Live Nation ‘making adjustments' at Toronto's Rogers Stadium after fan complaints
Live Nation Canada says it is incorporating fan and community feedback and 'working closely' with city officials, transit operators and emergency services.
Some fans who attended a concert by K-pop group Stray Kids on Sunday evening said it took up to two hours to exit the stadium, as the venue and transit services from Downsview Park seemed ill-equipped to handle the throngs of people coming in and out of the show.
Live Nation Canada also says it is aware that fans felt their seats move in the upper grandstands during the concert, but says that is 'expected as part of the design of the venue,' which 'exceeds' international safety codes.
James Pasternak, a city councillor whose ward includes the area where the stadium is located, was set to meet with Live Nation Canada and landowner Northcrest Developments this morning to discuss possible solutions.
Rogers Stadium is gearing up to host British rock band Coldplay next week for four performances taking place between July 7 and 12.

The AI-171, bound for London's Gatwick, crashed shortly after taking off from the Ahmedabad International Airport on Thursday. The airline said only one out of the 242 people on board survived the crash. There were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national on board the crashed plane. Miraculously, one person, a British national of Indian origin, survived the crash, airline authorities said. The aircraft was piloted by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a Line Training Captain with 8,200 hours of flying experience, assisted by First Officer Clive Kundar, who had logged 1,100 flying hours. According to Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. It made a Mayday call to ATC, but thereafter, the aircraft did not respond to the calls made by ATC. Immediately after departing Runway 23, the aircraft crashed outside the airport perimeter. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi arrived in Ahmedabad on Friday morning, took stock of the site of the Air India plane crash and then proceeded to the Civil Hospital in the city to meet with those injured in the mishap that took place a day ago. Excitement mounts as the Oasis reunion tour prepares to kick off in Cardiff
LONDON (AP) — Oasis is due to take to the stage in Cardiff, Wales on Friday, kicking off a hotly, and somewhat anxiously, anticipated reunion tour. The return of the Britpop-era rockers after a 16-year hiatus is a major moment for fans. Will it be a storming success? Definitely maybe. Predictions are tricky when it comes to Noel and Liam Gallagher, the sparring siblings who give Oasis its charisma, and its volatile chemistry. 'That's one of the attractions about Oasis — they bring this element of risk,' said author and music journalist John Aizlewood. He said the 'alternative aura that they have cultivated with the age-old pop story of fractious brothers' is part of the band's appeal. Unless the brothers' combustible relationship derails proceedings, two nights at Cardiff's 70,000-capacity Principality Stadium on Friday and Saturday raise the curtain on a 19-date Live '25 tour in the U.K. and Ireland. Then come stops in North America, South America, Asia and Australia, ending in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Nov. 23. Founded in the working-class streets of Manchester in 1991, Oasis released its debut album, 'Definitely Maybe,' in 1994 and became one of the dominant British acts of the 1990s, releasing eight U.K. No. 1 albums and producing hits including 'Wonderwall,' 'Champagne Supernova,' 'Roll With It' and 'Don't Look Back in Anger.' The band's sound was fueled by singalong rock choruses and the combustible chemistry between guitarist-songwriter Noel Gallagher — a Beatles and glam rock-loving musician with a knack for memorable tunes — and younger brother Liam, a frontman of compelling swagger and style. Then and since, the brothers have often traded barbs — onstage, in the studio and in interviews. Liam once called Noel 'tofu boy,' while Noel branded his brother 'the angriest man you'll ever meet. He's like a man with a fork in a world of soup.' Oasis finally split in 2009, with Noel Gallagher quitting the band after a backstage dustup with Liam at a festival near Paris. The Gallagher brothers, now aged 58 and 52, haven't performed together since, though both regularly play Oasis songs at their solo gigs. They long resisted pressure to reunite, even with the promise of a multimillion-dollar payday — though Liam sounded more open to the idea. The singer told the Associated Press in 2019 that Noel 'thinks I'm desperate to get the band back together for money. But I didn't join the band to make money. I joined the band to have fun and to see the world.' Now they have agreed on a tour that will see them joined — if reports are right — by former Oasis members Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs and Gem Archer on guitars, bassist Andy Bell and drummer Joey Waronker. The announcement of the U.K. tour in August sparked a ticket-buying frenzy, complete with error messages, hours-long online queues, dashed hopes and anger at prices that surged at the last minute. Some fans who waited online for hours at the Ticketmaster site complained that they ended up paying 355 pounds ($485) for regular standing tickets instead of the expected 148 pounds ($202). The ticketing troubles sparked questions in Britain's Parliament, where Arts Minister Chris Bryant criticized 'practices that see fans of live events blindsided by price hikes.' Britain's competition regulator has since threatened Ticketmaster — which sold some 900,000 Oasis tickets — with legal action. Tickets for the U.K. shows sold out in hours, with some soon offered on resale websites for as much as 6,000 pounds ($7,800). That suggests major pent-up demand, both from the original fans — a male-dominated cohort now well into middle age — and from a younger generation. No plans have been announced for Oasis to record any new music, and the tour is being presented as a one-off. Aizlewood said it's an opportunity for Oasis to 'tend the legacy' of the band, and remind people of the power of the Oasis brand. 'There should be a sense of huge joy and life affirmation about these shows. And I think if they can just play it right, then that can be a massive burnishing of their legacy,' he said. '(There is) this enduring love for Oasis — and love means money.'

