He said MARA had also agreed to offer full scholarships to outstanding students who were pursuing their studies at Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM).
'But I also want to give an opportunity to students who obtained 5A to 10A to be given a place at the university,' he said in his speech before launching the 2025 National Level MARA Education Foundation (YPM) Squad at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Silver Jubilee Hall here today.
Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
The YPM Squad was mobilised as a platform to expand access to quality education to rural and B40 students, while also fostering the values of leadership, volunteerism, entrepreneurship and unity among the younger generation.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, also advised students who are less outstanding in academics to continue their studies in the field of Technical Education and Training and Vocational (TVET) in 1,398 institutions nationwide.
'Although applications for admission to TVET institutions for the July session only opened on April 15, I am very grateful that the number of applications has jumped to 126,000,' said Ahmad Zahid who is also the chairman of the National TVET Council.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said he would be requesting an allocation of more than RM4 billion for MARA's expenses in next year's budget to be presented this October.
He said the allocation was, among other things, to empower the nation's agenda, including to carry out various educational programmes that benefit the young.
Meanwhile, Wan Rosdy said the state government was strengthening its commitment to producing young leaders through the Pahang Lead Programme by approving an allocation of RM2 million for its implementation this year.
He said the programme, which was first introduced in 2024, was a strategic initiative of the Pahang Foundation and the Pahang Education Department, involving more than 261,000 secondary school students throughout the state.
The Pahang state government also channeled RM500,000 for supports education initiatives under YPM.

Palm Oil Exports Remain Elevated At 1.26 Million Tonnes In June
BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's palm oil exports in June 2025 remained higher year-on-year at 1.26 million tonnes, exceeding the 1.21 million tonnes in June 2024, said the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC). For the same month in 2022 and 2023, the palm oil exports stood at 1.19 million tonnes and 1.17 million tonnes respectively, it said in a statement today. 'In the first half of 2025, Kenya ranked as Malaysia's second-largest palm oil buyer, overtaking the EU27 countries by 21,000 tonnes and China by 117,000 tonnes. Kenya accounted for 30 per cent of Malaysia's total palm oil exports to Sub-Saharan Africa, with full-year imports from Malaysia projected to reach 1.3 million tonnes,' the council said. It added that Kenya remained a key growth market, driven by rising domestic consumption, with over 90 per cent of its palm oil imports used in food applications. Meanwhile, the MPOC said the palm oil inventories rose to an 18-month high of 2.03 million tonnes during the same month. Looking ahead, crude palm oil (CPO) prices are expected to stay firm, trading between RM4,100 and RM4,300 per tonne in the coming month, supported by festive demand from India and elevated US soybean oil prices. 'However, any rally in vegetable oil prices may be capped by abundant global oilseed supplies, particularly soybeans, as there is currently no shortage of oilseeds in the market,' it said. Meanwhile, it said global vegetable oil prices have rebounded from early-year losses, led by a 19 per cent surge in soybean oil since January. This outpaced gains in rapeseed oil (6.6 per cent) and palm oil (3.7 per cent), while sunflower oil rose a modest 1.7 per cent. 'Soybean oil remains the top-performing vegetable oil year-to-date, supported by the US biofuel policy announced in mid-June, which is expected to spur demand for domestically produced feedstocks. Strong soybean oil prices have improved the price competitiveness of palm oil,' the council said.

Pineapple industry board backs move to expand exports to New Zealand
JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) has welcomed New Zealand's proposal to boost Malaysian pineapple imports into the country, calling it a strong endorsement of the fruit's quality and export potential. The proposal follows Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's recent official visit to New Zealand, where the New Zealanders expressed keen interest in sourcing more premium Malaysian pineapples, particularly the MD2 variety. LPNM chairman Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali said the board sees the development as a strategic opportunity to widen Malaysia's high-impact export reach in the Asia-Pacific region. "New Zealand's interest reflects global confidence in the quality, safety, and competitiveness of Malaysian pineapples. This momentum must be seized," he said in a statement today. Two export trial studies conducted by LPNM in October last year, and last month, revealed the country's pineapple-based value-added products such as frozen pineapple cubes, dried chunks, pineapple crisps, pineapple-flavoured ice cream, and energy gels, were well accepted by foreigners. The trials also confirmed compliance with New Zealand's food safety and import standards, he said. LPNM is now working with relevant agencies to assess the country's readiness to meet full export requirements for fresh and processed pineapples. To ensure a sustainable supply and meet rising international demand, LPNM has rolled out several key strategies. These include expanding cultivated land with support from state governments. Sheikh Umar said incentives and training would be provided to smallholders and entrepreneurs to boost productivity and participation. The board is also strengthening supply chain management to ensure smooth distribution from farm to market. In addition, LPNM is prioritising strict adherence to quality and food safety standards through certifications such as MyGAP, GLOBALG.A.P., and HACCP. He added inter-agency cooperation to streamline export procedures, including quarantine compliance and facility audits, were also areas that will be further enhanced. In 2024, Malaysia exported 11,633 metric tonnes of fresh pineapples worth RM23.1 million, 30,735 metric tonnes of processed pineapple products, including juice and canned varieties, to over 20 countries such as China, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, and Japan. The country's total export value of pineapple products last year reached RM1.73 billion. "LPNM remains committed to reinforcing Malaysia's competitiveness in the global tropical fruit market through data-driven, tech-focused and sustainable approaches," Sheikh Umar said. He also extended the board's appreciation to Zahid for promoting pineapples on the global stage, expressing confidence that Malaysia can become a leading global supplier of premium tropical pineapples.

While acknowledging that salaries in Malaysia may be lower compared with countries such as New Zealand, he emphasised that their expertise is vital to driving the country's economic growth, Bernama reported. 'I urge you to come home, especially those in engineering, law, and accounting,' he was quoted as saying at a gathering with over 250 Malaysian students and residents in Wellington, New Zealand. Zahid also reminded students not to focus solely on academics during their time abroad. He encouraged them to engage with local communities, noting that social assimilation and cross-cultural understanding are essential for shaping well-rounded Malaysians who are ready to return and serve the nation. Zahid added that understanding the culture of local communities is key to nurturing reputable and globally minded graduates. 'Don't just learn at lecture halls, tutorials, or professors' offices.
