VJ Edgecombe's Strong Message After Being Picked by 76ers originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
On Wednesday, the Philadelphia 76ers made an NBA dream come true after they drafted VJ Edgecombe with the No. 3 pick. It was a toss-up between him and Rutgers star Ace Bailey. However, the 76ers were more interested in welcoming the former Baylor guard to the organization. Bailey, meanwhile, was eventually drafted by the Utah Jazz with the No. 5 pick.

Edgecombe had a great workout with the 76ers leading up to draft night. Although ESPN draft expert Jonathan Givony reported that there was a big of nervousness from the prospect, the front office still loved his workout.
Now, all that's left to do is welcome him to the franchise around the Big 3 of Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey.

After his name was called, his mother and brother accompanied him off the stage. Edgecombe's family was emotional, especially his mother, who couldn't contain her tears. The NBA talent had a strong message after his selection, expressing his excitement to play for the 76ers.

"I'mma tell you right now," Edgecombe said. "[I'm] super excited, we came from nothing. We're truly blessed just to be in this position."
Longtime journalist David Aldridge revealed on X that 76ers' President of Basketball Operations, Daryl Morey, expressed what the team needs. According to Morey, he believes the bench needs youth and athleticism. He achieved that on Wednesday when they drafted Edgecombe.
"After the 76ers' final game of the season, Daryl Morey blamed himself for not building a good enough bench. He said his goal was to make the team younger and more athletic. Gets his shot now at number three, if he keeps the pick," Aldridge posted.

Edgecombe is one of the most athletic players in the draft and is developing as a shooter.

Michigan football's 2026 recruiting class soars to top 12 with 5 commits this week

It wasn't that long ago that Michigan football fans were lamenting the fact that you almost had to click 'read more' in order to see where the Wolverines were ranked in the 2026 recruiting team rankings. Even in the month of May, there was a local outcry as the maize and blue had just a handful of commits, seemingly languishing behind a series of also-rans. Oh, how things change. Perhaps patience was in order? Advertisement Now here we are, a month later, and fans are celebrating what's turning out to be one of the best classes in the country. The Wolverines got two commitments on Friday, about 15 minutes apart (if that), when Richmond (Va.) Huguenot three-star linebacker Markel Dabney and Honolulu (Hawaii) Kamehameha four-star offensive tackle Malakai Lee both pledged to the class. That's adding on to commitments this week from St. Louis (Mo.) DeSmet four-star defensive tackle Titan Davis, Mansfield (Tx.) four-star wide receiver Zion Robinson, and Needham (Mass.) St. Sebastian's four-star offensive tackle Marky Walbridge. Oh, and there are still two or three outstanding commits who have told Sherrone Moore and the program, but haven't announced yet publicly. So, where does Michigan rank now that it's added five commitments in five days? Here's a look at the different recruiting services: Advertisement 247Sports team rankings: No. 11 overall, 0 five-stars, 9 four-stars, 6 three-stars, average rating (90.77), overall rating (229.93) On3 team rankings: No. 11 overall, 0 five-stars, 9 four-stars, 6 three-stars, average rating (88.58), score (90.010) Rivals team rankings: No. 12 overall, 1 five-star, 9 four-stars, 4 three-stars, points (1762) We'll have to wait about a month to see where ESPN ranks the maize and blue. With the new rankings update, Michigan has surpassed teams such as Texas, Tennessee, Florida, and LSU (via all the rankings services). Whereas, beforehand, the Wolverines were behind all of them. There are still several top targets that are trending toward the maize and blue who decide soon, such as Richmond (Va.) Hermitage four-star CB Andre Clarke, Frisco (Tx.) Panther Creek four-star S Donovan Webb, Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith four-star WR Travis Johnson, Fort Worth (Tx.) North Crowley four-star IOL John Turntine III, Miami (Fla.) Northwestern five-star WR Calvin Russell, and Carrollton (Ga.) four-star CB Dorian Barney -- most of whom have at least one prediction that they'll end up in a winged helmet come decision day. Here are all of the current commitments to the class, using 247Sports Composite rankings: Advertisement Newbury Park (Calif.) four-star QB Brady Smigiel (No. 83 overall, 8th QB, 12th in California) St. Louis (Mo.) Bengals risk being only NFL team with 1st-round pick unsigned

Not that the Cincinnati Bengals pay much attention to outside public opinion, but the team is now one of just two franchises yet to sign their first-round pick this year. The Bengals with Shemar Stewart and the Denver Broncos with cornerback Jahdae Barron are the two teams left standing without a signature from their first-round picks. Advertisement Jacksonville shoved the Bengals into this bucket over the weekend by signing Travis Hunter, the No. 2 overall pick. RELATED: Bengals, Shemar Stewart nuclear option includes 2026 NFL draft route The Bengals had to watch as Stewart bashed the organization publicly before leaving minicamp early recently. According to reports, the Bengals want to reset contractual language regarding guarantees, starting with Stewart as the first. The defensive end and his reps, naturally, don't want to be the first. It's hard to imagine the standoff bleeds too far into training camp, but it's equally hard to imagine the Bengals care that they're just one of two teams yet to wrap up what should be nothing more than a minor offseason bit of work.