Vancouver's Metro Theatre celebrates 60-plus years in Marpole
Housed in the former home of the Marpole Movie Theatre, a venue first opened in 1932, the Metro Theatre has been entertaining Vancouver theatre audiences for 60-plus years. Operated by the non-profit Metro Theatre society, its art deco design and vintage marquee catches the eyes of commuters crossing over the Arthur Laing Bridge to YVR airport and Richmond. Many aren't aware of the venue's history, which includes giving birth to the bestselling 1969 book The Peter Principle: Why Things Always Go Wrong by writers Raymond Hull and Laurence J. Peter. A plaque commemorating the two meeting after seeing a play deemed 'atrocious' and coming up with the concept for their work skewering corporate culture is mounted on a street light pole right outside the theatre's front doors. Acquiring and renovating the derelict movie house, which had been shuttered since 1955, took 11 companies including White Rock Players, Vagabond Players, North Vancouver Community Players, West Vancouver Theatre Guild and others to combined forces in order to present the Metro's inaugural season in 1962. Among the business community members who contributed to the launch was the former owner of The Sun newspaper, Donald C. Cromie. The debut production was a White Rock Players-directed version of playwrights Howard Richardson and William Berney's 1945 Broadway hit, Dark of the Moon. A review by then Vancouver Sun theatre critic James Barber called it 'a good play, well executed, and one that sets a standard for Metro that is worthy of their investment.' Pointing to the British expat community as an early driver of the theatre, Metro Theatre society vice-president Shel Piercy, says there was another important pillar of the project: the lounge. 'Because folks would come here to drink,' Piercy says. 'We turn 63 this year and it's kind of amazing that we have been an amateur theatre all that time.' Piercy, director Jo Sears and marketing manager Jordy Matheson recently sat down in the theatre's retro and cosy upstairs lounge to talk about the recently-announced 2025/2026 season, Musical Theatre Summer Camp and how a small community theatre company was a launch pad for major musical theatre talents such as Tony award-winner Brent Carver and a singer named Carly Rae Jepsen. Many of the behind-the-scenes volunteers come from the local theatre and Hollywood North film and TV production scene. Piercy worked many years in the local industry. In 1985, the theatre began a tradition of British seasonal pantomimes with a production of Babes in the Woods. Over the years, classics such as Dick Whittington and Jack and the Beanstalk have delivered the laughs to noisy, happy and interactive audiences. Since then, Metro has always mounted a panto every holiday season. Many of these shows have been favourably reviewed over the decades by both The Vancouver Sun and The Province. These seasonal shows are a top ticket seller for the venue. Its full-scale productions even made the pages of England's Pantomime! magazine last year. 'My father-in-law, who was born in Britain, started pantomimes at the Metro because he thought it would be fun to try it,' said Piercy. 'He had taken on working at the theatre as a labour-of-love project and I designed the set. The only time we haven't staged an annual one was during the pandemic.' Sears, who is British and grew up attending pantos, introduced such classic U.K. venue features as serving ice cream in the theatre. She recently took a course in making the hard-cap wigs worn by the character of the Dame with Lauren Hobbs of Studio Loz . The U.K. studio is a world leader in panto costuming, reflecting on the professional goals set for Metro productions. 'I'm very much about front of house, wanting to see our patrons who maybe can't afford a ticket to the Arts Club or similar to be able to come a get a taste of the West End too,' said Sears. 'Where they can have their ice cream and, perhaps, a glass of sherry in the lounge.' These added extras bring more business for the amateur theatre. Piercy notes that the company used to put on 11 shows per production but has expanded that to 14 for dramas, 19 for the musicals and 21 for the panto. Matheson says each show is approached with the goal to make it better than the last. It's being noticed. 'Cinderella won an Ovation Award last season and was the top earner as well as our highest-selling panto since 2015,' he said. 'But the second-best last season was the Agatha Christie mystery And Then There Were None. You might think these shows are dusty and wouldn't be in demand, but our top three shows last season were the panto, the mystery and a classic farce.' Metro Theatre has broadened its season with co-productions, such as this coming season's Rent, directed and co-mounted by board member Mary Cleaver. The local real estate agent and author was introduced to the Metro Theatre when she wanted to produce a version of the musical Working. She said it was an instant 'all-in' experience and encourages anyone interested to consider volunteering in some capacity or another. 'From the minute I stepped in the theatre and up to that lounge, it was all-in, as I was transported back to Palm Springs in the 1950s,' she said. 'You half expect Frank Sinatra to come through the door and I loved all of it. From there, it was joining the board, experiencing the labour of love that it is for everyone involved and watching audiences have a fantastic time.' The present volunteer base, including cast, crew and all others, is 195 plus three full-time staff. That number, they say, needs to increase in order to keep things running. Like all arts groups, Piercy says that Metro Theatre is 'up against it,' trying to continue to get people into seats. The theatre is dark Mondays to Wednesdays, and he would love to see the calendar filled with things from the Musical Theatre Summer camp for ages 9-13 to special dance events and filming shows such as APTN's Rez Comedy . Piercy wants to see the Metro Theatre play a key role in the community as both a proving ground for young talents on their way up all the way to the 'old hands with expertise'. 'A room like this needs to be in use,' he said, gesturing toward the space. 'Because something special is happening here.' Where is the Metro Theatre?
