Celebration Honoring LSU Shreveport Pilots' Historic Season
The city of Shreveport honored the LSUS Pilot baseball team Monday with a celebration at the festival plaza. The undefeated Pilots walked with cheers, surrounded by a sea of purple and gold.
'Man, it's nothing but greatness for us as a community. Not just in Shreveport but as the LSUS family,' said Trey Johnson, LSUS student assistant.

The public rally included cheerleaders, city leaders, players, and proud families, all reflecting on what this season has meant.
'A perfect season. 59-0 Record that continues in a national championship. These things just don't happen,' said LSUS Chancellor Robert T. Smith.
For some families, this run marks more than just wins on the field. It's a milestone.
'From Little League all the way till now, the amount of time, the practice, the hours spent on the road—wouldn't change a thing. It was amazing,' said Jeff Parks, father of player Jack Parks #33.
The Pilots have created a legacy already etched in LSU history.

'Bring that championship back to Shreveport. It's been nothing but greatness this year,' said Johnson.
'We were just blown away by how many people came out. It really tells you how much support there is in this region. I want to see the city of Shreveport in northwest Louisiana become a place where everybody expects to find champions,' said Smith.
See it goes out this way, this is the last, this is the last game, he's getting married in August, starting a new chapter of life, and so, this has just been a storybook finish.

Liberty Superstar Makes History Against Caitlin Clark-less Fever
Liberty Superstar Makes History Against Caitlin Clark-less Fever originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever faced the conference-leading New York Liberty on Wednesday, falling 98–77. They were without star guard Caitlin Clark, who missed her tenth game of the season due to her third injury this year. Before this season, Clark had never missed a game in her college or professional career. However, her second WNBA season has been plagued by injuries, limiting her to 12 appearances, in which Indiana has gone 7-5. Clark has averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists this season, which are slightly underwhelming numbers considering the impressive rookie year she had. With the All-Star Game approaching and Clark serving as a team captain, her availability remains up in the air. On the other hand, New York's superstar saw Wednesday's matchup as an opportunity to make history at Barclays Center. Liberty forward Breanna Stewart led the charge, scoring 24 points on 66% shooting, adding 11 rebounds and seven assists. With this performance, Stewart, who's been in the league since 2016, now has the third most 20-point games in WNBA history. Wednesday's victory marked New York's fifth 20-point victory of the season, extending their lead for the most such wins in the WNBA this year. The Liberty won three straight and four out of their last five heading into the All-Star break, in which Stewart and guard Sabrina Ionescu will be representing them. They will face the Fever once again after the break on Tuesday, seeking their fourth consecutive victory in a relatively tight Eastern Conference. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 17, 2025, where it first appeared.

Stewart leads Liberty to win over the Fever as Clark missed game with groin injury
NEW YORK (AP) — Breanna Stewart had 24 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists to help the New York Liberty to a 98-77 win Wednesday night over the Indiana Fever, who played without star guard Caitlin Clark. Clark missed the game after injuring her right groin on Tuesday night in the final minute of the game against Connecticut in Boston. Clark has a busy weekend ahead as Indiana is hosting the WNBA All-Star Game and she's slated to compete in the 3-point contest and is captain of one of the two teams. Sabrina Ionescu, who will also be in the 3-point contest, added 15 points and nine assists for the Liberty (15-6). Stewart got the Liberty off to a strong start as they led 32-24 after one quarter and were up 15 at the half. The Liberty's All-Star forward had 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists by the break. New York put the game away in the third quarter behind Stewart, whose three-point play with 3:57 left made it 71-48 much to the delight of the crowd of 17,371. The Fever could only get within 15 the rest of the way. Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana (12-11) with 16 points. The Fever fell to 4-6 when Clark has missed a regular season game this season. DREAM 86, SKY 49 CHICAGO (AP) — Brittney Griner scored 15 points, Brionna Jones and Allisha Gray each added 14 points, and Atlanta cruised past Chicago. Atlanta opened the third quarter on a 14-0 run and closed the frame with a 74-36 lead. The Dream made 13 field goals in the third — one more than the Sky had through three quarters. The score was 62-26 before the Sky made their second field goal of the second half with 3:24 left in the third. The Dream led by as many as 43 in the fourth. Rookie Te-Hina Paopao finished with 13 points and Naz Hillmon scored 10 for Atlanta (13-9). Jordin Canada had eight assists. Rebecca Allen had a team-high nine points and three 3-pointers — all in the third quarter — for Chicago (7-15). Kamilla Cardoso added eight points and 11 rebounds. Chicago avoided its lowest scoring game in franchise history when Moriah Jefferson made a jumper in the lane with 30.3 seconds left. LYNX 79, MERCURY 66 MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kayla McBride scored 18 points, Courtney Williams had 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Minnesota beat Phoenix to improve to 12-0 at home this season heading into the All-Star break. Jessica Shepard's one-handed putback just before the third-quarter buzzer made it 64-49. The Lynx made five 3-pointers in the frame to outscore the Mercury 27-16. Napheesa Collier scored eight of her 10 points in the third and Alanna Smith finished with 11 points for Minnesota (20-4). Williams recorded five-plus assists in her seventh straight game. Alyssa Thomas had 12 points and nine assists, and Kalani Brown had 11 points and 11 rebounds for Phoenix (15-7). DeWanna Bonner also scored 11 points on 5-of-12 shooting. STORM 67, VALKYRIES 58 SEATTLE (AP) — Nneka Ogwumike scored 22 points to move into sixth place on the WNBA's all-time scoring list and Seattle beat Golden State. Ogwumike passed Candice Dupree (6,895 points) by one point and is now behind Tamika Catchings, who scored 7,380 in her career. The Storm (14-9) went to Ogwumike quite often down the stretch. She had 11 of her 22 points in the fourth quarter, including a pivotal layup with 2:09 remaining and a pair of free throws at the 1:18 mark to put Seattle up 61-54. Erica Wheeler had a strong third quarter, sinking back-to-back 3-pointers early and following with a running layup at the 7:41 mark to put the Storm up 39-33. With 2:32 to go in the third, Wheeler converted a three-point play to give Seattle a 45-37 lead. The Valkyries (10-12) made it 56-54 with just 4:48 to go in regulation on a layup from Veronica Burton. Ogwumike's late efforts were enough to stymie the late Golden State push. Wheeler had 15 points. Skylar Diggins scored 10 and Lexie Brown scored seven off the bench. Cecilia Zandalasini had 12 points and Janelle Salaun scored 10 for the Valkyries. ACES 90, WINGS 86 DALLAS (AP) — A'ja Wilson scored a season-high 37 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season and Las Vegas held off a late rally to beat Dallas. Wilson, who had 34 points and 16 rebounds in a 104-102 win over Golden State on Saturday, finished 15 of 25 from the field to reach 30-plus points for the fourth time this season. Her 37 points tied for most points in a WNBA game this season. Las Vegas created separation in the third quarter by going on an 18-2 run to build a 70-48 lead. The Aces scored 12 straight points during the run as Dallas went scoreless for three-plus minutes. The Wings rallied in the fourth, opening on a 9-1 run to get within 73-61 on a 3-pointer by Paige Bueckers. Dallas added a 3-pointer on three straight possessions to cut its deficit to 86-82 with 1:04 left. Bueckers made a baseline jumper with 26.5 seconds left to pull within 86-84, but Wilson was fouled while making a layup at the other end for a four-point lead. The Wings missed two 3-pointers and the Aces made their free throws.

