Baker County Sheriff's Office searching for missing woman with schizophrenia
57-year-old Cynthia Diane Padgett, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, does not have her medication with her. A Purple Alert has been issued.
She is listed as being 5′4″.

Padgett was last seen leaving her home on Tommy Road in red and black checkered pajama pants and a gray t-shirt. BCSO says she left in a white 2013 Ford Fiesta with the Florida tag IFTP94.
Her father told deputies she had called him while still in Baker County, and claimed to be going to Lake City. Her car may be in Union, Columbia, or Baker counties.

Metropolitan Detention Center reports 6th inmate death this year
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) has confirmed the death of another inmate on Wednesday. Thomas Acee II died while in custody at MDC. Acee has previously made headlines for various crimes, including a significant incident in 2021 when he was accused of shooting at the newly completed Alvarado Square building in downtown Albuquerque. This shooting forced the building to close for ten days for repairs, and at that time, Acee was already wanted for other offenses. Jury unable to reach verdict in Albuquerque murder trial Just last year, Acee faced allegations in the murder of a 13-year-old during a drive-by shooting in downtown Albuquerque. He was being housed at MDC. Jail officials reported that around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Acee was found unresponsive. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead. The Office of the Medical Investigator and the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office are currently investigating Acee's death. Former deputy sentenced to 16 months in prison for 2022 beating of inmate in Camden County Jail
A former Camden County Sheriff's Office deputy sheriff and jail corporal has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for assaulting a pretrial detainee in 2022. Ryan Robert Biegel, now 27, of Kingsland, Georgia, pleaded guilty on Jan. 28 to using unreasonable force against the detainee, according to a news release from the Department of Justice. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< Action News Jax first told you in November 2022 about the release of a video showing the September 2022 beating of Jarrett Hobbs from Greensboro, North Carolina, in the Camden County Jail. The DOJ said the incident occurred on September 3, 2022, when Biegel and two other correctional officers entered the holding cell where Hobbs was detained. [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] We also told you in November 2022 when Biegel, Mason Garrick, and Braxton Massey were charged with battery of an inmate and violating the oath of office. In May 2023, the three men were indicted by a grand jury in Camden County. The DOJ said Biegel admitted to punching Hobbs five times in the back of the head, acknowledging that it was not reasonable or necessary for a legitimate law enforcement purpose. Biegel further struck Hobbs in the head and body an additional twenty-two times with his fists and knees, the DOJ said. 'Devoted' Mother Dies Trying to Save Her Drowning Son at North Carolina Beach: 'Act of Profound Heroism'
NEED TO KNOW A "devoted" mother died while trying to save her drowning son The bodies of Shaunna Jernigan, 35, and her 14-year-old son, Timothy Jernigan, were recovered after the drowning incident at Bertie Beach in North Carolina on July 9 Shaunna's 11-year-old daughter was rescued from the water during the tragic incidentA woman, described by her family as a "devoted mother" and "compassionate friend," died while trying to save her drowning son. The bodies of Shaunna Jernigan, 35, and her 14-year-old son, Timothy Jernigan, were recovered after a drowning incident at Bertie Beach in North Carolina on July 9, according to a statement from the Bertie County Sheriff's Office (BCSO). Officials responded to a report of someone drowning at 5:41 p.m. local time. Upon arrival, first responders discovered that the mother-and-son pair were drowning, the statement said. Shaunna's 11-year-old daughter was rescued from the water during the incident. The victims were about 150 yards from the shore. "Life-saving measures were done on the mother and son, but unfortunately, they didn't survive," officials said. The 11-year-old girl claimed in an initial statement to officers that she and her mother were floating on an inflatable while her brother was swimming. She said Timothy "could no longer feel the bottom of the beach and became distressed." Shaunna then entered the water to rescue her teenage son and "also became distressed," the girl added. "Our community mourns with the family and friends of the victims," the sheriff's office said. "The family, friends, our community and first responders need your prayers during this difficult time. Resources have been made available to the family and first responders." Shaunna was described as "a devoted mother, compassionate friend and cherished member of her community" in her obituary. "Shaunna's tragic demise came during an act of profound heroism, as she attempted to save her beloved son, Lil Tim, from drowning. They are now reunited in eternal peace," the obituary read. Shaunna, who worked as a first responder with Bertie County EMS, is survived by two children, her husband, and her mother and sister. Timothy, nicknamed Lil Tim, was an incoming freshman at Bertie High School, according to his obituary.
