Delhi HC seeks NIA's response on Er Rashid's interim bail Plea
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday sought a response from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on a plea by jailed Lok Sabha MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid seeking interim bail to attend the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament. Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid and in jail in a 2017 terror funding case, has also challenged a trial court order asking him to bear travel expenses of Rs 1.44 lakh per day for attending Parliament in custody from July 24 to August 4. A bench of Justices Vivek Chaudhary and Shalinder Kaur issued notice to the NIA on the plea and listed the matter for further hearing on July court is also scheduled to hear on July 29 Rashid's regular bail plea in the case. The Baramulla MP has been lodged in Tihar jail since 2019 after he was arrested by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the case. During the brief hearing, Rashid's counsel submitted that the MP has already been saddled with Rs 17 lakh cost to represent the public at large in Parliament. Rashid sought interim bail or custody parole with travel expenses to carry out his duty as a parliamentarian. NIA court declares Hizb chief Syed Salahuddin proclaimed offender under UAPA
An NIA court here on Friday declared Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen chief Mohammad Yousuf Shah alias Syed Salahuddin a proclaimed offender under the UAP Act. Srinagar Police has appealed to the public for any information on the whereabouts of Salahuddin(HT/File) The special designated court under NIA Act, Srinagar, issued a proclamation requiring the appearance of Shah, a resident of Soibugh, Badgam, in connection with serious charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Ranbir Penal Code. According to court records, a challan was filed alleging that the accused has committed offences punishable under Sections 13 and 18 of the UA(P) Act and Section 505 of the RPC in Zakura police station. Despite a warrant being issued for his arrest, law enforcement authorities have reported that Salahuddin could not be found and is believed to have absconded or is deliberately concealing his whereabouts to evade arrest. In light of these circumstances, the court declared Salahuddin as absconding and issued a proclamation requiring his appearance before the court on or before August 30, to answer the charges framed against him. Failure to appear may lead to further legal action, including proceedings under Section 82/83 of the Code of Criminal Procedure pertaining to the attachment of property of an absconder. Srinagar Police has appealed to the public for any information on the whereabouts of Salahuddin and urged cooperation in the interest of justice and public safety.

A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Friday (July 25, 2025) issued a proclamation against Hizbul Mujahideen chief and United Jihad Council supremo Mohammad Yousuf Shah alias Syed Salahuddin in an Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act case. The special designated court issued a proclamation requiring the appearance of Salahuddin, a resident of Soibugh, Budgam, in connection with 'serious charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC)'. The NIA said a challan has been filed alleging that the accused has committed offences punishable under Sections 13 and 18 of the Act, and Section 505 of the RPC. 'Despite a warrant being issued for his arrest, law enforcement authorities have reported that the accused could not be found and is believed to have absconded or is deliberately concealing his whereabouts to evade arrest,' the NIA said.
