Congress has, in the past, accused the AIMIM of being the BJP's 'B team' and said its contesting polls indirectly helps the BJP. It is also significant that Mr Owaisi's support base in the minority community can potentially upset the Muslim-Yadav combination RJD relies on. Also, Mr Owaisi had gained huge popularity over his public remarks in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor and this can potentially benefit the AIMIM in this election. In an interview with news agency ANI, Mr Owaisi said AIMIM's Bihar unit chief Akhtarul Iman has spoken to leaders of Mahagathbandhan. "Our state president, Akhtarul Iman, has spoken to some leaders in the Mahagathbandhan, and he has categorically stated that we do not want the BJP or NDA to come back in power in Bihar. Now it is up to these political parties that want to prevent the NDA from returning to power in Bihar. Five years ago, I had also tried it personally. Nothing came out of it." "This time, our state president is trying. But it is up to them. We will be contesting elections in Seemanchal and outside Seemanchal also. If they are not ready, I am ready to contest everywhere. Wait for the time to come. It is too early to announce the exact number (of seats)," he said. In the 2020 polls, AIMIM surprised by winning five of the 20 seats it contested. Four of its MLAs later joined RJD, but the poll performance still showed the party had gained political heft in Bihar. The AIMIM contesting separately has the potential to harm the Opposition alliance by splitting the minority vote, a key factor in the election. The BJP-JDU is looking to retain power in the upcoming polls, as smaller allies such as Chiraj Paswan's LJP (Ram Vilas) are posturing to crack a good seat-sharing deal. The RJD and the Congress, on the other hand, will be looking to return to power. Jan Suraaj, a political front led by former poll strategist Prashant Kishor, is also in the fight this time.
