NEW DELHI: Covert activities, innovative tactics and code words for secret meetings like 'Chandan ka Karyakram' - the unconventional methods used by a young RSS pracharak, and now PM, during Emergency had left many surprised, even authorities.
'The Emergency Diaries - Years that Forged a Leader', published by BlueKraft, chronicles Modi's role after speaking to several people associated with him at that time.
Evading detection as a member of the banned RSS during Emergency, Modi travelled in disguises - in one instance as a "swamiji" to visit a jail to speak to incarcerated activists. He was there for nearly an hour, according to the book, released at an event to mark 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas' by home minister Amit Shah.
In the book, RSS volunteer Hasmukh Patel talked about Modi's keen mind for innovative outreaches, noting that he suggested placing anti-Emergency literature in barber shops where people from different walks of life gathered, and with religious leaders as followers came to listen to them.
"He not only ensured regular publication of anti-Emergency literature, but also took on the perilous responsibility of distributing it throughout Gujarat.

Then it will be easy for it to enforce its ideology', Warring alleged, stating that the BJP-led Union government was weakening the state as it refused to accept RSS ideology. Warring said that the RSS and the BJP never accepted the Constitution and after coming to power, were strategising to weaken it. 'The Congress, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi would never allow it. It was because of the Constitution that the Indians had become 'citizens' or else they would still be 'subjects' of their rulers. The Constitution brought equality and secularism and gave people the right to live respectfully. It is the responsibility of every citizen to save the Constitution,' he added. Later talking to the media, Warring said that there was no rift in the party. 'Like other families, the Congress family too has some differences but you cannot call them rift. These are temporary and when Punjab's interest will be at stake, all will come together,' he said.

BJP ‘first party' to push for caste census: Union Minister
Bengaluru:Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav claimed on Saturday that the BJP was the 'first party' since Independence to push for a caste census. He said that under the 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' (Together with all, development for all) policy, the BJP aims to bring change to all sections of society based on scientific data. He said that over the past 11 years, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, numerous developmental and welfare schemes had been implemented for the benefit of the poor and marginalised. He noted that it was PM Modi who gave constitutional status to the OBC Commission. Yadav emphasised that the Registrar General of India was empowered to conduct caste censuses and said that for the first time since Independence, such an exercise was being carried out to responsibly collect data on social, economic, caste-based, and educational indicators. He recalled that after the end of the Emergency, a non-Congress government, the Janata Party, came to power at the Centre and constituted the Mandal Commission. Yadav asserted that the BJP was the first party since Independence to push for a caste census. He mentioned that the Congress mouthpiece 'National Herald' had even published an article advocating for one-party rule in India. Following this, BK Nehru had written a letter, and a committee was reportedly formed within the Congress on this matter. Yadav alleged that Congress had long been engaged in a systematic effort to equate the party with the family, and the family with the nation. This ideology, he said, led to the declaration of Emergency. He concluded by saying that the Emergency was remembered as a dark chapter in Indian democracy, one that ignited a people's struggle driven by national self-respect and democratic values.
