The fund released is out of Rs 60 crore allocated for the project in the current fiscal.
Principal secretary, agriculture, Ravinder said that under the project, weather stations and rain gauges would be installed at the block and panchayat levels, respectively.
Under the project, the state agriculture department will set up at least 308 automatic weather stations in selected blocks and around 55,570 rain gauges across the gram panchayats.
Officials said that WINDS uses advanced weather data analytics to provide farmers and other stakeholders with actionable weather information for agriculture.
W
ith precise weather forecasting, farmers will be able to prepare for extreme weather events like droughts, floods, and storms. Ravinder said this will also help in estimating the loss caused to horticultural crops during extreme weather conditions.
Besides boosting productivity, the measure will also aid in deciding crop insurance and other agriculture-related programmes.
This will be in addition to 518 weather stations which are in the process of being constructed by the revenue and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The two departments have also joined hands in installing as many as 2,132 rain gauge equipment to ascertain the quantum of rain and determine the local rainfall pattern.

Experts said that WINDS aims to create a large network of weather stations at the hyper-local level to monitor weather patterns, assess risk, and respond to meteorological concerns. This also includes steps to improve air quality monitoring through the development of low-cost reliable sensor-based systems. This will help in generating hyper-local weather data that would aid farmers in planning irrigation, sowing, and harvesting.

Maximum temperature goes up by 5°C in Gurgaon, more rain likely

Gurgaon: The city woke up to overcast skies as India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a "yellow alert" for heavy showers from Aug 1 to 5 in isolated parts of Haryana. Meanwhile, a minimum temperature of 26.5°C was recorded on Friday, nearly 0.8°C lower than the previous day, and the maximum temperature reached 31.8°C, which was five notches higher than Thursday. According to IMD, light to moderate showers are expected in most parts of the state in the coming week, with some areas including Gurgaon and nearby districts receiving more rainfall. The monsoon trough at mean sea level currently runs across Sri Ganganagar, Rohtak, Shahjahanpur, Gorakhpur, and into the northeast Bay of Bengal," an IMD official said. "Additionally, an upper air cyclonic circulation over Haryana and its neighbourhood, extending up to 3.1km above mean sea level, continues to feed moisture into the region. A western disturbance is also present at higher altitudes (around 5.8km), aligned along 72°E north of latitude 32°N," the official added. "These overlapping systems are likely to trigger recurrent spells of rain, especially in southern and eastern Haryana," an official with IMD Chandigarh said. "Urban areas like Gurgaon could see waterlogging and localised flooding if the showers intensify," they added. The district administration has been alerted to prepare for possible disruptions, particularly in low-lying areas and stretches known for poor drainage. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo In the capital, several parts, including south and central areas, saw intense rain on Friday afternoon. Punjab Minister Mundia reviews storm waterline project in Phase 11, Mohali

To address the long-standing issue of rainwater accumulation in Phase 11, Mohali, Punjab's Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Hardeep Singh Mundia, along with AAP Punjab general secretary and chairman of the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Dr S S Ahluwalia, Monday visited the site to review progress on the ongoing storm waterline project. The project, worth Rs 2.05 crore, has been provided permanent relief from waterlogging in the area. Mundia stated that a significant portion of the work has already been completed, resulting in noticeable relief during the current monsoon season. In previous years, rainwater would often flood homes, causing considerable damage. He directed the Water Supply and Sanitation Department to complete the remaining work within the next 45 days. Dr Ahluwalia said that a 56″ (1400 mm) diameter RCC pipeline, approximately 750 metres in length, is being laid from the Phase-11 petrol pump to the Mohali Golf Range. Once completed, the project is expected to fully resolve the rainwater problem in Phase 11, particularly benefiting the LIG and MIG houses.
