Owen Farrell on the Lions bench for last warmup before Wallabies tests
Farrell hasn't played international rugby since the 2023 World Cup. By game day he will have played no rugby in nine weeks and only 18 minutes in the last 10 weeks.
The former England captain replaced the injured Elliot Daly to make it onto his fourth Lions tour.
He will play his 19th game for the Lions when he comes off the bench in what is a last chance for the team to impress coach Andy Farrell before the test series begins against Australia next week.
Their chances improved after the shadow Lions test side conceded four tries to the ACT Brumbies in a scratchy 36-24 win midweek.
Fullback Hugo Keenan makes his second tour appearance, and a timely one after his rival for the No. 15 test jersey, Blair Kinghorn, left the Brumbies win early with an injured left knee.
Scrumhalf Ben White gets his first start after replacing the injured Tomos Williams in the tour party in Australia.
The back row, still not fixed for the Lions, features Henry Pollock, Jac Morgan and No. 8 Ben Earl.
Forward Tadhg Beirne will captain the Lions for the second time after tour leader Maro Itoje was given another rest.
'We are in a great position just over a week out from the first test,' Andy Farrell said. 'The players now have another chance to put in a strong team performance and put a hand up for selection for the test matches against the Wallabies.'
The first combined Australia-New Zealand XV since the 1989 Lions tour has 17 internationals, including the entire starting side.
Coach Les Kiss, the Wallabies coach-in-waiting, picked Crusaders' Super Rugby-winning skipper David Havili and Queensland Reds forward Lukhan Salakaia-Loto as co-captains.
'The co-captaincy model with natural leaders like David and Lukhan (will) really suit this team and what we represent,' Kiss said. 'In forming new bonds many of them have discovered they have more in common than they originally thought.'
The Lions are 4-0 in Australia since a 28-24 loss to Argentina in a warmup in Dublin. They have beaten all of Australia's Super Rugby franchises. Before the Brumbies, they defeated the Western Force, Queensland Reds, and New South Wales Waratahs.
The test series begins on July 19 in Brisbane, followed by games in Melbourne on July 26 and in Sydney on Aug. 2.

Lions DT Levi Onwuzurike out for entire 2025 season with ACL injury, surgery
The Lions' 2024 defensive line injury woes have held over into 2025, with Dan Campbell confirming Detroit will be without defensive tackle Levi Onwuzurike for the entire upcoming season after offseason surgery on an ACL injury. Onwuzurike – who signed a one-year deal coming into the season after an impressive 2024 following a back injury that required spinal fusion surgery in Oct. 2022 – was placed on the reserve/PUP list on Thursday. Though Onwuzurike played in 2023, his role was limited. "Out of his control and it needed to be done, so he will miss the season." "You don't like to lose anybody," Campbell said, per ESPN. "Certainly, losing Levi, that hurts, but it helps that we've got Tyleik (Williams), so we've got a little bit of balance here." According to Campbell, Onwuzurike got the knee surgery earlier in the offseason. Onwuzurike joined fellow defensive tackle Alim McNeill on the reserve/PUP list when he was placed on it, as McNeill continues to recover from a Dec. 15 ACL tear suffered against the Bills last season. The aforementioned Tyleik Williams, the 28th overall pick in this year's NFL draft out of Ohio State, recorded 46 tackles (eight for loss) and 2.5 sacks in last year's championship season for the Buckeyes.

Taylor Decker had shoulder surgery, Lions hope he practices after Hall of Fame game
The news that defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike will miss the season with a torn ACL was the biggest headline of head coach Dan Campbell's Sunday press conference, but he provided several other injury updates as well. Left tackle Taylor Decker was placed on the physically unable to perform list upon reporting to training camp and Campbell said that he is recovering from shoulder surgery. Campbell said that the hope is that Decker will be able to start practicing after the Lions face the Chargers in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio on July 31. 'We feel like there's a good chance we can get [Decker] back after the Hall of Fame Game,' Decker said, via the team's website. 'He's good. Just cleaned up his shoulder a little bit and we're going to work him back in when he's ready to go. He's in a good place.' The wait is set to be a bit longer for defensive end Josh Paschal. Paschal is on the non-football injury list and Campbell, who did not share the nature of Paschal's injury, does not expect him to practice until September.

