Tom Walter responds to viral incident during NCAA game
On Monday, June 3, 2025, during an NCAA regional baseball game between Wake Forest and Tennessee, a camera picked up what sounded like an anti-gay slur. The words were reportedly spoken by Wake Forest head coach Tom Walter. The game took place in Knoxville, Tennessee, and was broadcast live.
The footage quickly spread online. Many fans and viewers expressed concern over the language. The clip gained attention just hours after Tennessee defeated Wake Forest 11-5. Tennessee qualified for the Super Regional round, where they will play Arkansas, by winning.
Wake Forest University made a statement from Coach Walter the next day, June 4. He took total accountability in it.
'I am very sorry for my outburst in frustration last night and I recognize the hurt and disappointment it has caused,' Walter said.
He added, 'I own the consequences and I apologize to the University of Tennessee, to Wake Forest University, and the SEC & ACC.'
He admitted he did not clearly remember the moment but watched the clip afterward. 'That language doesn't reflect my values or the standards of this program,' Walter explained.

'I feel badly for those most hurt by such words,' Currie said. 'This incident is completely out of character for him and does not meet the standards of Wake Forest Athletics, Wake Forest University, or the Atlantic Coast Conference.'
The Associated Press confirmed the details of the event. As of now, the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has not issued a public comment.
The NCAA has also not released a statement about the matter. Wake Forest has not announced any disciplinary actions at this time. The story continues to develop as the college baseball tournament moves forward.

DB Boo Carter with Vols but work to do before hitting field for Tennessee, coach says
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee coach Josh Heupel said Tuesday that sophomore defensive back Boo Carter is with the Volunteers as they start preseason practice. HT Image When Carter gets back on the field, however, remains to be seen after he reportedly missed workouts this summer. Heupel declined to get into details. 'Boo is a part of our team here,' Heupel said. 'There's some things that he's got to accomplish to get back on the field with us. Don't have a set timeline on that. Our leadership council has been a part of those things, those discussions with me and with Boo.' Heupel said he's proud of the leadership council. The head coach said he'll be the one handling all questions on Carter early in camp. Whether Carter would show for practice was a question amid reports about his conduct. Tennessee parted with quarterback Nico Iamaleava just before the spring game in April. Heupel said then that nobody was 'bigger than the Power T.' Carter made the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team for his play in 13 games, with five starts last season. He ranked sixth on the defense with 38 tackles, including 28 solo. He also led the SEC averaging 16.5 yards per punt return. Tennessee gave him work in the slot at wide receiver during spring practice, allowing Carter a chance to follow in the two-way footsteps of Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. The Vols need Carter with cornerback Jermod McCoy recovering from an ACL injured early this year. The Vols start practice Wednesday needing a new starting quarterback with Iamaleava now at UCLA. Transfer Joey Aguilar, Jake Merklinger and freshman George MacIntyre all will be competing for the job for a program that made the College Football Playoff only to be routed by eventual champion Ohio State. Tennessee opens the season Aug. 30 in Atlanta against Syracuse. Offensive coordinator Joey Halzle said they are looking for a quarterback who can run the offense, not just throw the ball hardest or farthest. 'It's about who can operate this offense that when we take the field gives us a chance to win,' Halzle said. ___ AP college football: and

However, Walter made it clear that the 33-year-old is still very much part of the national side's future and Kane have had a nice conversation, a long conversation," Walter told the New Zealand Herald. "It was really great to catch up with him and discuss cricket. It was great to get his view on New Zealand cricket and the Black Caps. He's been so influential in their success over the years. But then also to discuss what the future might look like." Walter, who recently replaced Gary Stead as head coach, added: "I've said it repeatedly, he's still very committed to the Black Caps and wants to play international cricket. I don't think it'll be too long until we see that."Williamson declined a central contract with New Zealand Cricket for the second year in a row in June 2025. This gives him more freedom to take part in franchise leagues around the world while still making himself available for key international not holding a full-time contract, Williamson signed a casual deal last year and featured in nine of New Zealand's 13 Test matches in 2024. He scored over 1,000 runs during that period, showing he remains one of the team's most reliable the Zimbabwe tour, New Zealand will play a T20I series against Australia and two limited-overs series against England in October. They will then host the West Indies in all formats at the end of the stepped down as New Zealand's white-ball captain after the Black Caps' exit from the T20 World Cup in June 2024, but also played in the Champions Trophy earlier in 2024. His future in the shorter formats remains uncertain, but Walter believes the door is always open for a player of his quality."Quality players stay quality players, and they just work at finding a method to be successful in all formats," Walter said. "He's a generational talent, I've got no doubt he'd find a way. He's probably working through what that actually looks like for him personally. But as I said, quality players find a way."- EndsYou May Also Like
