Singapore reaffirms commitment to Amaravati and A.P. development; Naidu hails move
Mr. Tan See Leng made the announcement via his official social media account, expressing Singapore's interest in working closely with Andhra Pradesh on key projects. He highlighted the State's potential in areas like agriculture, food processing, renewable energy, port development, digital technologies, and skill development. He also noted that Singaporean companies such as Food Empire and EverVolt are already looking to expand their operations in Andhra Pradesh, citing the State's rapid growth and investor-friendly climate.
Master plan
In his statement on Tuesday, Mr. Tan See Leng referenced the earlier collaboration between Singapore and Andhra Pradesh during Mr. Naidu's 2014–2019 term, particularly in shaping Amaravati's master plan. He recalled Singapore's involvement in infrastructure design and development assistance, as well as the successful participation of Singaporean firms through the Swiss Challenge method in bids for the Amaravati Start-up Area project.
However, the Minister also pointed out that after the change in administration in 2019, this collaboration came to a halt. The Singapore consortium eventually withdrew from the Amaravati project due to the lack of support from the previous State government. With the renewed leadership under Mr. Naidu, the Minister expressed hope for revitalised cooperation and confirmed Singapore's willingness to offer technical expertise and collaborate with global institutions like the World Bank on Andhra Pradesh's urban and economic development strategies.
The Chief Minister, in response, extended heartfelt thanks to Mr. Tan See Leng and the Government of Singapore on behalf of the people of Andhra Pradesh. Taking to social media, Mr. Naidu expressed his appreciation for Singapore's continued trust and partnership, calling it a positive and meaningful relationship that has played a vital role in Andhra Pradesh's growth journey. He welcomed Singapore's willingness to re-engage and emphasised that the discussions held during his visit paved the way for deeper collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, renewable energy, digital innovation, and skill development.
'Inspiration for A.P.'
Highlighting the strong bond dating back to the 1990s, the Chief Minister stated that Singapore's development policies have long served as an inspiration for Andhra Pradesh. He acknowledged the difficulties that emerged in the partnership due to past political shifts, but affirmed that with a clear public mandate and a renewed vision for growth, his government is committed to comprehensive development across the State.
Mr. Naidu reiterated that the new coalition government is determined to steer Andhra Pradesh towards its 'Swarnandhra 2047' vision, an inclusive and progressive roadmap for economic and social transformation. He emphasised that with Singapore's cooperation, the State will be better positioned to deliver on public aspirations and build world-class infrastructure and urban ecosystems.
Calling for mutual respect and collaboration, the Chief Minister said that Andhra Pradesh is ready to work hand-in-hand with Singapore across multiple sectors to bring about impactful, long-term development for the people of the State.

Amaravati, Aug 5 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said the state's P4 initiative—Public-Private-People Partnership—aims to eradicate poverty and achieve a 'zero-poverty" goal by 2029. Naidu had launched the 'P4 Margadarsi–Bangaru Kutumbam' programme on March 30 in Amaravati. The initiative encourages affluent individuals to voluntarily support economically weaker families. Under the scheme, donors are termed 'margadarsis' (mentors), and the beneficiaries are referred to as 'bangaru kutumbams' (golden families). The programme envisions the top 10 per cent of society mentoring and supporting the bottom 20 per cent to help lift them out of poverty. 'The P4 initiative will achieve the zero-poverty target by 2029. We've taken the first step and are setting a benchmark for the entire country," Naidu said in a release. Reviewing the poverty alleviation programme with MLAs and officials at the Secretariat, the chief minister announced that P4 will be implemented statewide from August 19. 'Our mission is to raise the standard of living for every family in Andhra Pradesh. Even small acts of support from Margadarsis can bring significant change in the lives of the poor," he said. Naidu cited the example of Pallakunta Hemalatha, a sanitation worker from Avanigadda constituency, who volunteered to support an elderly woman, describing her as a 'guiding light" of the programme. He emphasised that 'bangaru kutumbams' require emotional bonding and consistent support. Stressing that selection of 'margadarsis' should be purely voluntary, the chief minister warned against coercion. 'Only those with compassion and humanity should participate in this effort. Unfortunately, some people are trying to obstruct such good initiatives by spreading negativity," he said. He directed officials to reach out to NRIs and industrialists abroad to inspire them to give back to society. So far, 9.3 lakh beneficiary families and over one lakh donors have been identified under the P4 programme, Naidu said. He added that the needs of 10 lakh 'bangaru kutumbams' have been mapped and prioritised. Based on responses from an 11-question survey and AI-driven analysis, 31 per cent of families were found to need employment, 22 per cent sought medical assistance, and 9 per cent required support to expand small businesses. Naidu also noted that many 'margadarsis' are coming forward to adopt entire villages and mandals. A 'fund a need' option has been added to the P4 platform to support specific requirements, he said. Handloom sector gets a major boost in Andhra Pradesh
