Home Safe? Snap Map Will Let Your Friends and Family Know With Alert

CNET24-07-2025
"Let us know when you're home." How many times have you heard that from friends or family at the end of the night, but forgotten to follow up when you get through the door? Snapchat has added a feature to its popular Snap Map that will take care of it for you.
The messaging app launched a new feature on Thursday called "Home Safe," which will alert friends and/or family that you're home safely even when you forget to do so. It's ideal to let folks know when you're back from a vacation, a night out or a long drive.
With location sharing already part of Snapchat's Family Center hub, the new "Home Safe" feature will also be great for parents to get alerts to know when they're kids are home in one piece.
How Home Safe Works
First, tap your Bitmoji on Snap Map and then "My Home" to set your home location. Then, open the chat conversation with a friend or friends who you want to alert when you get home, tap the map icon and then the "Home Safe" button. Later, when you arrive back home, your friend or friends will get a one-time alert in the chat conversation that you've made it home with no problems.
Remember that alerts can only be sent to contacts with whom you are already sharing your location, and the "Home Safe" notification will only be sent once. You will need to go through the process again for future alerts. Also, remember that location sharing on Snap Map is turned off by default.
In May, Snapchat announced that their user base for Snap Maps topped 400 million monthly active users.
Snapchat's "Home Safe" is a welcome addition to its app, and it's one of several apps that can help make others aware that you are safe, including:

Top analyst warns on MicroStrategy results ahead of earnings

Top analyst warns on MicroStrategy results ahead of earnings originally appeared on TheStreet. Strategy (Nasdaq: MSTR), formerly MicroStrategy, is expected to report its financial results for the second quarter of 2025 after market hours on July 31. Strategy is the largest public corporate holder of Bitcoin. The company's Bitcoin stack of 628,791 coins is currently worth more than $74 billion. The firm's executive chairman and co-founder Michael Saylor urged anyone interested in Strategy or Bitcoin to join the earnings call at 5:00 p.m. EST. Zacks, the investment research firm, said it expected the Bitcoin treasury firm to report $112.15 million in Q2 revenue, hoping for a 0.64% rise year over year (YoY). Zacks expected Strategy's earnings per share (EPS) to record a loss of $0.12 per share. There are several factors, such as the Donald Trump administration's announcement to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve, more regulatory clarity, Bitcoin's recent rally, and institutional and corporate adoption of the king coin, that go in favor of Strategy, the analysis mentioned. However, it added, "Bitcoin's inherent volatility, along with Strategy's stretched valuation, makes the MSTR stock a risky bet ahead of the second quarter of 2025."Let's look at the company's performance in Q1 2025. Strategy recorded a total revenue of $111.1 million, a decline of 3.6% YoY. In Q1, it reported a gross profit of $77.1 million, operating expenses of $6 billion, and loss from operations of $5.921 billion. As of March 31, it had cash and cash equivalents of $60.3 million. The MSTR stock, which closed at $395.04 on July 30, has grown more than 35% year-to-date (YTD). In contrast, Bitcoin, trading at $118,315.66 at press time, has only grown 25% YTD. Clearly, the leading Bitcoin treasury firm has outpaced Bitcoin itself — at least in YTD timeframe. Calpine agrees to power CyrusOne data centre in Texas

Calpine has reached an agreement with CyrusOne to provide 190MW of power to its new data centre in Bosque County in the US state of Texas. The project, entailing a $1.2bn infrastructure investment, will be positioned adjacent to the Thad Hill Energy Center. Named DFW10, the campus is currently under construction and scheduled to become operational by the fourth quarter of 2026. CyrusOne's new campus is backed by investment companies Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), part of BlackRock, and KKR. The initial phase of the data centre campus will span more than 190,000ft², with scaleable capacity to accommodate future expansion needs. The facility will incorporate climate-neutral initiatives, water conservation measures and biodiversity protection strategies while maintaining readiness for Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid emergencies. Calpine corporate development executive vice-president Rick Peña stated: "We're excited to be a partner in this project to deliver cutting-edge data centre infrastructure to Texas, bringing jobs, innovation and economic growth to the region. "This first-of-its-kind project establishes Calpine as a leader in reliable, scaleable power solutions for hyperscale customers, leveraging our world-class fleet and powered land capabilities (PLC) along with a suite of products and services to support both customer needs and grid reliability across ERCOT and beyond. "For decades, Calpine has been the premier power solutions provider for industrial-scale customers who need unwavering reliability, scaleable capacity and proven operational expertise. "Our world-class fleet is designed to support fast-paced development and PLC, along with the substantial data centre load currently served by our affiliate, Calpine Solutions, puts those capabilities to work for hyperscale customers on the cutting edge." CyrusOne will use Calpine's newly developed PLC suite of products and services. With 9,000MW of generation capacity and a wholesale and retail platform in ERCOT, Calpine can deliver up to 400MW to data centres in Bosque, Texas. The PLC solution combines scale, reliability and generation capacity, making it ideal for large-load, mission-critical users such as data centre operators. CyrusOne chief operating officer John Hatem stated: "We're proud to be part of this landmark project, which combines dedicated power and data centre expertise to deliver a unique, mission-critical solution to our customers. "As AI drives unprecedented data demand, this campus demonstrates our commitment to delivering scaleable, reliable infrastructure for our Intelliscale customers while supporting grid reliability for consumers and businesses in Texas and beyond." In January 2025, Constellation announced plans to acquire Calpine in a cash and stock deal valued at an equity purchase price of $16.4bn. The transaction is anticipated to be finalised by January 2026.
