Antiques Road Trip expert 'hits rival' in tense auction clash as profits soar
Antiques Road Trip stars James Braxton and Raj Bisram were in fierce competition during a memorable episode, which saw them journeying separately throughout Somerset before a heated auction kicked off in Woking. While James became one with the Morris Men, Raj braved life in a tank, only to meet later for a showdown with their quirky finds.
The treasure hunt had them almost on par by the halfway mark, but James placed his bets on some slightly damaged Staffordshire figures, whereas Raj hoped for a win with his unique Moorcroft vase. The true game-changer was James revealing to a stunned Raj a Sir William Russell Flint print he'd cleverly bagged for just £8 - a piece adorned with the artist's signature.
"I think James has done extremely well. He bought a Sir William Russell Flint print - signed - £8!" remarked an impressed Raj, unable to hide his shock at the low price: "£8? I can't believe it!"
Excitement peaked at the auction as bids flew in both online and from the floor, culminating with the print going under the hammer for an impressive £150, leaving James over the moon with his lucrative find.
James was positively buzzing after the auction delivered a smashing result, beaming as he declared: "Top estimate! £150. Put it there Raj. Come on," reports the Express.
Raj, just as chuffed with how things turned out, gleefully agreed to a celebratory handshake, saying: "Top estimate. That is a good profit. That's worth a shake of the hand. Well done, well done James."
In high spirits, Raj playfully tapped an elated James on the head with his papers in a fun show of camaraderie.
The host, Tim Wonnacott, couldn't hold back his delight, laughing as he said: "Yes, that's a great result for print and it's profits all round."
In another episode of the BBC show, Christina Trevanion and Mark Stacey were left astounded when a humble vegetable barrow they snapped up for a mere £10 transformed into a treasure at auction, commanding an unexpectedly high price.
Renowned for their prowess in the world of collectables, the duo watched in disbelief as the bids for what was nearly dismissed as mere firewood skyrocketed during a frenzied bidding session among eager collectors.
At the peak of the excitement, a shell-shocked Mark couldn't help exclaiming: "Good Lord. Why?" while Christina, equally puzzled, replied, "I have no idea."
As the numbers soared higher, Mark could only jest: "Can I go home now?" but Christina, basking in the success of her find, quickly responded: "No! Stay here and hold my hand!" The sale of the vegetable barrow concluded at an impressive £130.

Has Jay Blades left The Repair Shop? TV presenter's absence explained
Jay Blades began fronting The Repair Shop upon its inception in 2017 but stepped back from filming the BBC One hit show last year amid a number of personal issues Jay Blades has been the face of The Repair Shop since it began in 2017 - however, those tuning into the show may be confused as to why the TV presenter is missing and when he stepped back from the show. The TV presenter appeared in court today via video link on a controlling or coercive behaviour charge shortly, which he denies, after being charged with two counts of rape. Jay Blades initially quit social media in April last year after the murder of his uncle. He wrote on Instagram: "I've just been to my uncle's funeral, he was murdered a few weeks ago. Really, super nice guy, shouldn't have happened to him, but it really affected me. "So what I'm intending on doing is this... I'm coming off social media for a bit, and I'll be back in a bit. Going to go and get some therapy and just chill out." Shortly afterwards in May 2024, it was reported that Blades was taking a break from TV following the breakdown of his marriage and his uncle's shock murder, with the BBC show "carrying on without him". It came after the TV star's wife of 18 months, fitness influencer Lisa-Marie Zbozen, announced that she was leaving him. A source told The Sun at the time: "Jay has taken a step back and is having a break from filming The Repair Shop. His uncle's murder in March and the breakdown of his marriage means he has decided to take some time out. "The Repair Shop is carrying on without him for now and the other repairers are hard at work. People who worked with Jay said they were shocked to hear his marriage to Lisa has ended. It was not well known at all among the people who work on the show." Blades last appeared on The Repair Shop in episodes of the show's 13th series, having appeared in episode 11 back in September. The BBC is yet to confirm whether Blades will return to the show. While Blades was previously the show's foreman, that role is now shared between experts Will Kirk and Dominic Chinea. The Mirror has reached out to the BBC for comment. On