In a significant move to support the traditional weaving community, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has announced a series of measures aimed at revitalising the handloom sector. These measures include provision of 200 units of power free of cost to traditional looms and 500 units to powerlooms. The government has also decided to bear the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on handloom textiles. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who chaired a review meeting on Tuesday, outlined several initiatives that would come into effect starting August 7 (National Handloom Day). Mr. Naidu emphasised that after agriculture, the handloom sector was the most critical source of rural employment and deserved focused attention. The Chief Minister recalled a recent interaction he had with a weaver's family during his visit to Jammalamadugu, which brought to his attention the struggles faced by the community. 'As a response, the government has decided to offer 200 units of free electricity for traditional handlooms and 500 units for powerlooms. This move will significantly reduce operational costs for weavers across the State,' Mr. Naidu said. The government also resolved to bear the entire GST on handloom textiles. 'This means, the government will pay the GST directly to the Centre, relieving weavers and handloom sellers of the tax burden,' he said. Officials explained that the measure would help reduce the prices of handloom products, making them more accessible to consumers and increasing sales, which in turn would benefit the weavers. Thrift fund To further support the financial stability of handloom workers, the government would set up a ₹5-crore thrift fund. The fund was aimed at providing long-term social security and financial aid to those engaged in the sector. During the meeting, the officials presented the Chief Minister with details of recent national recognition received by Andhra Pradesh's handloom artisans. The State secured 10 national awards for excellence in handloom production, including its first award under the One District–One Product (ODOP) initiative. The Chief Minister reiterated his government's commitment to the uplift of traditional artisans and fulfil the promises made during the elections.

Andhra Pradesh's flagship 'P4 – Zero Poverty' initiative will be rolled out across the State from August 19, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced, reaffirming his commitment to eradicating poverty by 2029. Describing the programme as a transformative movement that blends welfare with empowerment, Mr. Naidu, while addressing a videoconference on Tuesday, said P4 (Public-Private-People-Partnership) aimed at bringing lasting change through collective community participation. 'It is not about welfare scheme but about ensuring emotional, social, and economic support to the vulnerable families,' Mr. Naidu said, adding that the model would become an example for the rest of the country. Inspiring effort Lauding sanitation worker Pallakunta Hemalatha from Avanigadda for voluntarily supporting a poor elderly woman, Mr. Naidu highlighted how individuals from humble backgrounds were becoming Margadarsis — mentors who guide and uplift Bangaru Kutumbalu (beneficiaries). 'A small gesture can become a mountain of support for the poor,' Mr. Naidu observed, adding that the P4 Mission was not a scheme, but a movement — a people-powered revolution to build a poverty-free, emotionally-bonded society. Reflecting on disaster relief efforts such as during the Uttarakhand floods or Kurnool floods, Mr. Naidu said, 'We served even while in the Opposition. We arranged flights and buses to bring back Telugu people. This spirit must continue with P4.' 'Participation voluntrary' So far, 9.37 lakh families had been identified as beneficiaries and over 1.03 lakh Margadarsis registered voluntarily. 'Needs are being prioritised using AI analysis of survey responses, with focus areas including employment, healthcare, and micro-entrepreneurship,' he said. The Chief Minister stressed that participation was voluntary, and encouraged NRIs, industrialists, and well-wishers to join the movement. 'P4 is about people becoming partners of change,' he said, revealing that he adopted 250 families. 'This is not a scheme, this is a mission of humanity,' he said.
