Saudi project destroys 600 more Houthi landmines and other explosives in Yemen
RIYADH: Members of the Saudi Project for Landmine Clearance, also known as Project Masam, safely detonated 600 mines, unexploded ordnance and other explosive devices on Wednesday.
The project's engineers had demined and removed the devices over the past few months from various parts of Yemen, including the town of Beihan and the districts of Usaylan and Ain in Shabwah governorate.
Hussein Al-Aqili, commander of the project's survey team, said they carried out the destruction operation in the Thahba area of Ain district on Wednesday as part of their ongoing mission to clear mines and other remnants of war in Yemen, and save civilian lives.
The project has cleared nearly 500,000 mines from the country since its work there began in 2018.
Last week, Ousama Algosaibi, the managing director of Masam, warned that the Houthis continue to exploit periods of truce to plant more mines across Yemen.
'We are in a constant race with the Houthi militias; we clear mines from one side while they plant more on the other,' he said during an interview with Al-Ekhbariya TV.

KSrelief distributes 1,100 food baskets in Sudan
NORTH KORDOFAN: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has distributed 1,100 food baskets to displaced families in Sudan's North Kordofan State, benefiting 6,383 individuals. Masam Project clears more than 4,600 explosive devices from Yemen conflict in Abyan
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia's Project for Landmine Clearance, known as Masam and launched by Saudi aid agency KSrelief, has successfully destroyed more than 4,600 explosive devices left behind from the war in Yemen. The operation took place on Thursday in the Wadi Dufs area of Zinjibar, in Abyan Governorate, east of Yemen's de facto capital Aden. The project reported the destruction of 4,620 pieces of ammunition and remnants of war, including 155 projectiles, 235 combat fuses, 85 pieces of armor-piercing ammunition, 4,096 bullets, 13 anti-personnel mines, five anti-tank mines, and 31 grenades. The Masam Project added that its efforts aimed to enhance community security and protect the lives of civilians in Yemen. Engineer Munther Qassem, commander of the first special task force at Masam, said that the operation had been conducted in a safe area, away from residential communities and agricultural regions, ensuring full compliance with international standards. He added: 'The work of the special task teams does not stop throughout the year, given the importance of our missions in protecting the lives of innocent citizens.' Qassem added that the team had successfully carried out the operation despite the high temperatures and rugged terrain of Abyan. The Masam Project stands as a vital contribution to enabling a safe and dignified life for Yemenis. KSrelief has implemented 3,438 diverse humanitarian projects across 107 countries, valued at over $7 billion, since its launch in May 2015.

Saudi aid agency KSrelief delivers dates to Yemen and Syria
RIYADH: The Kingdom's aid agency KSrelief has delivered thousands of cartons of dates to people in Syria and Yemen, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday. The agency distributed 2,677 cartons to households in Syria and 3,120 in Yemen, the SPA report added. These initiatives are a part of Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to support people in the two countries and bolster food security.