Tuesday, Blades appeared at Worcester Crown Court via video link for a preliminary hearing in relation to the controlling or coercive behaviour charge. Blades, who wore animal-print spectacles, a grey suit and a blue polka-dot tie, spoke only to confirm his name during a short hearing. The TV star denied engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour towards his estranged wife Lisa-Marie Zbozen between January 1 2023 and September 12 last year and he will face a trial at a later date. He is due to appear at Telford Magistrates' Court on 13 August 2025.' Prior to that, West Mercia Police confirmed charges against the 55-year-old presenter, who stepped back from hosting The Repair Shop last year, and said that a magistrates' court date is set for Wednesday 13 August. "Jason Blades, 55, of Claverley in Shropshire, has been charged with two counts of rape," a spokesperson for the force told The Mirror. "He is due to appear at Telford magistrates' court on 13 August 2025." Blades, who was awarded an MBE in the 2021 Birthday Honours for his services to crafts has three children; a daughter from his first marriage and two sons from previous relationships. The TV star is best known for presenting The Repair Shop, Money for Nothing and Jay Blades' Home Fix, and co-presenting Jay and Dom's Home Fix. He has also fronted features with Sir David Jason and Dame Judi Dench. He was said to have signed up to new ITV show Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters before his arrest. However, the show was reportedly thrown into chaos after allegations emerged with bosses taking swift action to remove Blades. 'Attracting a popular BBC star to be in the new ITV series was a big win for bosses," a source told the Sun. 'But as soon as Jay Blades was arrested in March 2024, they knew they had to make a quick decision about the future of the show. 'He was given the boot. Producers got lucky as they hadn't started filming or doing any promotion yet so were able to replace him with someone else." In October 2022 the dad-of-three was the lead presenter for a special edition of the BBC series featuring the newly crowned King Charles. He then worked on a 15-part restoration series with Only Fools and Horses star Sir David Jason.

Richard Osman 'rejected' role in Netflix's Wednesday and hints who he would have played
The Thursday Murder Club author Richard Osman has made a surprising revelation about his connection to Netflix's Wednesday. Richard Osman has disclosed that he was invited to audition for Netflix series Wednesday, dropping hints about the character he might have portrayed. Three years have passed since Wednesday became a worldwide sensation on Netflix, with Jenna Ortega breathing new life into the wickedly amusing character of Wednesday Addams. The second series is now poised to launch with the opening four episodes arriving tomorrow, Wednesday, August 6, and anticipation for the fresh season has hit fever pitch. The Netflix smash hit featured amongst the subjects Richard Osman discussed with co-presenter Marina Hyde on his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment, where he stunned both Hyde and audiences with a surprising revelation. During the closing moments of the episode, Osman disclosed: "They asked me to audition for a role in Wednesday. I couldn't do it. "But I assume because of my height and, I assume because it's the Addams Family, I assume there's some sort of tallness in it." Recognised for his BBC smash series Pointless alongside Alexander Armstrong and numerous other quiz programmes, Osman is instantly identifiable due to his towering frame, as he measures an impressive 6ft 7in tall. Whilst the 54-year-old didn't reveal which character he was meant to audition for in Wednesday, given the role's physical requirements, it's thought Osman could have portrayed the Addams family's manservant Lurch. The role of the silent henchman, originally played by 6ft 3 actor George Burcea in Wednesday season one, has been taken over by former basketball player Joonas Suotamo, who towers at an impressive 6ft 11. Hyde was shocked by Osman's revelation, exclaiming: "Oh my God! Sorry, no, I did not know that and I cannot believe you didn't do it!" He went on to say: "I can't remember why I couldn't do it...I'm not an actor in any way whatsoever, not interested in being an actor. "But the biggest show in the world, you're like 'maybe', I just thought 'for the podcast'. "Do everything for the podcast!" Hyde chuckled, adding: "It'll be fun if I was in that for the podcast." Meanwhile, Osman has been occupied with his novel The Thursday Murder Club, which has been adapted into a Netflix film featuring Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie. Osman, who is an executive producer on The Thursday Murder Club, will see his project debut on Thursday, August 28.