Detroit Lions raining camp medical preview: Wide receivers
The Lions enjoyed very good health with their WR's last season. However, there was big news this offseason with an unexpected knee surgery for Amon-Ra St. Brown. Last season, the Lions kept only four WR's on the initial 53-man roster (St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Kalif Raymond, Isaiah Williams) although Tim Patrick was quickly added in Week 2. Here is the list of WR's starting with the players with the biggest medical question marks entering the season. Ages are at the start of the season. #1: Amon-Ra St. Brown - 25yo ARSB has been amazingly, consistently productive the past few seasons. He was available for all 18 games last year. However, an offseason knee surgery raises some concern. It's unclear when this injury happened or if it's just an accumulation of small traumas over time. The surgery is suspected to be an arthroscopic procedure to clean up cartilage. The severity of cartilage damage is extremely variable, but the fact he was able to effectively play through it last season suggests it's not too serious. However, any level of cartilage damage could become an issue down the road. St. Brown was not placed on PUP at the start of camp which means he's ready to go. Projection: St. Brown likely continues to look like his elite self this season. #2: Tim Patrick - 31yo Coming off an ACL in 2022 and an Achilles rupture in 2023, Patrick rebounded with an excellent, reliable 2024 season by playing in 17 of 18 games. He got $2.5 million guaranteed on a 1-year deal this offseason which means the Lions are pretty confident in him for this coming season. Projection: Patrick continues in his role as the big #3 WR. #3: Kalif Raymond - 31yo Raymond missed five games last year with a left foot injury but was able to return for the final two games. He's been very reliable and productive since joining the team in 2021, but his age is starting to creep up. Projection: Raymond continues in his kick/punt return roles and serves as a reliable WR backup. If the receivers ahead of him stay healthy, his production stays low. But if there are any injuries, Raymond will be ready to step in immediately. #4: Isaac TeSlaa - 23yo The Lions traded up to snag him in the 3rd-round this year because of his size and athleticism. He had a hand fracture in 2022 but has otherwise been healthy. TeSlaa was limited this offseason for unspecified reasons, but there isn't any sign of anything concerning. His absence from PUP is confirmation. Projection: His production this year depends a lot on the health of the players ahead of him. He'll take a big jump in status next year when Patrick and Raymond might be gone. #5: Tom Kennedy - 29yo Kennedy has been on and off the team since 2019. He had a possible arm/shoulder injury in 2023 but should enter the season healthy. Last year, he played 16 offensive snaps. Projection: He won't make the 53-man roster but will be available if the Lions need him during the season. #6: Jameson Williams - 24yo A couple minor ankle sprains are the only health issues since returning from his 2022 ACL. He is young and healthy entering his fourth season. Projection: Williams' role and production continue to increase being the healthiest member of this group. His 5th-year option was picked up, but it's possible he gets an extension before then. #7: Dominic Lovett - 22yo This 7th-round rookie was healthy throughout college. Projection: With so many established players ahead of him, Lovett likely ends up on the practice squad. #8: Jakobie Keeney-James - 24yo This undrafted rookie had some vague injury issues in college. Projection: Practice squad would be a good outcome. #9: Jackson Meeks - 22yo This undrafted rookie had surgery in 2024 for a hairline fracture in his foot which is certainly something to monitor. The Lions reportedly gave him $200,000 to sign after the draft. Projection: The Lions invested some money in him which suggests he has a good chance to land at least on the practice squad. #9: Malik Taylor - 29yo Taylor missed all last year on IR with the Jets for undisclosed reasons. His age and health status make him a questionable fit for the Lions. Projection: Seems like a long-shot to make the team. #10: Ronnie Bell - 25yo Michigan fans fondly remember his exploits, but Bell hasn't done much in the NFL in two seasons with the 49ers. He had a 2021 ACL which isn't a concern now. Projection: Unless he takes a big step up, he probably doesn't have a role on the team.
