BCC adapts robotic solution to UGD problems
underground drainage
(UGD) issues in the city, the
Belagavi City Corporation
(BCC) turned to technology by conducting a trial demonstration of a
robotic inspection machine
.The demonstration took place near Hanuman Nagar in the presence of mayor Mangesh Pawar, deputy mayor Vani Vilas Joshi, ruling party Hanamant Kongali, along with several corporators and municipal officials.
During the event, technical experts from the company explained the machine's functionality, efficiency, and technological features in detail.This robotic device enters underground drainage lines and accurately detects problems such as e blockages, leakages, and water contamination, using cameras and sensors. It provides live visuals from inside the pipeline and serves as an effective tool for assessing UGD conditions. The robot can detect issues even before the pipes collapse.This robotic machine costs around Rs 27 lakh. The company agreed to offer one month of free training. Additionally, for Rs 5.5 crore, the company will handle operations and maintenance for three years under a service contract.Mayor Mangesh Pawar clarified that the project will not affect the employment of civic workers. "The robot is only for detection purposes—manual labour will still be necessary," he assured. He further added that all members will discuss the pros and cons of the purchase before making a final decision. Deputy mayor Vani Joshi stated that a decision will be taken based on necessity and performance results.From the perspective of
public health
and urban cleanliness, this technology could be crucial. The shift from manual labour to machine power, precise management, and quick detection will help prevent accidents and delays caused by drainage blockages. This innovation could mark the beginning of a new chapter in the city's cleanliness and sanitation efforts.

Property dealers concerned about Bhilwara's growth plan
Bhilwara: A controversy has erupted in Bhilwara as the local Property Dealers and Brokers Association has accused the Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) of making unauthorised alterations to the city's master plan, potentially affecting development for the next 50 years. The association's legal in-charge, Rajkumar Taylor, Monday alleged that UIT officials have disregarded govt orders while modifying the city's master plan. Of particular concern is the marking of what appears to be a 1200-feet wide road in the multipurpose plan, which officials later clarified is actually intended as a green belt. The association also raised issues regarding the ongoing lottery process for 3,081 residential plots across nine housing schemes. It questioned the higher application fee of Rs 2,000 in Bhilwara compared to Rs 1,000 in Ajmer, resulting in approximately Rs 20 crore in collections. Additionally, it claimed that recent modifications to the notification have inadvertently excluded many women applicants, contrary to state and central govt policies promoting women's empowerment. Former UIT Chairman Rampal Sharma expressed concern over potential changes to the multipurpose plan, which covers approximately 8,000 acres of land. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Pieces of Clothing you Can be Too Old for Learn More Undo He highlighted that the original plan, modelled after Gandhinagar, Chandigarh and Gurgaon, had already seen investments of about Rs 100 crore and included provisions for 125 departments. Property developer Kailash Kothari expressed concerns about UIT's modifications, including the proposal for a 1200-feet wide road. Kothari highlighted that this development would affect farmlands falling within the road's vicinity, causing distress to farmers. He warned that if UIT fails to revise these changes, the association would seek legal intervention through the courts. District collector and current UIT Chairman Jasmeet Singh Sandhu, however, denied these allegations, stating, "The multipurpose plan and Section 32 remain unchanged. We welcome suggestions from citizens through the designated committee." UIT secretary Lalit Goyal clarified that the controversial 1200-feet marking represents a green belt, not a road, and assured that the multipurpose plan remains intact. The Property Dealers Association, led by president Jagjivan Jaiswal, has threatened legal action if their concerns are not addressed and plans to seek intervention from the Chief Minister and the UDH minister.
