Kay Kay Menon's portrayal of Himmat Singh has been a standout role, and Tahir Raj Bhasin knew that sharing screen space with him came with great responsibility.
Neeraj Pandey's acclaimed espionage thriller Special Ops has returned with a brand-new season, and this time, the stakes are higher than ever. Streaming now on JioHotstar, Special Ops 2 sees Kay Kay Menon reprising his iconic role as Himmat Singh. This time, Tahir Raj Bhasin joins him as the antagonist Sudheer Awasthi, also known as The Collector.
While the buzz around the show is strong, stepping into a franchise that has already delivered successful seasons like Special Ops 1 and 1.5: The Himmat Story wasn't an easy decision for Tahir. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about what pushed him to take on the challenge, his admiration for Neeraj Pandey's storytelling, and facing off against an actor of Kay Kay Menon's calibre.
With a high-octane series already adored by fans, Tahir knew the expectations were sky-high. But instead of shying away, he leaned into the challenge.
Speaking to The Times Of India, the actor shared, 'If I had to pick between taking up something where there is a huge audience expectation for a show that has been hugely successful (likeSpecial Ops) or joining something which has zero audience interest then I would always pick the former because it's great as an actor to be a part of a project where there is anticipation and expectation."
He shared that he loves to take on challenges. Tahir said, 'I always prefer being part of a project where there is a bit of pressure and uncertainty of whether it's going to be as big as the previous one."
Tahir Raj Bhasin's Experience of Joining Neeraj Pandey's Show
Tahir recalled being a fan of the show before becoming part of it. He shared, 'I recollect being amazed at the fact that they have achieved this level of skill. Never in my wildest dreams I thought that I would get a call from Neeraj Pandey's office saying that they wanted to cast me in Season 2."
Tahir Raj Bhasin On Being Opposite Kay Kay Menon
Kay Kay Menon's portrayal of Himmat Singh has been a standout in the Indian OTT space, and Tahir knew that sharing screen space with him came with great responsibility.
Tahir shared, 'Going head-to-head with Kay Kay is a responsibility to shoulder and huge compliment as well. And then as we discussed there's something to deal with which is the Season 2 curse here if Season 1 does really well, normally Season 2 doesn't. I am glad that this season turned out to be much better."
Special Ops 2 Plot
In its latest outing, Special Ops 2 shifts the threat from terrorism to artificial intelligence (AI). The story follows Himmat Singh and his team of secret agents as they face a new kind of danger, driven by technology and data. Tahir's character, Sudheer Awasthi, plays a key role in the conflict as a respected scientist with access to highly sensitive national intelligence.
Alongside Kay Kay Menon and Tahir Raj Bhasin, the new season also features Prakash Raj, Karan Tacker, Vinay Pathak, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Saiyami Kher, Muzammil Ibrahim, Gautami Kapoor, Revathi Pillai, and Kamakshi Bhatt, in other pivotal roles.
