Devon Conway has been omitted from new Black Caps head coach Rob Walter's first squad to play a Twenty20 tri-series against hosts Zimbabwe and South Africa next month.
The veteran batsman is one of several leading players who have turned down central contacts with New Zealand Cricket to play in professional T20 leagues overseas.
Conway last played for New Zealand in June last year, in their last group match at the T20 World Cup.
Former captain Kane Williamson made himself unavailable while playing for Middlesex in England's county championship.
Auckland batter Bevon Jacobs is the only uncapped player in the 15-man squad named by Walter on Friday.
The 23-year-old Jacobs was a member of the New Zealand squad that played against Sri Lanka in December but did not play a game.
Fast bowler Adam Milne has been recalled for the first time since November after performing well in Major League Cricket in the United States.
Batters Finn Allen and Tim Seifert also return to the squad which will be captained by Mitchell Santner. Allen recently hit a world-record 19 sixes in an innings of 151 for the San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket.
"We've got a really strong squad for this tour and I'm looking forward to getting the team together and getting into the work," Walter said.
"We've got some good experience in the side and it's nice to be able to welcome back a few of the players who missed the March series against Pakistan because of the Indian Premier League."

Robson lights up Middlesex with first century of season

Middlesex's Australian-born opener Sam Robson has recorded his first County Championship hundred of the season as his side ended on 5-336 against Division Two table-toppers Leicestershire. Robson, New South Wales born but who has made seven Test appearances for England, hit 133 in an first-wicket stand of 173 with Joshua De Caires (76), while Roman Walker took 3-57 for the home team. Landmark centuries from Keaton Jennings and Australian-South African Chris Green revived Lancashire against Derbyshire at Chesterfield. Jennings passed 12,000 first-class runs on his way to 106 while Green celebrated his maiden red-ball hundred as Lancashire recovered from 6-132 to 367 all out. Gloucestershire's Western Australian captain Cameron Bancroft scored a half-century, along with Zaman Akhter and the unbeaten James Bracey, as their side closed on 7-279 for seven against Glamorgan at Cardiff. Timm van der Gugten trapped Bancroft lbw for 50 and later dismissed Akhter by the same method for 58. Mason Crane chipped in with three wickets. Highlight of the Division One action came at Southampton where Adam Hose made a career-best 266 during a third-wicket stand of 395 with Jake Libby as bottom-of-the-table Worcestershire dominated against Hampshire. Hose smashed 31 fours and seven sixes off 253 deliveries, while stand-in captain Libby passed 10,000 career runs on his way to an unbeaten 137. The Pears, who have won only once all season, reached 3-463 at stumps. Centuries from Dom Sibley and Sam Curran helped reigning champions Surrey take control against Durham. Opener Sibley remained unbeaten on 169 and Curran contributed 108 off 124 balls in a score of 407 for three, with captain Rory Burns having registered 55 at the start of the innings at The Oval. Dan Lawrence will resume alongside Sibley on 58 for the second-placed hosts. Veteran batter omitted from Kiwi coach's first squad
