Stormzy: Big Man role was tough to separate from real me

This year marks 10 years since actors started boycotting the biggest event in the film world, The Oscars, over criticism about a lack of diversity.Since then, campaigns like #OscarsSoWhite have seen calls grow louder for improved representation on screen."What we've tried to do at Merky, whether it's music, sports, whatever, we do we just want to stand in our truth, tell our stories, but also not from the same perspective that it's always been told from," Stormzy says. "Even being black British, it's such a nuanced experience – you've got the black experience, you've got the British experience, and then you've got the black British experience. "We want to tell it from our perspective which is nuanced, it's brilliant, it's different, it's not always the same, it's not a monolith."
'A challenge I was honoured to be part of'
One of Stormzy's co-stars, 15-year-old Klevis Brahja, tells Newsbeat how he was scouted for the film on the street."I never knew I wanted to do acting and then out of nowhere I'm in auditions," he says."It's crazy to be near someone like Stormzy and to have an opportunity like this. A lot of people dream for this and we're the lucky ones, it's amazing."Stormzy also worked with Oscar-winning director Aneil Karia, known for projects including The Long Goodbye and Surge, on Big Man, which was shot entirely on a phone."It was really tough but it was a challenge I was so honoured to be a part of," Stormzy says."I like to be challenged, I like to be a bit uncomfortable so I love it."

Former Love Island winner Amber Davies has hit out at a 'selfish' theatre goer for 'ruining' her West End performance in The Great Gatsby. The theatre actress, 28, took to Instagram in full stage make-up while backstage at the London Coliseum following her latest show. After Saturday evening's performance, Amber issued a warning to those attending the musical after being distracted by someone in the audience. She told Instagram followers: 'This is a PSA. The closer you are to the stage when you're watching a show the more obvious it is when you're filming. 'This is the entire stalls. If you're filming in the stalls we can see you! From someone who's on stage, I just wanna tell you a little bit about what we see. So we see like a dark canvas and outlines of people's heads. 'If you're filming, the reflection from the lights bounce straight back off your ... the back of your iPhone onto us on stage. So it is the one thing we can see.' She then criticised one particular audience member. 'So to the woman filming New Money tonight - you distracted absolutely everybody on that stage. 'And not only that, it takes us out of the Gatsby world because you're filming and you've basically ruined that moment for everybody else who was watching the show tonight.' 'Please don't be selfish. Stop filming shows. If someone is filming during a show know that this is the consequences that it has to the people on stage and tell them to stop because honestly it's annoying. 'Also, I single-handedly will count how many seats back you are and tell our stage manager where you're sitting and what colour hair you've got, and trust me, in the interval they will come and ask you to delete the footage so you've basically done it for nothing. 'Okay, I'm gonna enjoy act two now.' The production, running at the London Coliseum from April 16 to September 7, brings F. Scott Fitzgerald's iconic story to life in dazzling style. In February, the complete casting for the West End production was revealed. Joining the previously announced Jamie Muscato as Jay Gatsby and Frances Mayli McCann as Daisy Buchanan are Corbin Bleu as Nick Carraway, Amber Davies as Jordan Baker, Joel Montague as George Wilson, John Owen-Jones as Meyer Wolfsheim, Jon Robyns as Tom Buchanan and Rachel Tucker as Myrtle Wilson. BBC offer Strictly cocaine duo rehab stint after claim pair took drug on show as bosses consider random tests
BBC bosses are set to offer two Strictly stars at the centre of a drugs storm the chance to attend rehab. It comes amid claims it was widely known they took cocaine on the show. Execs are also considering adding random drugs tests on next year's Strictly tour — where after-parties are known for wild scenes. In the latest scandal to hit the flagship BBC show, The Sun on Sunday revealed that the BBC had been forced to launch an investigation using external lawyers to look into allegations of drug use. A celebrity claimed it was 'well known on the show that two stars took cocaine'. And one star allegedly said to another, about a third: 'Have you seen their pupils . . . they're off their face.' Last night a source said: 'The BBC is taking the allegations really seriously. "Bosses are aware of the two stars in question and have a duty of care to make sure they're OK. 'As per BBC policy, the option of specialised professional support is on the table and will be offered.' They added: 'While drug testing won't happen on the main show, bosses are considering bringing in random checks for the tour next year. 'The BBC needs to be sure nothing illegal is going on. 'It all depends on what the investigation finds.' A BBC source said: 'Welfare is paramount for bosses.'