Liberty cruise past Caitlin Clark-less Fever, 98-77
NEW YORK — The Liberty ended the first half of the season on a high note. Facing an Indiana Fever team that was without Caitlin Clark, the Liberty cruised to a 98-77 victory at Barclays Center on Wednesday night behind one of their most well-rounded performances of the year. Breanna Stewart led the way with 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting to go with 11 rebounds, seven assists and four blocks. Sabrina Ionescu added 15 points and a season-high nine assists, several of which came on highlight-worthy passes. Stewart and Ionescu are set to represent the Liberty at Saturday night's WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis, and they looked the part in Wednesday's rout. Ionescu drilled a pair of 3-pointers and made a tough reverse layup during a 10-point first quarter. She finished 3 of 9 from behind the arc before she's set to compete in Friday's 3-point contest in Indy. Stewart, meanwhile, had five assists in the first quarter and repeatedly got into the lane for easy baskets, including on a third-quarter cut in which the right-handed Ionescu found her with a lefty bounce pass. Those two fueled a Liberty offense that shot 57.8% from the field and went 14 of 27 (51.9%) on 3-pointers. Four of those 3-pointers came in a one-minute, 40-second stretch late in the fourth quarter, with Marine Johannes sinking two of them. The Liberty's uptempo attack proved to be too much for a Fever team on the second leg of a back-to-back, as did a Liberty defense that blocked nine shots and held Indiana to 14 points in the second quarter. During that second quarter, the Liberty unleashed a 19-8 run that put the game out of reach. Clark was ruled out about two hours before Wednesday's game with a right groin injury, which she suffered in the final minute of Tuesday's win over the Connecticut Sun. The 23-year-old Clark underwent imaging Wednesday and is considered day-to-day. The sharp-shooting sensation has missed 11 games this season, having previously sat out with left quad and left groin injuries. The Fever (12-11) struggled Wednesday without Clark, whose elite scoring and play-making — her 8.8 assists per game rank second in the WNBA — command considerable defensive attention and open up Indiana's offense. Indiana shot just 36.8% from the field and 25% from 3-point range. The Liberty enter the All-Star break at 15-6, the second-best record in the WNBA. They trail the Minnesota Lynx (20-4) by 3.5 games for the top seed. Wednesday's win capped a roller-coaster first half for the defending champion Liberty, who jumped out to a franchise-best 9-0 start but have been less consistent since star center Jonquel Jones suffered a right ankle injury. 'There's no pointing fingers. It's taking ownership of what we need to be better [at]. Our culture's strong, and that's what you need,' Liberty coach Sandy Brondello said before Wednesday's game. 'When you face adversity, you're going to [learn] about your team and how you respond to the highs and lows of a normal season. I think we've been very professional in the way that we approach day in and day out. We know there's areas to work on.' The Liberty are 8-1 with Jones in the lineup and 7-5 without her. Jones expects to return when the Liberty open the second half on Tuesday with another game against the Fever at Barclays Center.
