Hornell Fire Department gets new fire truck
The City of Hornell announced on Feb. 13 that the fire department received an E-One Pumper truck the prior week. According to Fire Chief Frank Brzozowski, the new truck, Engine 83, can hold 1,000 gallons of water and pump from hydrant systems, ponds, and other supply areas. Engine 83 is replacing a 2005 engine, and has increased accident protection and technological upgrades. The upgrades include automatic pumps and shifters, which Brzozowski says increase safety and efficiency when fighting fires.
Steuben County farmers can request to join agricultural district
The City of Hornell's Common Council approved the $743,152 pump truck purchase during a November 2024 meeting. It also approved the purchase of a second truck that will arrive in 2026 during the same meeting. The second truck will replace a 1997 pumper. The city says it replaced the department's newer truck first because the 1997 one has better operability.
'We do a great job of maintaining our equipment and keeping it in service, but these vehicles are over 20 years old, and finding parts for repairs is not only difficult but expensive,' said Brzozowski.
The city says the new truck was purchased using reserve funds, unrestricted fund balance, and borrowing. Engine 83 will officially go into service after the department finishes a training process, and training is expected to be completed by the end of the week of Feb. 17.

Cheaper models could help Ford, but 2027 is still a long way out.
