Cheapskate or rebel with a cause – toll dodger in Beemer has opinions divided
A video shared by the Malay Mail (@malaymail) on X showed a brazen and successful attempt at avoiding paying toll. A blue BMW is captured on dash cam video of tailgating a car just to avoid paying the highway tax.
Did the driver of the blue BMW run out of credit on his TnG (Touch 'n Go) card or misplaced his wallet? Or was it a deliberate act of defiance?

Opinions were divided over the antics of this extremely frugal driver. Some commenters were inclined to label the toll dodger as nothing but a cheapskate.
One lamented the mentality of such entitled road users who wanted free use of facilities.
The premium marque had sucked up all the funds, cried a few, obviously poking fun at the drivers' misplaced priorities – cash for luxury vehicle but not toll.
One claimed that he would slow down on purpose so that the tailgating offender got a bump from the beam to teach the toll dodger a lesson.
However, a few saw it as a rallying cry of defiance against highway concessionaires.
Some commenters blamed weak enforcement of the law for encouraging such behaviour. Stiffer penalties including heavier fines (from the current RM300 or even a penalty of 10 times the existing toll amount) and even time behind bars would be a good deterrent.
Suffice to say, many believed the offender should just be named and shamed with the number plate fully exposed (instead of purportedly blurred).
At the end of the day, this is breaking the law. At the moment, failing to pay highway tolls can result in fines and, potentially, a criminal offence.
Currently, toll evaders can be fined between RM2,000 and RM5,000 upon conviction under the Federal Roads (Private Management) Act 1984. A new law is proposed to make toll evasion a criminal offense as part of the multi-lane free flow (MLFF) system implementation.
Such toll dodgers will need to be prosecuted and made an example of if any future barrier-free plan is to work.
In the meantime, let's hope this BMW driver is enjoying his 15 minutes of infamy. – July 17, 2025

Advertisement 'To resolve this matter, the Kelantan state government calls for a thorough and comprehensive investigation to ensure that no party becomes a victim of misunderstanding, slander, or public judgement before the truth is fully established. 'If investigations confirm that the police's actions were justified and based on facts, stern measures should be taken against those involved,' he said in a statement here. 'Conversely, if the NGOs' and individuals' claims are proven true, corrective steps must be taken. The principle of justice must prevail,' he added. However, he insisted that anyone planning potentially controversial events to seek proper approval from authorities. He added that if participants were from outside Kelantan, this should be clarified to protect locals from undue blame. 'Transparency is essential to prevent baseless assumptions and unwarranted judgement within society,' he said. Fadzli's remark came as some locals blamed the media and the police for casting Kelantan in a bad light by falsely claiming that a 'gay sex party' had taken place in the state. On Friday, the MAC confirmed that it conducted a night outreach session here on June 17 under the Differentiated HIV Services for Key Populations model. MAC said the session was in collaboration with Kota Jembal Health Clinic and part of a strategic approach introduced by the Health Ministry. It said the session was held from 8pm to 2am and had reached over 70 high-risk individuals, with services scheduled outside office hours to improve accessibility. This comes as a coalition of civil society groups had also urged Kelantan police to revise their statement on a June 2025 raid of an alleged 'gay sex party' here, which they clarified was in fact a health outreach event. BMW teases hardcore track-focused M2 package for 2025

Police probing death of Form 1 student in Sabah, says Fadhlina

She said the Ministry of Education (MoE) was fully cooperating with the authorities regarding the incident involving the female student. 'The ministry's top management and I visited the family at the hospital to ensure their needs are met and their welfare is taken care of. 'The Sabah Education Department (JPN) has also provided immediate assistance to the family, including in terms of psychosocial support,' she said in a Facebook post today. Fadhlina appealed to the public to refrain from speculation that could hinder the investigation and to respect the family's privacy.
