China's military vows to enhance combat readiness after Taiwan president speeches
The People's Liberation Army 'shows zero tolerance to Taiwan independence separatist Activities,' a Chinese defense ministry spokesperson said on Thursday when asked about recent speeches made by Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te.
The PLA will enhance combat readiness to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang told a regular press conference.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, on Saturday hailed the presence of cadets from Arab and allied countries at a Naval Academy graduation ceremony, saying it reflected the high standard of training the country offers to its military partners. 'The presence of cadets from Bahrain, Iraq, the State of Palestine, the Republic of Djibouti and the Republic of Türkiye in today's commissioning parade is a reflection of the Academy's high training standards,' he added. Pakistan regularly trains cadets and officers from partner nations and sends its own officers abroad to institutions in countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom for advanced military education and joint training. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from Pakistan and other countries, government representatives and families of the graduating cadets. In his remarks, the army chief also praised the Navy's professionalism and its efforts as a regional maritime force committed to securing international sea lines of communication. He also referenced the recent standoff with India, saying the country's armed forces had 'responded swiftly and decisively against a numerically superior enemy,' and were fully prepared to defend Pakistan's sovereignty.

Two US lawmakers on Friday asked the Commerce Department to investigate whether devices sold by Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus in the United States pose security concerns, according to a letter seen by Reuters. Why it matters Representative John Moolenaar, a Republican who chairs a House of Representatives committee on China, and the panel's top Democrat, Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi, noted that major U.S. retailers sell OnePlus devices for use on two U.S. wireless networks. The lawmakers said a recent analysis by a commercial company provided to the committee indicates that these devices may potentially collect and transmit extensive user data -- including sensitive personal information to servers under Chinese jurisdiction without explicit user consent. Shenzhen-based OnePlus did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The U.S. Commerce Department also did not immediately comment. Context BestBuy and both sell OnePlus phones for U.S. consumers, which operate on the Verizon and T-Mobile networks, the committee said. The lawmakers asked the department to task its Information and Communications Technology and Services program with investigating OnePlus phones, including to determine user data types collected by OnePlus devices without explicit user consent 'including potential transfers of sensitive personal information and screenshots.' Washington in recent years has cracked down on Chinese telecoms, revoking the authorization for China Telecom's US subsidiary and others to operate in the United States, citing national security concerns. The Federal Communications Commission in November 2022 banned approvals of new telecommunications equipment from Huawei and ZTE as well as telecom and video surveillance equipment from Hytera Communications, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Zhejiang Dahua Technology Co.

US President Trump says he will ‘get the conflict solved with North Korea'
US President Donald Trump on Friday said he will 'get the conflict solved with North Korea.' At an Oval Office event where he highlighted his efforts to resolve global conflicts, Trump was asked whether he had written a letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, as was reported this month. Trump did not directly answer the question, but said: 'I've had a good relationship with Kim Jong Un and get along with him, really great. So we'll see what happens. 'Somebody's saying there's a potential conflict, I think we'll work it out,' Trump said. 'If there is, it wouldn't involve us.' Seoul-based NK News, a website that monitors North Korea, reported this month that North Korea's delegation at the United Nations in New York had repeatedly refused to accept a letter from Trump to Kim. Trump and Kim held three summits during Trump's 2017-2021 first term and exchanged a number of letters that Trump called 'beautiful,' before the unprecedented diplomatic effort broke down over US demands that Kim give up his nuclear weapons. In his second term Trump has acknowledged that North Korea is a 'nuclear power.' The White House said on June 11 that Trump would welcome communications again with Kim, while not confirming that any letter was sent. North Korea has shown no interest in returning to talks since the breakdown of Trump's diplomacy in 2019. It has, instead, significantly expanded its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs, and developed close ties with Russia through direct support for Moscow's war in Ukraine, to which Pyongyang has provided both troops and weaponry.
