A Relationship Breaks in Two. So Does the Book That Explains Why.
The first thing to know about 'The Möbius Book,' by Catherine Lacey, is that it is actually two books. One is a novella with a hint of murder mystery. Start from the opposite side, flipping upside down — how will this work on a Kindle? — and you'll find the other: a memoir of breakup and friendship during the pandemic, interspersed with musings on religion.
Where will bookstores put this loopy blue thing? Amazon, with unusual resourcefulness, has nested it for now under Self-Help/Relationships/Love & Loss (though I'd wager the author's core audience avoids Amazon).
One has come to expect such formal experiments from Lacey, especially after her bravura 'Biography of X': not a biography of anyone real, but a footnoted, name-dropping, time-melting fourth novel that made many best lists in 2023.
There are plenty of names pelted into 'The Möbius Book,' too — author friends like Heidi Julavits and Sarah Manguso, and many others — but one notably missing in the memoir part is that of Lacey's ex, which gentle Googling reveals is yet another writer, Jesse Ball. Here he is referred to as The Reason: the literary-circle equivalent, maybe, of The Weeknd.
He is the 'reason' why she has become a visitor to, rather than a resident of, the house they bought together, after receiving an email he sent from another room, composed on his phone, telling her he'd met another woman. (At least not a Post-it?) He is also, or so she believed, a pillar of masculine rationality. With tattoos.
The Reason has control and anger issues. He noticed when Lacey, or her memoiristic avatar, put on weight and advised her how to take it off. After they split she found it hard to eat for a time.

Tens of thousands of fans — many in costumes — will descend Thursday on Comic-Con International, the four day pop culture spectacle that will feature updates on the new 'Predator' movie, 'Alien' series and a special appearance by George Lucas. 'Alien: Earth' will be one of the projects that brings a massive interactive experience to San Diego, with a replica of spacecraft from the series. The attraction will feature what's described as a terrifying mission at night. Marvel may not be presenting new movies, but it will have a 'Fantastic Four: First Steps' attraction near the convention, a tie-in to Friday's release of the latest attempt to successfully launch its 'first family' in theaters. Thousands of fans got a sneak peek at the convention's 460,000 square foot (42,700 square meter) exhibitor section, which features exclusive merchandise, comic book art and exhibits from brands like Star Wars, Lego, Nickelodeon, Paramount and more.

Comic-Con Just Gave Us Our First Look at ‘Ahsoka' Season 2
The first season of Ahsoka was about the search for Ezra Bridger. So it's fitting that the very first thing we see from the second season of the show is that character. At the Lucasfilm Pavilion at San Diego Comic-Con, amid a slew of fanfare for the history of Star Wars animation, an image sits alone, with a big smile on its face. It's Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, with a new costume that confirms his look in season two. When last we saw Ezra on Ahsoka, he had miraculously returned from Peridea, the place he blasted to decades later as a way to defeat Grand Admiral Thrawn (at the end of Star Wars Rebels). Returning back to the proper Star Wars galaxy, we saw him reunite with his mother figure, Hera Syndulla, who was as shocked as anyone to have the apprentice of her long-lost loved one back. That, of course, left a lot of questions going into season two. And while this photo doesn't answer many of them, it does answer one. Of course Ezra was going to join up with Hera and the Rebellion. The show he was introduced on, after all, was called Star Wars Rebels. He helped create the group that ended up ultimately defeating Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, at least for a bit. Now we'll get to see how he can help in defeating Grand Admiral Thrawn once and for all. All that from this one still image! Imagine what will happen when we get a first trailer for Ahsoka season two, which is still in production, so it probably won't be out until late 2026. Hopefully, that means we'll get that first glimpse sometime in the next year. For now though, let's just cross our fingers that the second season will be worth the long, long wait. City of Pittsburgh honors Gus and Yiayia's with ceremonial street renaming
It's a Pittsburgh summer tradition that's about more than just flavor on ice. Gus and Yiayia's is a legacy on wheels and a taste of childhood for generations of Pittsburghers. Now, that legacy is officially rooted in Northside history right next to Allegheny Commons Park. "It's very emotional for me today because it's been so many years," said Christina Avlon, daughter of Gus Kalaris. "My family has been here in the park serving ice balls to hundreds and hundreds of loyal customers." It's a business and a legacy that began in 1934 and was passed down through generations. What started as a simple summer treat is now permanently honored as a symbol of Pittsburgh. Gus Kalaris passed away last year at 92. He'd been scooping shaved ice since he was just 8 years old, continuing the family tradition started by his parents. Stella, affectionately known as Yiayia, passed in 2016. Still, their presence lives on in every scoop and every smile. "What an honor for Gus and his wife Stella," said Mike Spanos, manager of the cart. "They put a lot of dedication into this. They were like parents to a lot of people." "His ministry was the people," said Mayor Ed Gainey. "His ministry was the ability to talk to people and let people know just how much he cared about them and then give them an ice ball." The honorary street sign now hangs above the Northside, allowing the community to celebrate a legacy that brought joy with every icy treat. "I know my parents are looking down today and they're happy," Christina said. "They're so happy this happened."
