Morocco Launches Housing Campaign for Moroccans Residing Abroad

Morocco World4 hours ago
Rabat — Morocco's Ministry of National Territory Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy has launched a special campaign for Moroccans living abroad as part of the 'Marhaba 2025' operation.
To implement the initiative, the ministry specified that it launched a mobile outreach caravan on August 2 in Tangier.
Held under the theme 'Urban Planning and Housing at the Service of Moroccans Worldwide,' the caravan is scheduled to land in 10 cities across Morocco's regions until August 31.
Royal directives drive initiative
The ministry noted that rolling out this national campaign program for 2025 is in line with King Mohammed VI's directives and his special care for Moroccan diaspora members.
The campaign follows circular number 7049 that Minister Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri sent to Al Omran Group, urban agencies, and regional and provincial directorates under the ministry.
The directive calls for active participation in bringing services closer to citizens and strengthening trust and communication for Moroccans living abroad.
Strategic vision centers citizens
Ministry officials pointed out that this initiative reflects a strategic vision that places citizens — both inside and outside the country — at the heart of the ministry's focus.
The initiative is designed to provide field support and information that allows diaspora members to learn about the missions of the ministry and its programs aimed at providing decent housing, particularly the Direct Housing Support Program.
Practical measures improve services
The campaign includes several practical measures to improve reception quality and deliver effective public service.
Not only did the ministry create reception and guidance spaces at all central and decentralized services and institutions under its authority, but it has also dedicated special windows inside commercial agencies of Al Omran companies and set up reception units at urban agencies and border crossings.
Additionally, the ministry is set to organize open days to share insights on its programs, missions, and services, as well as providing detailed explanations about real estate offers related to housing or investment.
Digital access and simplified procedures
The ministry is adopting a digital aspect as part of its campaign, in order to facilitate diaspora members' access to urban planning data through digital platforms and direct communication.
It also simplifies procedures and ensures special support for investment or housing files concerning this category of citizens. Tags: Housinghousing aid programhousing in MoroccoMoroccan MREs

Ministry launches campaign to support Moroccans living abroad with urbanism and housing initiative

The Ministry of National Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing, and City Policy has launched a campaign targeting Moroccans living abroad (MREs), under the theme «Urbanism and Housing in the Service of Moroccans Worldwide», as part of its contribution to the Marhaba 2025 operation. As part of this initiative, a mobile outreach caravan was launched on Saturday from Tangier and will travel through 10 cities across various regions of Morocco until August 31, 2025, the ministry announced in a statement. A key focus of the campaign is the Daam Sakane housing assistance program, which aims to help citizens access decent housing. To better serve MREs, the ministry has rolled out several concrete measures across all 12 regions of the country to improve reception conditions and enhance the quality of public services. These include the creation of dedicated reception and advisory areas in all central and regional branches of the ministry, the establishment of one-stop shops within Al Omrane's commercial agencies, reception units at Urban Agencies and border entry points, and the organization of open house events. The ministry is also working to make urban planning information more accessible—via digital platforms such as the Taamir geoportal and through direct communication—by streamlining procedures and ensuring close follow-up of housing and investment-related applications.

Spain Denies Removing Flag from Islands Near Morocco

Rabat – Reports that Spain removed its national flag from two small islets near the Moroccan coast are not accurateare not accurate, according to Spanish fact-checking platform Newtral. The platform contacted the Ministry of Defense, which said the reports were 'incorrect,' adding that 'there have been no flags with raised cloth or metal poles on these islands for more than twenty years.' Several news websites, including Spanish outlets, reported that Spain had quietly taken down its flag from El Bar and El Bahar, two uninhabited islands just off the Mediterranean coast near Al Hoceima, Morocco. Some called it an 'unexpected move' and suggested it was a sign of Spain stepping back from the disputed territories. The ministry clarified that instead of traditional flags, Spain uses metal structures painted in red and yellow, the colors of the Spanish flag. These are fixed on raised concrete platforms and serve as markers of Spanish presence. The ministry explained that weather and exposure to the sea may sometimes fade the paint, making the colors hard to see, but there has been no change in policy or removal of symbols. The original claims speculated about a possible political shift, recalling past tensions such as the 2002 standoff over nearby Perejil Island. But Spain's official response shuts down these rumors. The Ministry of Defense confirmed there has been no official action or change to the status of the islands. Despite improved relations between Morocco and Spain in recent years, disputed territories along the Mediterranean coast remain a sensitive issue. These territories include several small islets and enclaves such as Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera, Peñón de Alhucemas, and the Chafarinas Islands, located just meters from Morocco's northern coastline. Though these rocky outcrops are uninhabited and of limited economic value, they are highly symbolic. Spain has retained control over them since the 19th century and considers them integral parts of its national territory. However, many Moroccans view these remnants of colonial rule as anachronistic and assert that they should be returned to Moroccan sovereignty. Tags: flagislandsMoroccoSpain
